What is your red wine of choice?

It's the off season and I'm tired of talking about Jared Allen and blah blah blah...

If you don't like red wine, then you're an asshole. So your comments aren't needed.

    Zinfandel
    Cabernet
    Shiraz
    Malbec

Pick one of these or throw in a choice of your own. I love hearing other choices.

Nothing beats a bone-in ribeye with a full-bodied Cab in my book. I recommend Markham. It's a little pricey at a retail of about $45 but it can be had on sale for $25.

    Whatcha got???

Mudncleats wine, craft beer, cigar club????

    Pinot Noir.

La Crema is a good one.

Stags Leap petite Syrah if you want to splurge.

    Pinot Noir is for chicks.

I know you're not a chick, so I can only assume you spike yours with a shot of Jameson.

My rule of red wine... If I can see light through it, it ain't worth a damn.

It has to be at least as dark as my soul.

Jenica Peak Cabernet, 2007 please! There's something about that year that makes it better than the others I've tried. Full on agreement with Bear-Man...................nothing beats a great Cab with red meat, so long as the meat is still red.

Cigar?? I've been on Camacho Triple Maduro's for a number of years.

Scratching my head on this one....

Why is it for chicks again?

Unless you're drinking a strawberry wine cooler or pouring from a bottle labeled "skinny girl", there really isn't a wine that's just for chicks. That's a college kid misnomer.

There are bottles of Pinot Noir wines that sell for thousands of dollars and trust me, they aint "chick" drinks.

If you can find a bottle of 2011 Aubert or a 2009 Kosta Brown, you would change your mind about this or any decent wine being for "chicks".

    Malbec.

I like Terrazas de los andes from Argentina.

    Smooth stuff.

  9. I'm more into White Wine than red, but my favorite is Velvet Red from St. James Winery in Missouri. It is super sweet, but I love it.

If I'm going white, I want a Riesling.

And since I am a girl, I don't care if you call it girly. ;)

    My comment was made tongue-in-cheek.

I've had some decent Pinot Noirs that I did enjoy, I just prefer the heavier reds.

Therefore, if I don't like it, that means it is for chicks. Now it makes sense I bet...

    Makes more sense...

I generally prefer full bodied reds as well. Nothing goes better than an Argentinian Shiraz or a petite Sirah when you're at a Churriscaria...

I just never thought of any real wine as being for one sex.

Cabernet sauvignon from Chile. Had a Chilean roommate when I was living in Australia and he introduced me to his nation's wine, which is IMO hands down the best red wine on the planet. Glass of that with a filet please.

    Riesling.

Pinot Noir may be lighter than Cab but to me they always have far more flavor and complexity to them.

And I am, afterall, a certified Sommelier.

    So bite me.

I'm a big fan of traditional red Zinfandels. Not the crappy white variety from the 80s/90s which gave it a bad name.

Red Zin usually has a distinct black peppery stronger wine flavor. Many are reasonable in price too such as Ravenswood or Seven Deadly Zins.

  19. I'm diabetic, so no wine or decent beer for me :( Mostly have to stick with crap-ass, watery Michelob Ultra (2.6 carbs per bottle). Some hard liquors are carb free, but other than doing shots, I'm not much for drinking liquor straight.

Nothing better than a finely aged Boone's Farm.
