Sorry Cutter, I'm trying to think about the Cubs, Sox and MLB pitching but it's just too painful. Always takes a few weeks after the NHL playoffs before I can put much thought into baseball since the Cubs are in full rebuild...it's just so bad. I think the White Sox are on pace to be the worst team on the Southside I've seen in my lifetime, not their record, just how they play. As a Cubs fan, that's somewhat satisfying but it's still painful to watch.

 

they are both brutal. Williams has made so many bad moves over the years. i love Adam Dunn but its become apparent that hes a NL player for whatever reason, some guys are just better in a different league. letting buerhle go was dumb, Rois was a huge gamble. their outfield defensively is comedy at its finest. De Aza is a joke. Beckham never developed, I could go on and on. atleast you got the Hawks

thats been an abortion from the get go - its been time to move them for a while now. this shouldnt be a constant struggle every year. one of the many horrible expansion ideas

I would love to hear what Gary says before the vote.

 

TB has been stable for more than 20 years.
Florida has been relatively stable for 20 years
Anaheim has been stable for 20 years
SJ has been stable for 20 years.
Nashville and CLB aren't moving anytime soon
Carolina is relatively stable as well
Atlanta and PHX have been the only two problem children that never had an owner that invested in the franchise.

Winnepeg, Minnesota, Cleveland, Kansas City, Denver, Oakland, Quebec, Harford, etc. There have been far more bad and failed ideas in the 25 years prior to Bettman's arrival. Hartford, Minnesota, WPG, and Que were all doomed long before Gary had any chance to fix things.

The last 20 years have been better for competition and quality of play compared to the 25 years previous. There were so many terrible and dead franchises, it was ridiculous Outside of a few franchises, I don't think the on-ice product was very good despite the romanticizing about the past that never was.

I'm hoping you were referring to Gary, Cutter. Got my wheels turning again. I'm almost ready for our semiannual battle of Gary.

 

Winnipeg and Minnesota were such failures that they got another team. Tampa and Florida are not stable, Tampa had a little uptick witht the bandwagoners after they won the Cup but it was fleeting. Florida, Columbus, Anaheim and Phoenix all in the bottom 8 for attendance. Tampa actually has had decent attendance and the ownership is more stable but Im not sold there. Karmanos and Carolina are having trouble also. all Hartford needed was a new arena IMO. Quebec also shouldve never lost their team, the minor league hockey team there sells out continuously and the fanbase is solid. k gloves are off

 

Ill give you this although this wasnt Bettmans idea(just like Tampa wasnt) San Jose I dont mind having a team they have a very good fanbase and always have. I also like the Nashville team, same for the fanbase there. very loyal and considering theyve never been a big player in any FA season they put out a good product and Trotz (although this is an exception not the rule to me) is a good coach.they have a well run program there, especially drafting

bob has apparently forgotten the first rule of blaming gary:

everything is gary's fault. the fact that something happened before, or even long before, he took the job does not exonerate him - if anything, it makes him MOAR guilty.

pretty much everyone despised colin campbell as head of discipline. tons of them managed to convince themselves that no matter who replaced him it HAD to be better. now all those people despise shanahan instead.

I've said for at least 2 years now that until the NHL standardizes suspensions for head shots and tighten thing up considerably people will continue to hate anybody in charge of discipline. To me a head shot is a head shot and should be punished as such, end of story. To suspend one player and not suspend another for exactly the same hit because one hit resulted in an injury but the other didn't is just stupid. To try and determine "intent" is really, REALLY STOOPID because nobody can read another person's mind. I even used caps to prove that I'm right about what I just said !!!!!! To say a "repeat" offender can screw up but only be fined the 2nd time after they were suspended the first time around just because they didn't hurt anybody this time is really, really DUMB !!!!! The solution for head shots? Here it is. 1st offence: 20 games. 2nd - 40 games. 3rd 82 games. 4th - lifetime suspension. I bet if those were the penalties the high hits would almost disappear in a flash. Players don't like losing anything from 1/4 to 100 percent of their pay.

As for the commissioner, in my opinion that's one of the biggest jokes out there. Until fans of at least one sport love at least one current commissioner I won't take anybody seriously when they say Bettman sucks. How can it be possible that Bettman sucks, Stern sucks and Goodell sucks too ??? They ALL suck? LOL C'mon..... People say Bettman sucks and is the reason for the lockouts and the game not growing in the U.S as much as it should have by now. But people also say Goodell sucks when the league he's in charge of has grown exponentially world wide and the profits have been threw the roof. Yet Goodell gets zero credit for that too. So Bettman sucks because the NHL isn't profitable and Goodell sucks even though his league IS profitable. Go figure....

 

Bob that was a lot of wasted typing and wear and tear on your fingers cuz Bettman haters will never change their tune.

And......Ahhhhhh Cutter. You know I think you're a great guy ( even though you wanted to pull an Aaron Hernandez on me years ago) but I think you and all the Bettman haters go to far blaming the guy for things he has no control over and never give him any credit for what has gone right.

 

yep Shore shouldve went after Horner instead. Shanny shoudlve come down hard there. still suprised that with the 5 refs and 14 linesman that SHore was actually able to get to him. 9 times outta 10 fights never happen because they get tied up immediately even if a player gives someone the evil eye. even more shockingly was the nerve of Shore doing something like this in light of the fact that theres an instigator penalty. good thing the league still to this day lets the players police themselves, if it had some kind of pansy rules in place it wouldnt have allowed Horner to kick Shores ass afterwards
