The thinnest position on the roster is now see-through. Good, good, good... Super glad Pace handled this as well as he did. It'd be a shame if we didn't have any other starter-caliber OLB's on the roster...

If Khalil Mack is a real trade option, well... this isn't less incentive to get him.

I knew when i opened this it would be either Floyd or White. I was praying for White. Typical.

Pace had options this past draft. He should've given the position more attention anyway because of its importance, but Floyd's recurring health problems only put it more under the microscope.

Not to throw fuel on the fire but yet another Pace top pick Shaheen got his toe caught in the turf and screwed up his ankle to what extent remains to be seen. It didn't look good on replay.

  8. Shaheen has a mild sprain, should be back by week 1 I think

Hmm... So White is made of glass, Floyd is apparently made of glass, and Roquan held out for the dumbest fucking reason and prob won't be ready week 1. And even if he does play, will be way behind.

Pace had better hope to fucking god Trubisky's pre-season suckiness isn't a sign of things to come.

With the way players have been dropping this preseason I think the Bears are fortunate that Floyd’s injury shouldn’t cause him to miss any games. I’ll take a hand over the wrist any day. His absence will shed some light at just how fucked we are at OLB with Irving and Fitts getting an extended look this week against KC.

What makes Pace look horrible is the absence of Lynch. His sore hammy has kept him from practicing yet this preseason. Not a good look for a player trying to reset his career.

Raise your hand if you were one of the ones that said Floyd was too frail to play NFL linebacker when he was drafted...

Well, I’m not sure I said he was frail, but I was very concerned he was too light and needed to bulk up a bit. And his first year, he got pushed around constantly. I didn’t watch much last year...

My hatred for White has not cooled at all during this preseason. I am just waiting for Mr. Glass to trip on the turf during Week 1 or 2 and end up with a torn rotator or something. It would make me feel a lot better if he showed some flashes of talent I guess, and no, the one wide open catch for a TD today does not give me that hope.

Me either because IMO he didn't look comfortable (out of sorts) doing it. I can see a shit ton of drops in his future.

Just asking.. when did your “hatred” for Kevin White start? And why?

  16. vvarder Franchise Player Bears

    That's easy, right here: http://live4sportnetwork.com/forum/threads/cut-kevin-white.10035/

I know you were on board with this pick, and I also can understand that injuries aren't his fault. However, I have seen no flashes of the all star potential he should have and that game for me was the last straw - and yes, the hatred mostly comes on this performance from a #7 overall pick. Even this preseason he's got some significant playing time, to the tune of 4 receptions. We saw more from a 7th ROUND pick last game.

I couldn't find the number of targets he's gotten in preseason, but this blurb sums it up for me well:
"Bears head coach Matt Nagy stated that he needs to see what White can do, as the coach is unsure if he can help when it matters most, Larry Mayer of the Bears website reports.

White has seen plenty of snaps during the preseason, but other than catching a few short passes, he's yet to show that he's a threat that can push his way into the regular rotation at receiver. He didn't have a great showing in the team's third preseason game against the Broncos, as he caught two passes for 15 yards on four targets. For a player that doesn't figure to contribute on special teams, he could find himself competing for a spot on the regular-season roster."

So in the last game, he got that TD, one of 2 more receptions, and he was WIDE open.

Curious myself, do you still think he has potential? Not based on college, but based on what he's done in the past few years of preseason and the very few games he's actually played in?

I was on board. You’re right. But now that I’ve seen him in albeit still pretty limited action, I’m not.

He doesn’t have “it” - the eye test. Zero explosiveness, zero suddenness, zero RAC nastiness whatsover. He will go down as a bust.

My question was more along the lines of, did you like him before or after he got injured.

Because hating a guy for just for getting injured alone isn’t fair to the player, and it seems a little shallow-minded as a fan of the game. Not saying you’re shallow-minded; I know better from your posts, just asking when you started hating him.

I think he’ll make the team but we’re looking at 20-30 receptions and 2-4 Td’s. He’s just a guy at this point unfortunately.

Hroniss Grasu reportedly on the trading block

Hroniss Grasu has failed to live up to expectations with the Chicago Bears. A third-round pick in 2015, Grasu was supposed to be a part of a new wave of athletic interior offensive linemen who rely more on their speed and mobility as opposed to brute-force strength. A few years into his run with the team it appears he could be on the trade block. According to Albert Breer of the Monday Morning Quarterback, Grasu is someone the veteran scribe has heard is available on the trade block.

Breer notes in his piece that "offensive linemen are the hottest commodity out there on the market." In addition to naming Grasu as someone he has heard to be available he also mentions Indianapolis Colts tackle Austin Howard, Oakland Raiders tackle Jylan Ware and Philadelphia Eagles guard Chance Warmack.

After he was taken in the third round of the 2015 draft there was hope he could eventually slide into a starting role along the offensive line. Veteran Will Montgomery began the season as the starting center before an injury forced him to go on injured reserve. Grasu eventually took over and started eight games at the center position that year with mixed results. While he performed well in the screen game and when asked to pull, he struggled mightily against bigger, stronger interior defensive linemen.

Grasu entered the 2016 offseason as the team's de facto starter at the center position even though the team had added veterans Ted Larson and Max Ramirez to the mix in free agency. A torn ACL injury in early August ended Grasu's second season and he had to sit on the sidelines and watch 2016 second-round pick Cody Whitehair excel at the position. Last year he entered the regular season as a reserve offensive lineman. He was later thrust into game action due to a myriad of injuries along the line of scrimmage. He finished last season with six appearances and four starts.

The young lineman is now facing an uphill battle to make the team. He lacks the versatility to be considered a reliable guard, meaning all of his value lies at the center position. The team already has pledged their allegiance to Whitehair as their starter at the position for this upcoming season, drafted another center in James Daniels in the second round this past April and have a versatile interior offensive linemen in Eric Kush who can play both guard spots and center.

Some speculated he would have a better chance of making the roster this year because his former head coach at Oregon, Mark Helfrich, is now Chicago's offensive coordinator. In the preseason he has been average at best. The type of value Grasu holds right now is an unknown, but with Breer noting offensive line depth is a problem around the league the Bears may be able to pull off a deal with a desperate team for a conditional draft pick in the coming days.

Now thats the funniest thing i'll read all week.

The team must be worried about starting the season with a lack of urinal pucks at Soldier Field. Cos thats all they'd get for this turkey.

Makes sense, I wasn't thrilled with the pick since we had so many other holes to fill (and we still had Jeffrey) and as seems to be Pace's trademark, filling a hole he created. Unlike most I didn't hate him outright. That said, once he was a Bear, like all Bears, I wanted to see him succeed and wasn't sold one way or the other. I still want him to succeed, as much as I it makes me angry to see such a high pick as "just a guy".

Just before that thread I had read about him arguing with the WR coach, which for a guy who was in serious "prove it" territory didn't sit well with me, and his terrible performance before getting injured was the icing on the cake. I won't be sad at his inevitable departure.
