Saints owner Tom Benson died last Thursday. And I don't have a good feeling about this. I've seen this kind of situation here in LA before. And it's not pretty.
I grew up a Rams fan. Carroll Rosenbloom was the owner. He was a football guy. Loved the game, loved the team. And did whatever it took to keep the team competitive. He wound up dying and his wife got a hold of the team. And IMO was the main reason that the Rams ended up leaving town. Not the fans !!! She wouldn't re sign free agents. She kept going cheap. Had Chuck Knox as a head coach. He built a monster of a team. His contract came up and she wouldn't give him a raise. He left. The team that he built went to the Super Bowl the following year. She could have hired Don Coryell from San Diego. Nope. She didn't want to pay the money. The team just floundered around after that. The crowds got thinner and the rest is history. As for the Saints. I know there were court battles between Benson's kids and her over who gets the team after he dies. The kids lost. But they seemed to have an interest in really running the team on a day today basis. We'll see what happens.
