We all have our favorites. What are your favorite movies that flopped at the box office. Years later, you find it on cable or streaming or somewhere else. And when you get done watching it, you think "that was a damn good movie. How did I miss that ?" Me ? 3 come to mind. I'm sure there are more. 1) A Christmas Story. It tanked at the box office. But,,, C'mon. We've all seen it. We know every scene and every line. And to this day we all still watch it once or twice every December. 2) The Whole Nine Yards. Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Michael Clark Duncan. Great plot twists. Funnier than hell. 3) This one gets me every time I find it playing. Silverado. Just a good 'ol fashioned cowboy shoot-em-up. For some reason, I just have to sit down and watch it again, and again, and again...……..
Silverado's a good call. I guess A Christmas Story qualifies when considering the "flopped at the box office" caveat. I would unquestionably add Office Space to the list with that criteria in place, but I don't think either one would be considered underrated now.
There are so, so many. Off the top of my head? Seven Psychopaths. Brilliant movie. Funny, deep, action-laden, plenty of great actors... Written and directed by the same guy who won awards with "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri". Cast and crew who were apart of both said they thought the awards should've been there for Seven Psychopaths, but were glad he got them either way.
Diggstown Bat 21 Secondhand Lions Open Range Tin Cup I don't pay a lot of attention to reviews or box office success. Those are just movies I enjoyed. If they don't qualify as underated, that's okay.
Secondhand Lions I thought it was OK. My wife loves that movie !!! Open Range Oh hell yes !!!!!! Tin Cup When it's cold, wet, rainy outside ?? Fun movie to watch.
Manhunter - the real prequel to the Silence of the Lambs with Brian Cox as Hannibal Lecter. Will Graham is a lot smarter and crafty than Jodie Foster's naive Clarice Starling. Very solid. The remade it into RED DRAGON, which is the book's original title. Not a bad remake, but the original is much better.
Movies to me that are underrated.. Searching for Bobby Fischer Things We Lost in the Fire Better Off Dead Life After Beth
BETTER OFF DEAD is the John Cusack comedy with the kid wanting his $2 for the newspaper. the dorky Mom in the movie was the little girl who was Oscar Nominated in True Grit.
Two brothers... One speaks no English, the other learned English from watching "The Wide World of Sports." So you tell me... Which is better, speaking no English at all, or speaking Howard Cosell?
Cassandra's Dream - a little known Woody Allen movie with outstanding performances by Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. It's not a typical Allen film or a role for Farrell. He exceeds any doubt he's a good actor in this movie.
Take This Waltz was pretty good. Flirting With Disaster. The Yards. Not enough people have seen these movies.
^^ liked Spy Game a lot. Loved how he got Brad Pitt out. Hated how they treated Redford on his last day.
Great calls on My Favorite Year, Flirting With Disaster, and Secondhand Lions. Idiocracy should be on this list, too, can't believe I forgot that one. Appaloosa - good western with Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen, Renee Zellweger, and Jeremy Irons
I think Idiocracy is underrated. It’s a true indication of what would happen if bears fans took over the world.
