They took the best ILB in the draft which they needed.
The took a good NT which matched BPA and need.
They Took one of the better Safeties in the draft at the timewas BPA to match need.
I think they pretty much took BPA that fill needs to win now and in the future.

The Steelers drafted what could be the 2nd best ILB solely because of speed, much like the Raiders of OLD.
Took a RB solely because of speed much like the Raiders of old and about 2 or 3 rounds too early.
I'm on board with Tuitt because of BPA meets need and 3-4 DL dont have to be great just solid.

I dont hate Colbert or Tomlin as a matter of fact I think ( if he actually makes these decisions ) Tomlin
was smart by surrounding him self with the coaches he did. All former HC's. That says he set pride aside and
did whats best for the team.
Colbert just isnt the same at drafting without Cowher. Sorry I know some of you will disagree with that but it's the truth.

    I'd also like to say:

Timmy Jernigan flat-out isn't a fit for Pittsburgh.
    We don't need a safety.
    You covet Crocket Gilmore? Really?

4 TDs in 18 career kickoff returns. Why only 18? Because teams kicked away from him.

40 TDs in just about 450 touches in college. That is a TD every ELEVENTH time he touches the ball! Say what we want about where he was taken, the kid makes plays.

As for helping themselves, I think they have definitely helped themselves on the defensive side of the ball. They have gotten younger, faster and stronger on defense this offseason. Shazier paired with Timmons is a very exciting prospect to me. Tuitt has the ability to be a starter day 1.

On offense, I don't think they have many holes to fill, so taking a specialty player like Archer maybe makes a bit of sense, but I honestly would have preferred they had taken another position of greater need.

    +100

I can see the argument for Mosely over Shazier, but I think only time will tell which team got that one right. There's no question, to me, that the Steelers took the right guy on the DL in Tuitt. Jernigan is can be a beast, but he's not the right fit for the Steelers. The Ravens are a bit more flexible in how they play their DL, so they will find a way to use him and he should be successful there, but I like Tuitt for the Steelers.

What makes you think that Shazier won't be better than Mosley? Its not like he's bigger than Shazier (6'2" 234 lbs to Shaz at 6'1" 237 lbs). He's certainly not faster than Shazier. He didn't have more production than Shazier. He's not the leader on the field that Shazier is...what, exactly, makes him better in your eyes?

Again I'm good with the Tuitt pick.

I do think the Steelers need a big NT now that they dont have any size inside.
All teams have to do is put a FB to pave the way and the Steelers Safeties will have to come up
closer to the line to help which makes them no better than they were last year.IMO

That's just it though. Best ILB according to who? Shazier was listed as OLB but he clearly will not play there for the Steelers. If Shaz had ILB beside his name instead of OLB he may have been the highest ranked player.

As you already said, Tuitt was definitely BPA that addressed need, so at worst this is a tie. Jernigan is a physical specimen who is really rough around the edges so he isn't a lock by any means. But he will probably be a really good player.

In the third round I'm with you on Archer disappointing. But the draft isn't over, and the Steelers have a 4th and two 5th coming. Let's see what they do there because right now everyone has talent to choose from. Later it becomes much more difficult to pick out the real diamonds.

Jernigan takes plays off watch total games, not just YouTube Highlights. BUt he has violent hands and can be disruptive. He is a quicker Ziggy Hood but nowhere near as strong. He is a 3 technique that was off my board because we learned with Hood, these guys do not produce or equate well to the Defense the Steelers run.

I think The Ravens are doing well,, Crokett Gilmore made himself a lot of money at the Senior Bowl. Then again so didn't Christian Ponder, time will tell if he was the best TE after Fiedorowicz.

My golden boy is still on the board. He's capable of playing any position on our line if we ask him to. I'm very surprised he's still there, to be honest. He should've gone late 2nd-early 3rd.

I agree there are a few good players left to draft, I have my fingers crossed without mentioning players.

55 minutes until the Texans are on the clock again. For 2015 I do not expect more or hopefully less partiicipation. But I will suggest we start a board after the Senior Bowl and tweak it. I might also suggest we start a new thread called I want this guy, we have to have a better way to track players we spot during the fall and Bowl Season. Roc sent me a message on Facebook, I will be darned if I can find it, he had a TE he really liked. I think it might have been the kid out of Fresno State, but I just read it in passing.

I'll be more involved next year now that college is finally behind me. Good timing, too, next year should be a really deep class.

I really did enjoy all this and watching tape and talking draft on your own when i got the time is not that fun, hopefully i can reprise my role next year and take a more invested position, as well as hopefully taking a look at my beloved D lineman and line backers.

I think you guys should watch this, its very interesting, especcially the part about BPA and how the D just kept falling to the ravens even though there is a lot of O talent depth

OFF topic, does anyone have a plan for food today, I actually ran out of chips last night and ran into the store to buy 4 bags, this is a lot oh hours of Christmas to get through. I will stay until the end, ,because I will then look at the scrap pile and hopefully we can figure out which UDFA make sense.

I only have one kicker on our board, I am telling you now, forget avg. forget net, forget all that bullsquat. Find me a guy who kicks it over 40 yards,, with the occasional boomer, who consistently puts the ball inside the ten yard line. That my Steeler Friends is the guy I want behind the long snapper on 4th and a mile.

We tried the diminutive KR guy twice before, both eventually cut. (Logan, Rainey) I hope the 3rd time is the charm.

  16. NY, I have to disagree....TJ is very strong and is relentless. I will agree he is a better fit in a 4-3 scheme but when FSU hired Pruitt they became more multiple so I guess he culd play in any scheme.

    Sadly I graduated College in 1981 :!

I wouldn't be upset at all if we actually do get a punter worth his salt today. Adam Podlesh won't cut it, and I'm frankly getting tired of seeing these guys cycle in and out like Taylor Swift's boyfriends.

Is the P from Auburn on your board?

  19. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I figured you would defend a FSU player, I get it. But Ziggy Hood is one of the strongest men in the NFL and more disciplined coming into the Leauge. Jernigan has a twitch, violence, but is a slower version of Aaron Donald,, with a little more size. Where he he was taken I think that was value, I just don't see him eating up space to free up the LB. Time will tell I don't hate the kid, but nobody is going to tell me he has anywhere near the motor Donald has. That was also the knock on Haggeman, glad we got Tuitt, that foot injury is behind him and I think the Steelers truely took BPA on most boards.
