To use a Lovie-ism. I've been reading a bit of reddit and my god it seems like only the homers are allowed to post. Dreams of this team being "this close" to 8-4 instead of 6-6, and running the table and getting into the playoffs. I think the lack of activity here speaks to the fact that the rest of us are realists. Not to take away from the Lions win, it was overall a solid win against a shitty team. They looked better in that game than they did the previous two, and delivered points for once when it mattered. However, look forward to the end of the year: Cowboys @ Packers Chiefs @ Vikings Watching the thanksgiving Cowboys game, it was clear they were getting a lot of push Defensively, Trubs is going to be running for his life this thursday and there WILL be boos. By the same token, I can see the Bears possibly eeking this one out? I don't know, it's a Prime time game and the Cowboys are fighting to win the East. But for those remaining 3 games, the way this team is playing they will be lucky take even one of those remaining games. The Chiefs have Mahomes back and I guarantee there will be multiple comments on how the Bears should have taken him. If the offense magically clicks anything is possible, but I still haven't seen it. I think 7-9 is about where we're going to end up. This 3 game winning streak hasn't really changed my mind. Anything is possible I guess
Does anyone think this team is capable of beating good teams? They haven't, yet. So why would they beat several in a row? Celebrating wins over bad teams is fine, especially when they're the Lions. But expecting wins over good teams is a step too far.
The Cowboys have an uncanny knack for underachieving and losing games they should win. Thus I can totally see us getting dominated in total yardage, first downs, style points, etc. and still pulling this one out if the Cowboys fuck up. The best team we've beaten this year is the Vikings and I expect them to slip a little bit in these next 4 games and then shit the bed in the wild card round, if they get there. But to answer your question, No. If we can some how beat the Peckers and knock them down a seed or two in the playoff standings, I will feel good about the final quarter of the season. Right now that's the only thing that matters to me. Unfortunately I expect we'll lose by 20+ points.
IF and it ain’t happening we win out we still get our hearts broken when the Rams beat the cardinals and go to the playoffs. This is the best case scenario for the Bears. One loss and we are really really out. Currently the Vikings hold a 3 game advantage in the loss column. They have the Seahawks tonight then the Lions, Chargers, Packers and us. In order for the last game to mean something we would need the Vikings to lose 2 before our game with them. The Rams are 1 game ahead of us with the tie breaker. So they need to lose 2 as well. They play the Seahawks, Cowboys, 49ers and Cardinals. I guess vvarder was on to something with the Seahawks. We will need their help. If we do beat the Cowboys we get the Packers who get there revenge game from us ending their season last year. If we beat the Packers we get Mahomes coming to town to show off who we should have picked instead of Trubisky. If we beat the Chiefs we then get to play in Minnesota for a possible miraculous ending to the season. I don’t see our hopes lasting to the last game of the season. One interesting point is that the next 3 defenses we face aren’t exactly world beaters so it is possible Trubisky finishes strong squashing any hope I have of the Bears going all in on Teddy B. Merry Fucking Christmas.
I'm definitely a realist but imagine if Pineiorarkey had hit that field goal against the Chargers.......and if the whole team didn't suck donkey dick against the Raiders. After the Minnesota loss last night you're looking at a potential playoff team. This is a game of inches and the Bears are just inches away from being somewhat relevant this season. That being said....it's a deeply flawed team that I wouldn't have nearly as much faith in for the playoffs as I did last season.
Yes and no. People forget how lucky we were to win the Broncos game, got lucky again when we faced the Lions in early November with Stafford going down only hours before kickoff, got lucky again that the Giants kicker missed multiple FGs in 5 point win. These lucky wins negate the Chargers and Raiders losses. We're closer to 4-8 than we are to 8-4. We're being teased right now. If we beat the Cowboys the playoff talk among the fans will get real, and it shouldn't cuz we're going to get our asses kicked in Green Bay either way.
And IF by some miracle we pull off the upset against the overrated Peckers, there is a roughly zero percent chance we take down the Chiefs. If they Beat the Chiefs after beating Green Bay I’ll buy my Super Bowl tickets.
Mongo will probably sell you his hotel tickets for the Super Bowl at that time because I don't see him thinking they still have a chance at that point regardless.
You want the Bears to go “all-in” on a career 88.3 passer with a major injury history and a 38/25 TD/INT ratio? (pssst... Trubisky has a 44/26 ratio) Why?
His injury was bad but he is 3 years removed from it. He is still young enough to be a franchise QB. I feel he would be a very good fit in Nagy’s system. He has never looked like a shit QB.
- Okay. But he was never a mobile QB to begin with, and struggles when the pocket collapses. - So is Mitch. So is my nephew. None of the three ever will be though. Bridgewater has proven he isn’t. - Reasons? His inaccurate passing? His immobility? His penchant for throwing INT’s? His slight build? - Mmm. You have a short memory. He’s had some real duds just like our boy Mitch. Look at his game logs. Bridgewater is what he is. A quality backup that never panned out as a starter, and never will. I would bring in Tannehill or Mariota before him. If only for camp competition. Hell, even Foles would be a better choice.
Most QB’s struggle when the pocket collapses. Teddy does a good job of hanging in a collapsing pocket and delivering the ball. Kind of like Daniel only better. What he lacks in mobility he makes up for in accuracy. Says you. He lost his starting gig due to injury. His first real look as a starter since was this season and he excelled. Inaccurate passing? His career passing percentage is 65.2. In 3 of his 5 starts he had a completion percentage of 70+. He has had some duds. Mostly his rookie season. But he has never been bad for a stretch of games like Mitch has this season. You need to do more than look at stats to see that. Never panned out as a starter? He only started one full season was a pretty good one. Then he got hurt. It not like he fell out of favor do to poor play. Younlkke who you like I like who I like. I wound that’s Tannehill. No thank you to Mariota the Mitch clone.
16 starts - 3200 yards 14tds, 9 picks. If that’s “pretty good” Mitch is the fuckin’ MVP. You fell for the flavor of the month. It’s ok. Happens to the best of us.
Trubisky has been very good over his past 4 starts. If he plays that way during the final 3....he's our guy next season deservedly so. If he turns back to trash...scrap him. He has to play well when the pressure is on. Like against Green Bay in a prime time game. Or a playoff game. A do or die scenario. Nagy's playcalling lately has been really good and that's helping Mitch alot. Aside from the wildcat play to Patterson on Thursday...I don't walk away with anything to complain about playcalling wise. The other thing that is helping Mitch is people besides AR making plays. Anthony Miller has raised his game. The Bears got production from their two unknown tight ends Thursday. Patterson has been a Pro Bowl player on ST all year and he has contributed to the offense late. Mitch isn't a guy that can do it alone so having that help is massive. I don't have my hopes up for the next 3 games. I think some of the recent results are part of the quality of opponents. But the good thing is Mitch, Nagy, and the offense have confidence right now and that can do a lot for a team.
Mitch has played very well lately. And as the Rams game just ended, I thought to myself - Mitch is better than Goff. And he is. For way less. And that made me feel better. Then I refilled my glass of bourbon. And I felt even better.
Akeim Hicks is back, apparently. Gotta imagine even if he's not 100%, he's such an upgrade to what we've seen from the present 3 down lineman. Time to find out what a 4th string ILB can do after an impressive 1st week. If I had to guess someone Erin is going to target, probably going to be Kevin Pierre-Louis, so I expect a fuckload of Jimmy Graham especially with Adams banged up. Its annoying that the packers have a real pass rusher again. I don't like Za'Darius Smith against Charles Leno, so Mitch may want to apply getting rid of the ball quickly, except can we cut the running backwards shit out? The packers run defense has been shitty 2nd half this season (averaging 134 yards a game), so maybe run a lot. And hopefully these nobody tight ends keep getting better. I'd love nothing more than to stop seeing Ben Braunecker and Adam Shaheen do anything. The game's winnable. The road to the playoffs isn't.
Hopefully the players and coaches will treat this game as our Super Bowl since the playoffs aren't happening.
