Straight to the ugly: We lost to a winless team again. Does this equate to another miserable 8-8 season.

Sorry Mano for starting this but you pulled a Jackal on us this week.

Maybe if this was October we could have at least looked like the pansies we played like.

And Tomlin had more BullShit than Lovie during his press conference.

I am glad we don't play the Saints next week, they are getting their ass kicked by the Cowboys.

The Good: uh... um... hmm... i'll get back to that later.
The Bad: LACK OF PREPARATION... AGAIN. LACK OF DISCIPLINE... AGAIN. TRICKY-LEG'S Post-Game Presser (Same Ol S**t)
The Ugly: giving away a VERY winnable football game to an 0-3 shitbag bottom-feeder team that usually looks like this:

yeah, but Jax got pounded today... it's a good thing Tomlin's teams feel bad for the unfortunate ones. Tomlin's Steelers are like that older girl on the block back in the old neighborhood. she always said, "Let ME be your first."

The Good Not going ot put anything in the good category. Yes there were some guys who played well today but an individual having a good game means nothing if the team doesn't win. So while Brown was once again Brown for the most part it means very little when you drop the game.

The Bad Dropped passes and over thrown balls. Individually none of them cost you a game (sorry I don't belive in one play makes or breaks your game when the game is 60 minutes long), but when you add them up together it ends up just being bad news for the Steelers.

The Ugly It has been here all 4 weeks but today it was even worse PENALTIES. Not just penalties but stupid penalties. Antonio Brown this means you and your celebration penalty act like you have scored a touchdown before. Pull out some game film watch the likes of Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Marcus Allen, and Jim Brown. They scored plenty and didnt act like it was a big deal. Why? Maybe because they planned to get there again. Maybe because they had their mind on winning a game not show boating.
    More on Penalties

    • Bell for taunting penalty negating a 16 yard run.
90 yards of the Steelers 135 penalty yards came on 6 personal fouls.
3 false starts including one on Pouncey
      3 illegal use of hands
      2 illegal formations[/*]

This team would make Al Davis proud problem with that is its raiders football not Steelers ball. There is no excuse for Brown's, or Bell's penalties. Tunch Ilken or Craig Wolfely (sorry cant remember which one it was) said it plain and simple act like you have been there before. Coach Noll preached it and practiced it with his players and that is who they (Ilken and Wolfely) credited for teaching them to play like they had been there. Cowher was all fire and emotion but do you think he would have stood for stupid penalties like these? Bell and Brown would have a little less ass under cower.

I'm also going to put Steelers fans here in the ugly. No not all fans. Im targeting a specific group here. The ones crying about the penalties and how the Steelers are getting unfair treatment from the refs. Just shut up do you know how pathetic you sound when you blame the Refs for the penalties and for them being the reason the Steelers lost? There is no conspiracy against the Steelers there is no Goodell behind a movement to penalize the Steelers more than any team in history. There isnt even a let throw a flag to keep the game close conspiracy (before you say yes there is go look at the penalties in todays blow out games. The Cowboys were penalized 6 times the Chargers 7 and they were blowing out their opponents. The Ravens in a blow out were penalized less then the Panthers and the Redskins Thursday were penalized more than the Giants. So no there are no conspiracies just bad and sometimes stupid penalties made by the Steelers players so quit crying how the Steelers lost because the refs made them loose. They lost because they are an undisciplined team right now.

well, it looks like it was ONLY a nightmare... the Steelers ARE 3-1. Fox Sports thought so anyway.[IMG]
we are the 65%! well, not quite.

just look at that menacing scowl. very convincing. that focus. just look at that genius football mind at work. i'll bet he's thinking about how he's gonna close this game out and walk out of that stadium victorious. the epitome of resolve and success.
ok, that's enough. i'm fresh outta bulls**t, unlike the star of the photo above.

The inability to beat teams whothat are among the bottom-feeders in the league, especially at home, has been a recurring theme the past three seasons. It is also the third year the Steelers have set a bad tone by losing to a winless team early in the season. If that?s not bad enough, the Steelers committed 13 penalties for 135 yards, including three post-whistle personal fouls by three of their top players. That?s been a recurring theme, too.

    Grade: F

    ----------------

That's from the Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac on his grade of the coaching yesterday and I can't say anything to rebut that...

    The Good
Despite really poor play from the OL, specifically Beachum and Wallace, the offense continued to look pretty good. Unfortunately they failed at crunch time, and had other drops that would have eliminated the need to come through in crunch time.

The Steelers didn't pay Jason Worilds like they did did Cortez Allen. He isn't playing as hard as he did before he got paid. On the bright side he won't go anywhere else, and he won't get a big payday either.

They didn't give up any big running plays against a pair of pretty good running backs.

    The Bad
Not sure where to begin on this, or how to separate the Bad from the Ugly. Lack of FB use a week after clearly seeing the benefit of the lead blocker. This was predicted in discussions during the week. You think that may have helped get a first down with 2 minutes to play? Me too.

Post play celebrations have been a pet peeve of mine for years. I wouldn't allow them if I were a coach. They don't add anything for me personally, and I think they are disrespectful and selfish. Losers shouldn't be selfish, but selfish players tend to be losers. AB, good as he is, has been selfish.

I think Pouncey had his hands full yesterday. Most snaps were low and I'm sure several hampered the timing of the offensive plays. That can happen when you face a dominant DT but I don't know whether that is the reason for the snaps.

I thought Cortez Allen would take a big step this season. I liked the extension he got. I was wrong. FIRE LTS!

Lack of DB depth killed them yesterday. The street players they brought in just aren't capable guys.

    The Ugly
Everything else about the game. This team is still not playing well consistently. I can't think of a single player who looked impressive yesterday. Heath Miller is the only one that comes to mind, but even he had an early drop. And Ben, I can't fault him for a bad throw or two in the grand scheme of things. He played under duress quite a bit.

    Penalties, which everyone has covered

    Other
It looks like 5-3 will be my target for the first half of the season. I was hoping for 6-2 but I don't see this team winning 4 in a row.

70% of the Steelers' problems are fixable. 20% are roster issues. 10% are injury related. The 70% is up to the coaches. The 20% is up to the front office. The 10% happens to everybody - really, this team is pretty healthy with only 4 starters out of the lineup and none of them are likely gone for the full year.

Sorry for being MIA on the thread this week. I didn't get to watch that debacle until late last night. I suppose I will share my thoughts now:

    THE GOOD:

The anger makes it difficult to find good in this game, but the reality is that it was there. I am not going to single anybody out because the guys who played well also contributed to the loss. By and large, the offense played well. That opening series did not inspire confidence, but the rest of the game was very good. Ben was efficient, Bell ran hard, the receivers got open.

    THE BAD:

Well, this is a bit easier...

The Defense - They played very well in the first half. I just don't understand the alignments sometimes. On 3rd and 5 in the fourth quarter, the DBs are playing 8 yards off the line and they give up a short slant for a first down. On 2nd and 23 they are playing press man and get beaten down the field for a 21 yard catch to set up 3rd and short. Now, I love Dick Lebeau and I have defended the off coverage before, even on 3rd and short, but come on!

The OL - They weren't terrible outside of a few plays, but those few plays were big. Those two sacks on the opening drive were awful. They opened some lanes and protected Ben pretty well from there on out, but that opening drive was enough to put them in this category. And what was with all the low snaps from Pouncey?? Did anyone else notice that Ben was picking the ball up off his shoes all night?

    THE UGLY:

P E N A L T I E S - Disgusting! 6 personal fouls!! The after the whistle stuff is on the coaches in my opinion. We have seen it too much already and Tomlin, Haley and Lebeau need to put a stop to it. Its an emotional game and you don't want to take all the emotion out of it, but these guys need to control themselves.
The facemasks are on the players. Good form and good position would prevent those penalties and these guys are not doing it.

Playcalling - Not in general, but that last possession, or specifically, the last called run to Bell. Of course, if it works, I wouldn't be complaining, but we pay Ben to win games, Haley has to learn to let him win them.

That hurts, bb. That really hurts. :(

  18. manosteel9423 Franchise Player Steelers

Agreed, bb, looks like Manomatics at its finest. Hard to argue with, though. Most of the problems this team has are "fixable". The penalties, the play calling, the lack of focus...all are "fixable". The question is, can they fix it?

At this point, I'm not so sure. That is the fourth game of the year and they are still committing stupid penalties. Between the whistle penalties I can live with. Before the play and after the play penalties are unacceptable.

I still like their chances overall. As horrible as the result of that game was, there is alot to be excited about from a quality of play standpoint. Eliminate the stupidity and they are pretty good. Eliminate the stupidity and make some splash plays on defense and they will be really good.

    The Good :

I didn't gave to watch another bullshit performance from this team.

    The Bad:

I didn't get to watch the game.

    The Ugly:

Wanting your team to make the playoffs knowing they are a bad team and will only get their ass kicked!

Just curious what does the NFL gain by hosing the Steelers? There is no Peyton Manning on the Bucs so why would they be calling in favor of the visiting team?
