As did I. As awful as that defense is, Jones would've been a great addition from day one. Ah, well. Like every other year, here's to hoping.

  2. sabres with the best name so far. gonna be hard to beat Rasmus Ristolainen.

Looking forward to Bo Horvat bobblehead night, winter of 2017. I wonder if Gillis can trade Edler for a 1st and Ballard for a 8th rounder?

  4. I look at it this way. is Barkov gonna be awesome - maybe, is Jones gonnna be awesome, I have my doubts. he'll be solid and the Panthers couldve used help on defense but when you pick that high you take the best available. I think wehen its all said and done. and although I dont think much of Tallon, Im willing to bet Barkov will do pretty damn good. lets not forget he got who I thought was an awesome pick at 3 with huberdeau. that guy is the real deal. he may be the gem of that draft. the Lightning arent exactly great on d but everyone keeps pointing out the Panthers. maybe....just maybe, Jones isnt what everyone thinks he is

  5. Although his health may be a concern ( he's been a 65 game player the last couple years) I'll 65 games plus a playoff season from Vinny over 82 games from Weiss or some other overpaid free agent. At least with Vinny I can say that IF he stays healthy he'll earn his salary. In my opinion Weiss isn't even capable of legitimately earning 6.5 to 7 million per season long term

Bob I like and agree with what you have to say a lot of the time, but in my opinion players as talented as Vinny don't come along very often. The problem is I don't think Detroit will be able to afford him.... I think he's going to get an eye popping unbelievable deal we'll talk about on here for a couple pages.

Edler to Chicago for Bolland and Frolik?

  7. Gillis is an idiot. A year ago it was practically confirmed that Gillis could have had Kadri and more for LUONGO.

So now he gets a 9th overall pick who may or may not accomplish anything for the younger and cheaper Cory Schneider.

I know Kadri hadn't done anything at the NHL level yet at the time of the trade offer but he was still an excellent 21 year old player in the AHL who showed tremendous potential.

I give Gillis is a huge F on this one.......

Lou deserves a huge A+ for this trade. No, Schneider hasn't proved that he can be a great NHL goalie yet but his talent and accomplishments to this point far exceed anything the 9th overall pick has accomplished.

  8. LOL Bob I get this feeling you would make this trade in a New York second. I'm not so sure Bowman is nearly as interested in making that trade as you are though. I think the Hawks like Bolland a lot. Maybe I'm wrong... you're closer to the Hawks then I am and follow them more closely but something tells me Bolland isn't going anywhere.

  9. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I'm a big LeCavalier fan, I'm also a big Richards fan, but they are among a small group of big time players where you actually see their decline. It's been rapid and has accelerated the last couple years. I still want LeCavalier as a number 2 in Chicago, or Richards, but it just would take too much away from other parts of the team. I'm glad Bowman is out of the Vinny sweepstakes because of the unaffordable contract for Chicago.

I also think Detroit can all too easily afford LeCavalier's demands.

I think he's an excellent pickup as a number 2 center, but I think he's about as likely as anybody to fall apart in a couple years. Too many rough miles and too abrasive a game.

  10. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

If Bowman moves him now, he loses leverage retaining Leddy and Bickell and whichever other player he's considering.
With all the new forwards bought out, the soft market for Bolland has softened further.

If the cap is in the way, Bolland will be dumped, otherwise he's not going anywhere. He was bumped to the 4th line. Since the Hawks will be looking to rookies at center next year, they'll want him around for the postseason, but he's going to be dead weight until then. I think if anybody offers a first or mid second+, Bowman doesn't hesitate to say yes. Bolland hasn't been anything special in years.

Hmmm, Blackhawks pick, the goalie...Petan (I like this guy although a smurf)...I think Petan

  12. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I agree Redwings, A+ for Lou. The best chance at a long time goalie.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I think Bowman picks a large N. American forward with soft hands and issues skating.

  14. allow me, bob.

    IGWT!

    lol - yes there was.

  15. rediiis Guest

If the Hawks traded Frolik for Shroeder...shroeder/petan/kane...could fit all 3 in a glove box.

  16. rediiis Guest

Hawks get another pest for Rock Island.

  17. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Not what I was expecting for Bowman.

  18. well our pick atleast has some size. gonna have to research this guy a little

  19. rediiis Guest

Hockeybob is dancing a jig. Nice score for Bolland. *BRAVO*

And that's why I'm okay with the pick, for now - best available. If they truly thought he was the best on the board, then they made the right pick. But I equally have my doubts about Barkov.
Huberdeau is already the gem of the draft, so far. If Barkov ends up being anything like him, we'll be in for a treat.
