Eric Decosta just made a huge move sending a 2021 3rd round choice and a conditional 5th from 2022 for Yannick. He has 5 sacks with the vikings this season and should take over the rush end on our defense. Loving this move
Looks like a steal for Baltimore. Gotta be infuriating for most teams in the league - not sure why the price / demand wasn't higher. Thank you for getting him out of the NFC North without ever having played Chicago. It's a beautiful thing.
Definitely an interesting trade. Pass rush is the defenses weakness. A 3rd and a 5th suggests, to me anyway, that they also try and sign him long term, especially since he's only 25. Of course if someone else breaks the bank we'll likely net a 3rd so it would end up a 5th for half a season. If he gets us over the hump it'll be great EDIT: Just read that the 5th is 2022
I love this move and was a proponent of getting him earlier when he was available from Jax. In my eyes, this makes the move clearly "which guy balls out and gets the big deal from the Ravens". It puts the pressure on Judon to step it up and start playing better and it allows Ngakoue to play for a contender and see what he can do. I see no real downside for the Ravens considering they gave a 3rd in essence next year and a 5th 2 years from now so not a ton of capital to give to get a really, really good player that fits an area of need. Now we can pick which player fits better and offer a long term deal there and the other will likely get a nice deal somewhere else and the Ravens get a comp pick in return so this is going to be close to a free deal pick wise.....(aside from cash) I love it!
Calias Campbell also wins with this trade. He's been llaying very, very, well the last few weeks while still seeing double teams. Can teams afford to double him now and leave Ngakoue in 1v1 on passing situations? Do they double both by adding an extra blocker and hope their receivers win against what should be a lot of defenders in coverage? The Steelers game will be even more interesting
This makes you appreciate the foresight that Ozzie and Bisciotti had in paying and keeping DeCosta all those years to groom him for this role. It was truly worth it for the expertise and continuity of the front office brilliance.
Teapot didn’t even have the GM title for a whole year though. Spielman is in Year 9 and just got less in return for a premium asset than what he gave up to acquire it less than 2 months ago. Also, Kirk Cousins is making $28MM per guaranteed.
Ozzie was a stud and looks like DeCosta learned well. What’s Ozzie up to these days anyway? He’s 5 years younger than Belichick. Teams should be banging on his door waving fistfuls of cash to get him out of retirement.
