    Morning..

Stopped watching TV after the Pens got spanked... disgusted

Tuitt - I like the pick - player sometimes not int he best of shape - and wears down.. the stength and conditioning coach is going to need to get on his ass.. but he is good..

Archer - Not wild about this one - Toad Haley pick.. panic after McKinnon was picked right in front of them maybe? a Sproles like player.. I think back to games we played vs a team with Sproles on it and was he productive vs a good defensive team? no.. could have waited for him .. and if he would have been gone.. could have cared less.. Time will tell if they blew this pick or not

Was surprised to see Bromley go 3rd round.. I figured later - but loved him in the Shrine game..

Watch #76 today - he came in for a visit.. Would not be surprised if he ends up in black and gold today..

    enjoy,

    one of the idiots

Short list for round 4 today for me are:

    37 - visited
    61 - no visit
    76 - visited
    79 - visited

I think its very telling at this point in the draft whether a player was in for a visit with the Steelers. Through the rest of the draft, they will be taking kids that they not only like their talent, they will want them to have a certain attitude and much of that is gleaned from interviews and visits.

That said, I really think they grab their CB in this round if there is even remote value there.

I was so deflated by Dri Archer last night I didn't even comment and just went to bed. I didn't even think he was a possibility. It's not a terrible pick, but he'd better put up huge kick return numbers.

I hope he counts as a RB on our roster. We certainly don't have anyone else like Archer on the team.

Man!!! I'm so jealous of the Ravens draft. :(

  9. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

Here is why I am on the sour side of the Dri Archer pick.

He was not BPA on any board but theirs, it's a reach IMFHO.

We are not privileged to the inteview process, he probably blew them away

I don't even think McKinnon would have been value at 97, not in this draft.

We still have an area of depth and age to address, which is why I would say my targets would be 65 72 79 82 I would be okay with any of those players at 116 because it was not a reach. The one positive thing, at least I had him on the board. After the intital shock wore off, I guess if I had him at 88 and he went 97, then I am beating myself up for nothing. Back in 2010 beach had to talk e down off the ledge. I was way off, I mean I got almost nothing right starting with the Pouncey pick.

So if you look at the board, it's no better or worse than the draft sites that devote a lot more time and effort than we do, and they do it for a living. That board had Sia'-Filo as BPA at the start of the night and he went Bang right away. The next palyer on the board went quick too, Rasheed Haggeman. Then when we were up TUitt was at the top.

I see a trend of teams evaluating and reaching for OL help, I feel a lot of these guys are marginal and reaches. The way things went down, teams taking 6th round guards and tackles 3 rounds early, tells me that the trenches are being taken seriously by each team.

With that said if the Steelers take 62 or 70 then I would not put a Glock to my forehead. At least those are Offensive Lineman rated in the 4th round.

Worst draft so far: Giants and Patriots and holy batcrap, it seems like every pick Washington made was a Center, Guard, or Tackle. NFL network cannot slam the teams too bad for stinking up the draft, basically that team is 1/32 of their employer put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I will say though, that trading up for Shamarko Thomas is biting us in the ass like a Great White. Go back to where we should have been picking, and still available were: Donte Mocrief and Phillip Gaines. Gaines is a project, with tremendoud upside, and probably a better peospect than Curtis Brown. Moncreif was treendoud value in the middle of the third, class this missed.

  10. rarebreedsj Franchise Player Steelers

Does anyone think the Steelers have helped themselves with this draft ?
I'm ok with the Tuitt, he was like ny said BPA, fills a need and is around where you should
draft a 3-4 DL but IDK... SMH.

  11. demolisher43 Franchise Player Steelers

On the flip side of the coin, they were BOTH raw. We're spoiled in Pittsburgh in the sense that we've become used to WRs coming in and making an impact right away lately. There's speculation that Moncrief may barely see the field this year.

As for Gaines, I know he's popular, but he's raw too, and if a WR wouldn't walk in and compete to start immediately, that goes double for any CB that gets picked.

Dri Archer is my least favorite pick so far, but I still see the rationale behind it. The Steelers clearly don't think much of Reggie Dunn, and Tomlin doesn't like giving a roster spot to a pure kick returner. They're hoping Archer can be a gadget player on offense in addition to being the guy who can finally relieve Brown of his punt-returning duties. If nothing else, this isn't Chris Rainey 2.0 because Archer is better than Rainey was, and few teams in the NFL even have a single guy who can touch his other-worldly speed.

EDIT: Here's what happens when Archer finds a seam on a kick return.

Very much. Shazier and Tuitt were great picks. It'll take some time for me to warm up to Dri Archer, but I'm hoping he proves his worth anyway.

I think the Rams are having one of the best drafts so far......Archer might not help the Steelers get an A+ from Prisco on CBS.....So now I'm really worried! :D

    I like 65, 61, 72, 79 in that group
In the other group 76 and 111

And 53 is still lurking out there somewhere...

  16. LoveTheSteelers Franchise Player Steelers

Yes. Not every pick will be great, but Shazier fills a need and is a great athlete with unreal production in a major conference. He is your day 1 starter unless the new guy Moats surprises.

Tuitt is a physical specimen at his size, and with some coaching he can be a high impact player beginning year #2. He may or may not start this year but should see lots of snaps.

Archer? I do like the kid but not this early. Geez, what a reach.

As far as loving Baltimore's draft, they took ILB, DT, and S. They are off by 1 position from what the Steelers did after three rounds, so the hatred you show for Tomlin and Colbert are the only reason you don't like the picks so far. You are really blind to what they are doing just because of your personal feelings about them.

Yea they helped themselves ,but to wait 50 picks for a Todd Haley toy that will be in 10 playes again, not value, no way no how. If he returns a few kicks for huge gains or TD's then I'll shut my yapper

As someone said on here, "It's pretty hard to return kicks now" Most go out of the end zone. They will probably try to use him like Sproles. Theres no physicality there though. I think you try get get better physical players in rounds 1 through 4......

Bites, we talked about inside linebacker being a need and I think we were right?

  20. I posted this earlier and 100% believe it, but when players like his step on the field the defense has to think "alert" cause in a blink he culd b gone....therefore that can take the attention off players like Brown, Miller, Moore and Bell. In the return game, he is a threat every time so punters may shank a punt for positive field shape, a player may get out of their lane and allow a huge gap etc. Here's a name Pitt fans will remember that caused headaches.....Eric Metcalf. He was a playmaker and a threat each time he touched the ball and Archer will b that same type of player
