What's the most noteworthy sports moment you saw in person?

As most are aware, Brett Favre started 297 games in a row. I was present for Brett's first NFL start. Sadly, it was a defeat of the Steelers: 17-3.

I was there for the 2002 Miami v FSU game. I guess it's only particularly notable to fans of the rivalry. NCAA, I know, but... It's all I got.

Was that the "wide right" game?

Wife Left. Wide Right happened three times, then Wide Left. That was the year Miami went on to be robbed of a National Championship. Growing up in South Florida, that rivalry was insane. Being in the Orange Bowl (RIP) for that game was incredible, just as an experience. But I recognize it's not a particularly historical game, in the larger context.

Nice. Otto Graham needs more recognition as one of the greatest.

Gale Sayers 6 touchdown game versus the 49ers. I was 10.

Michael Jordan's first game. His last game as a Bull in regular season. Game 6 of the Finals against Utah when he hit his last shot in a Bulls uniform. And his last game as a Wizard.

    Tom Glavine's 300th win. Greg Maddux's 3000th strikeout.

Milt Pappas's no hitter that should have been a perfect game. Kerry Wood's 20 K game. I was also at Kerry Wood's last game. There were tears all over Wrigley when he got pulled.

Bobby Hull's 51st goal in 1966. Saw the Hawks raise the Cup twice in person.

Nothing will ever beat being in the Superdome seeing the Bears win the big one though.

WOW..........what an Honour that must have been....and were you a teenager ???.....Earl Campbell was my ALL time favourite NFLer....

    Jim Brown was my 2nd.

Sporting event for me was Olympic Hockey in February 2010.....Canada vs the USA Pre Round.......USA won 5-3 and Ryan Kesler (US) scored a Goal.

Olympic Hockey is incredible......the Atmosphere the Crowd.......their was people from Germany watching the game and were cheering for the USA.

It was really friendly and respectful.........it was the Rival USA and then they met again for the Gold Medal......an impossible ticket to buy.

Not quite. I was 9 years old.

My father played semi-pro football (and basketball) in the 1930's and was a die-hard New York Giants fan when we moved to Ohio in 1952. As a matter of fact - the teams he played for were "company teams" (quite common back then) and he played in exhibition games against both the Giants and the Boston Celtics.

According to him, "We got our ass kicked" both times.

Been lucky to see plenty of cool sporting moments in person over the years. But in terms of witnessing true greatness, and at a huge event, im going Tiger Woods winning the 2000 Open Championship at St Andrews.

Any Open at the Home of Golf is always a big deal but having the Millennium Open there was absolutely massive. I've never been at a bigger, more hyped golf event.

Then there's the performance. Woods didnt just win, he destroyed everybody. The Old Course is one of the most heavily bunkered courses out there, like 120 i think. Woods didnt go in one bunker in 72holes, on a windy links course. He set a new all-time record for lowest final score at a major and became the youngest player ever to complete the career grand slam. Fucking momentous.

Woods had a period of like 8years when he was dominant, and within that domination era there was another level still, the Matrix phase. As well as St Andrews, the month before Woods had won the US Open by an unthinkable 15shots. As good as he was at other times in '02 & '05, that June & July 2000 is widely accepted as peak Tiger, the time when the very best was at his very best. It's probably the greatest golf ever played. Really cool to have witnessed some of that.

#1 has to be Super Bowl XVIII -From the "Big Sombrero" in Tampa - Black Sunday - Raiders 38, Redskins 9 - MVP Marcus Allen - My fathers' company won a pair of tickets in a radio promotion, and then he had to draw straws with his business partners to see who finally got the tics. It was meant to be...I was 15.

    #2 - January 1987, Cleveland Stadium - NFL divisional playoffs - Browns 23, Jets 20.... Double OT

#3 - January 1990, Cleveland Stadium - NFL divisional playoffs - Browns 34, Bills 30... Clay Mathews seals game with goal line interception in final seconds.

In 1995 one of my best friends lived in Atlanta. We had tickets for Game 7 of the 95 World Series. Unfortunately, the Braves ended the Series in 6 games. I still got the ticket. We also had tics to the World Series in 2007, but the Indians blew a 3 games to 1 lead in the ALCS to Boston and didn't make it...smh.

Cool........a Super Bowl is very hard to Top Dawg.

For NFL I was "Live" for the Houston Oilers vs the Seattle Seahawks @ the Old King Dome......Al Del Greco was to Kick a 35 yd Field Goal for the Win.....Seattle LB blocked the Kick and the Seahawks recovered the ball and ran it back for a Game winning Touchdown.

I was Pissed off the Oilers Lost but wow that was exciting as the King Dome was Rocking and nearly Collapsed....lol

BUT my ALL Time Favourite for "Live" Sports was Olympic Hockey.....Feb 21st 2010 in Vancouver I got ONE ticket for 400.00 $ to watch the USA vs Canada.........it was Preliminary Round and USA won 5-3 and Ryan Kesler (Vancouver Canuck) scored a goal for the USA........But Canada got revenge and won the Gold Medal vs the USA.......Olympic Hockey was worth every penny I spent.

That's sweet. I love Olympic hockey...

    I thought of a couple other noteworthy events I attended;

-1977 Indy 500. It was significant because AJ Foyt became the first ever 4 time winner, and for the first time ever the field included a female driver. Janet Guthrie....All that said, I was 9 and didn't care about any of it. lol! It was big with my cousins that lived in Indy, but I just wasn't into racing at all. It was just loud and boring to me.

-NFL Opening day, September, 1989. Three Rivers Stadium - Pittsburgh, PA...Browns 51, Steelers 0. To this day, I believe it stands as the worst loss in Steeler history. Pouring rain all day, and no Steeler fans left in their own house after halftime. lol! Good times.
