Sorry Kenibals. First weekend I’m not out of town, anyone want to talk Browns football?? What you all got for tomorrow? This, imho, will be a good week for the Browns. Any other year, I think jet lag could play a factor, but I think the run game gets churning early this week any the time change is irrelevant. I worry most about Myles, is he playing?? It sounds like he is a go, but haven’t heard anything official. We’ll need pressure on Herbert or it could be a long day for the defense. He can score points in a hurry. shoot out, Browns win 31-28
Whew... lot to unpack on this one, guys. Glad the thread was started late and I didn't have a chance to predict it since I didn't feel great going into this one. 1. Complimentary football. Worries that the offense was stuck in neutral and spinning its tires from Minnesota did not carry over. They posted 500+ yards of offense, 42 points, and were doing that despite being down their best playmaker (Landry), starting left tackle, and losing their right tackle in the first quarter. And unlike the Minnesota game, the defense pooped down their leg. "But injuries... " sure - they affect everyone. Good football teams coach up their back-ups to not allow simple coverages to be blown for 72 and 42 yards for touchdowns. 2. Joe Woods. For whom the bell tolls. I don't want to see Joe Woods fired mid-season because that's a recipe for disaster, but this team needs to move on from Woods after this season. He's abysmal. He coached defensive backs for San Francisco and they're our worst performing group by a mile. John Johnson taking that big salary to play slightly above replacement level of Sendejo. Denzel Ward is a bust (sorry, OSU fans) and this should be his last season here, too. Early sneak peek at my Browns' 2022 Mock Draft: R1 - CB, R2 - OT, R3 - CB. 3. Jamie Gillan. Wow is he bad. Time to move on here. And I mean immediately. Browns should be working out punters in Berea this morning. I find it incredibly hard to believe there isn't a guy out there who can give us more than 40 yards a punt. Special teams is surely a much smaller part of the big picture and one punter isn't the difference between Super Bowl and 4-13, but srue would be nice to not suck up the room on the field position game every single time. 4. Slodell Beckham. Another add to the "time to go" list. 4th and 2 inside the redzone: 5. Mack Wilson. I cannot believe we cut Elijah Lee and kept this jackaloon. 6. The Refs. Yeah... of course it was coming so we saved the best for last. Not too often you record 500+ yards of offense, score 42 points, hold the opposing team to 35 points, and still lose the game. But that's exactly what happened Sunday after the refs gifted the Bolts two scores and three huge fourth-down conversions in the game. This game was over in the third until the zebras got itchy flags for the brown and orange team. There are so many examples to go through, but just the top ones... A. A.J. Green getting mugged and the DPI call against him B. Holding on J.C. Tretter when the defensive lineman had his hands on his throat C. Massive facemak on Garrett that resulted in *checks notes* holding call on the Browns' secondary And I don't know what I expected. Last time these teams squared off, the referees gifted the victory to the Bolts just like Sunday. The calls were so bad then that they took the unprecendented step of firing an official mid-season after the game and the calls last night were WAY worse than that one. Yes, the defense is bad and Joe Woods sucks and Jamie Gillan puts us in bad situations and Odell doesn't have the talent to help us on offense any more. And yet, the Browns *STILL* won that game yesterday. Only to have the referees snatch it away from them. I guess they do what they gotta do to make their LA product viable, but c'mon. I'm disgusted at this one.
My sentiments exactly. What a joke, especially on the 4th and 4 P.I. call. Total BS. We had the game won right there. Why can't we use replay to keep the refs in check? All 3 camera angles showed clear offensive P.I., yet we just have to eat a big shit sandwich and live with it, because for all intents and purposes, that was the ball game. One other thing. Message to coach Stefanski; WTH was with those calls at the end? Are you kidding me with the run on 3rd and 10??? I understand the intent, but c'mon man. You gotta let Baker have a chance make a play for ya in that situation. We can't just give it back to #10, whom we've had no answer for all day. Geezus, does it really matter whether Herbert had 2 and a half minutes, or two minutes at the end of that game? You had to know he was going to break it off in your ass if you give him another chance. That sucked.
It was hard enough in the moment. Re-watching it from *every* angle this morning? Made me want to vomit in anger. Ref that called it and the head referee should both be terminated with cause today by NFL Officiating. I really cannot stress how poor a job Joe Woods does at adapting a gameplan. Chiefs, Texans, and Chargers were all the same story - come in with an approach and stick with it no matter what. The only reason the Vikings and Bears games looked good for him is that he guessed right on how best to beat them heading into it.
Refs just plain suck. But what can be done? The Chiefs had a very bogus roughing the passer penalty basically giving buffalo the game.
But the Chiefs have the ball just inside the 50 yard line if the refs don’t make the call. It was an INT and the Chiefs had all the momentum. I’m not going to say that the Chiefs would have won, but that was a back breaking penalty that crushed the Chiefs hopes.
It's a penalty we are seeing in just about every game, every week. Chiefs lost because their leading rusher was their QB and the opposing QB threw 3 TDs on their defense.
As a Browns diehard, I'm getting used to the refs just automatically assuming that Cleveland was in the wrong... Blame it on 20 years of shit football. Refs are conditioned like the rest of the world...When in doubt, it must be a Browns mistake.
Two heartbreakers in the first 5 weeks. Both times we led by multiple scores and then blinked in the second half.... I still believe that the Cleveland Browns are the best team in the AFC and they will represent in the SB... Pissed off team is going to regroup and defend the Land in fine fashion this week. Mark my words....Zona feelin good about being the only undefeated. They gettin punched in the face Sunday...Actually, where's Dan Campbell? We might be lookin to bite some kneecaps this week.
I really think this could be over-reaction...We gave up a total of 13 points in the two previous games combined. Honestly man, we made the stop that we had to make yesterday. The NFL decided they wanted something else evidently, but I can't blame Woods. Both CB's were out and we were facing a monster. Plus Clowney and Myles weren't good to go....Obviously we had major miscommunication issues in the secondary. We got work to do. I'm almost certain that Woods' plan wasn't to just let Mike Williams run free..
