The Ditch part deux

I was impressed by the Pens trying to play defensive, the Ottowa goal was so tic-tac-toe, before a blink of the eye,

Pens might be getting cocky though, that is worry, must say they don`t have great defensive backliners, to play prevent requires a lot of talent not going the other way to the net...

  3. Mercury Guest

In other words, Pens have to go full throttle forward, not try and protect a lead...

Halo , know about the loss of pressure in how much time it takes to relieve oneself, I used to sound like Niagara Falls

Rumour hot off the press, Patrick Roy is the leading candidate for the avalanche coaching job.

  6. Mercury Guest

Interesting Skinny, he didn't want the Habs job, but could see him doing it in the shadow of the bright lights in Colorado.

Patrick Roy does an on and off appearance on the Habs after game show, owns a QHJL team though, maybe to get his son in the NHL....Roy comes from a wealthy family, add his salary...don't eff with him ;-)

Is the habs job available? I haven't heard anything over here, is Therien on the hot seat?

I'm expecting a Boucher-esque run out of him if that's the case. The team will have enough talent to win lots of games in a division where only Chicago and STL will have roster continuity (Min will still be moving lots of pieces). Low expectations will give him a long rope too. I think having Roy as coach will be a big mistake for the franchise at the end of the day. I think fans will win with wonderful soundbites from him. Chicago got "Commit to the Indian" out of a Savard mini-meltdown, I can only imagine what Roy would have up his sleeves for Avs fans.

Boring OT game last night. I wanted 4 OTs.

I think the teams still in the playoffs are going to lose a few assistant coaches and personnel this offseason. I was expecting more minor movement by now.

Did the playoff series win save the job for Torts?

Big shock Torres hurt somebody, when does Cooke "accidentally" hurt somebody again or hurt them on a "legal" hit? Wilson is one of my favorite gms, hated to see him react like Gillis, Lemieux, etc. when he picked up a guy that has zero margin for error on a high hit. It was almost like finding out Santa was really a opossum in a nearby tree, tragic.
New CBA twist only allows arbitration of suspension for 6 games or more. Torres gets to call Stoll and tell him "sorry" and stuff.

I have to go with Boudreau by a hair over MacLean for coach of the year. Lots of good candidates this year, tougher year than most. Therrien, and Quenneville (record and pres trophy) would be good choices too. Funny to read so much praise for Babcock's handling of the rookies on various sites, I don't think most Wings fans have noticed what the rosters really looked like top to bottom the last 20 years.

All the interesting and hazy stories about injuries coming out now. OV's fracture, Carlyle messing with Julien by skating Bozak with tricep tear, who was rushed back/held back, etc.

Gulutzman fired. Not his fault, bad gm. I think he'll get another crack at a roster in 3-5 years somewhere. He had too many roster holes. Showed he was able to stay competitive and make adjustments to get other lines and the pp productive. Coaches that make new and creative mistakes will get another chance as long as they don't repeat same ones. I wouldn't mind if Chicago takes him on when somebody snags Kompon, but he has no connection to Q so it's unlikely.

Cant blame Savard for melting down back in the Khabi and Havlat days. Dark days in that locker room, or so Im told. 'Commit to the Indian' is great. Gotta be bad before you can be good....and get Toews and Kane.

Torres and Cooke should have a death match. Winner gets to fight a pride of lions.

Some great coaches this year. I was surprised Therrien and Carlyle didn't get the nod. Too many turn arounds I guess. And how about Therrien on the hot seat? Must be a real dink if he lead s a team w/ the 3rd pick in the draft to 2 seed. And Im completely w/ ya on Gulutzman bob, never really had a shot w/ that team.

Seems like the whining is growing amongst fans at the same rate as players. Both alarming.

I have a bad feeling about the Avs if Roy is behind the bench. Although, he could sit Varlamov and play himself.

Howdy everyone...nice to find a new place I can call home. Long live the Ditch!

I shall return later, with hopefully, thoughtful insight on all things ditch worthy.

The NHL playoffs have sure been alot of fun this season

Amen to that. Savard never should have been the coach. Tallon had already thrown Yawney under the bus into a terrible situation and then did it to Savard. Savard wouldn't still be with the Hawks if anybody liked him as a coach, Tallon doesn't get enough credit for trashing careers. Yawney still hasn't recovered, had to hit the reset button on his coaching career in Norfolk.
I like that. Where did you come up with "pride of lions"? good thinking.

I promise to do my share of bitching because of the bitching. I wish they had a provision added to the CBA or bylaws that would start fining announcers and play by play types for whining, bitching, and questioning officials so often. They're the ones really fueling so many of the reporters/writers in the states and riling up the fanbases. Players need to shut their damn mouths too. So little mention of game plan changes, line changes, various adjustments, mistakes, etc. compared to the mentions of officiating in way too many instances. I wonder how many more years of this we'll have to suffer through before things shift back.

Landeskog, O'Reilly, Statsny, and Duchene in a contract year. I will expect the Avs to come blazing out of the gate only to implode later no matter who is coach. The franchise is a mess top to bottom still. Not sure a rookie NHL coach is a good idea. Roy will be fun though. After a year or two, I think he'll be "fun-bad" too.

    Ahoy Will!

maybe its because the announcers are getting lazy and going after the officiating is the easy way out. if someone does't know the nuances of a particular subject (e.g. hockey), then they will usually take the "cop-out" route and infuriate the masses with jibberish and accusations. it's like the small village mob mentality.

Now we can have a rangers and avs final, have torts and roy go back and forth, now there's a marketing scheme, go for it nhl, make it happen lol.

Hey will, welcome to the ditch part deux.

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I agree with that. Maybe they've had too many helpers and can't actually focus on the games too.
