Whats a forum without a little Doom and Gloom : )

The Ravens getting Dumervil is going to make life a little difficult for Ben. The need to keep upgrading the OL has just became more important. Hopefully Cooper will be there so he can help Gilbert or Adams protect Ben.

Anyway thanks for the invite ,happy to be here.

Okay I'm here. Looks a little desolate around here. Maybe we will be pioneers!!

    re: Draft

I'm still pining for Tavon Austin. I know it's not a traditional selection but the game is won with weapons. Heck I wouldn't mind back-to-back WRs if the right guys were there!

But beach if he doesn't have the protection/time to get the ball to those WR's is it going to matter much who he throws the ball to.

Not saying Beachum, or foster can't do the job, but I see Cooper winning that job and starting day 1, and then we have some descent backup in Beachum and Foster, who both can play multiple positions.

Alright who told this guy about this site ;)

I certainly won't complain if they take Cooper but I don't think they signed Foster to be a backup. They have confidence in him.

If he was just a little bigger beach I'd bring another drum to the band but I do worry about his ability to stay alive (even with the league getting a little 'friendlier').

It's definitely a factor but as he says, he's never missed a game. He seems to have a knack for avoiding the big hit.

Beach do you think Austin has improved his stock that much in which he would be considered a mid 1st round pick? I know he was projected late first before the combine.

Thanks for the invite, steelroc. I don't do the research you guys do for the draft, but I always read your posts, and follow everything draft. From a Mountaineer fan, I think you might get more for your money by getting Steadman Bailey in the 3rd round than Austin in the first. You don't really expect Austin to make all those 80 yd plays against NFL competition do you?

    Thanks for the invite steelroc.

Tavon Austin reminds me a bit of Mike Wallace. A speed WR from a non-power school. Wallace was pretty humble his first 2 1/2 years in the league and then suddenly his head got big quickly. I'm not saying that Austin is the same type of person, but no thanks on a one trick pony in the first round.

I'm sure Austin will be a good WR but should he tweek an ankle the Steelers will be paying 1st round money to a little reciever with average speed.
There is quite a few better than average WR in this draft. I like Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State, some of the other guys like Stedman Bailey and DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson.

Average speed? Tavon Austin? Nah. He would be one of the 6-7 fastest players in the NFL, with possibly the quickest acceleration.
That said, I agree you would be taking a big chance using a first round pick on a smallish receiver, when other positions need to be addressed.

Do you see Austin as that kind of player or more as a complimentary piece?

I'm pretty intriqued by the 21 carry, 344 yard running performance. He didn't just get it in space. He got it inside the 10 and made a LB just totally whiff in the backfield. I'm sure he'll get popped eventually but very few guys get hits on him. Didn't like some of the extracurricular stuff but it's the way of the NFL. You can't eliminate players from your board for showboating.

What I was saying those guys ( 1 trick pony's) if he were to tweek an ankle or get a knee injury he wouldn't be worth much for the rest of his contract. The Big Ugly's can come back from a knee or ankle and still be on top of their game.

I have no problem with drafting this player or any other like him, just not in 1st round.
Like I said before I think he will be a good NFL WR and the Steelers could use a Wallace replacement.

Thanks Jason, most all of us are from another forum that is going downhill really fast, so we decided to look elsewhere and found your forum. So thanks for having us.

  19. What's up folks! Thank for the invite steelroc.

I don't post too terribly much over on cbs(am I allowed to say them or is there a swear jar?) but do a lot of reading. For those who don't know much about me I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. I'm currently student at the University of Missouri and am a Mizzou Tigers fan before all other sports. When I was born there was no NFL team in St. Louis so I adopted the team who's jersey's looked the most the Mizzou's when I was little and have been a Steelers fan ever since. I do root for the Penguins but am a Blues fan first and the Cardinals are my only baseball team. Looking forward to talking sports with all of you!

Back on topic, as ironman I'm also really high on Bell. The first time I saw him play he reminded me a lot of Steven Jackson. I wouldn't mind using a 2nd on him but wouldn't be upset if they passed on him. The Steelers need to identify 1 back and let him carry the majority of the load. Dwyer can be that back in my mind.
