I'm pretty sure we've had this conversation before but who are your favorite and least favorite working NHL announcers (play-by-play and/or color)?

Best:

1. Chris Cuthbert
2. Dave Strader
3. Bob Cole
4. Jim Hughson
5. Steve Cangialosi

Worst:

1. Jack Edwards
2. Paul Steigerwald
3. John Forslund
4. Ken Daniels
5. Brian Engblom

 

can't argue much with either list, mo. first off, cuthbert way >>>> anyone else. cole needs to retire before he pulls a jackson and gets flat out senile on the air. dunno the new devils guy. i know a lot of people don't like him, but i like randy hahn. ferraro and razor are good color guys. engblom i'm neutral on - the rest of the worst list is money. i'd replace engblom with beninati.

and the red wings' radio play by play guy is an abomination. what he does with his voice is all kinds of wrong.

 

Where's Pierre McGuire?

 

There's something about Randy Hahn I don't like. I can't put my finger on it, though. Their color guy gets on my nerves sometimes, too.

Brian Engblom is just annoying to me. When he goes on too long about a play he just sounds dumb.

I forgot about Ferraro. I like him, too -- unbiased, calls it like he sees it.

Cangialosi is first on my list of home broadcast play-by-play announcers. I'm not sure why people would have a problem with him.

I still like Bob Cole. Until he does go senile I want him to continue calling games.

I'm neutral on Beninati.

I haven't heard Ken Cal call a game in years. I don't get Red Wings radio down here.

 

I don't consider Pierre a color commentator. Eddie Olczyk does color on that broadcast.

 

I consider color commentary to be the least necessary for Hockey of all major sports.

 

Maybe. When it's done well I like it quite a bit. When it's done poorly I want to mute the TV.

 

Okay point taken, glad you can shut Pierre out... he annoys me in every category...Hi Sol ;-)

Yo Maurice, don't get me wrong, have been an avid follower of hockey for many years ( five decades), perhaps a homey, but have not seen anything come close to the combination of Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin Jr...

 

as annoying Dick rvin Jr voice was..he learned a lot of hockey from his father.
