I have a feeling, depending on the health of Watt, that we will play ourselves just outside of the top ten picks. I see at least 6 wins, more likely 7 and picking around 11-15 in the draft We have a much easier schedule the last 9 games. Saints Falcons Panthers Colts Ravens x 2 Bengals Browns Raiders The Steelers could honestly run this schedule if Watt plays on fire and Pickett figures it out. Make Warren the starter and our running game could pick up. Not saying it will happen but if isn’t a pipe dream either. The ravens are the toughest team on the schedule and I believe we have won 4 straight against them.
On paper, there's winnable games there. We'll see. Sometimes I waver between hoping they get a top 3 pick or hoping they turn it around and win a few. In the end, if they draft right, they have an opportunity to draft well. Three picks in the first two rounds is a real bonus.
I want a player like DT Carter from Georgia , I just don’t see the Steelers being bad enough to pick him. We would have to trade up to get him. Tomlin is going to go crazy trying to make sure that we don’t pick in the top ten. Texans Bears Packers Jaguars Cardinals Rams Lions Panthers Browns Colts Raiders Broncos Saints Steelers These are the teams that are in competition for top ten picks . None of them have more than three wins. A lot of them are having serious injury issues. We are actually getting healthy now with Watt coming back. If we stay healthy we won’t finish bottom ten out of these 14 teams. Tomlin is too good of a coach to let this team pick lower than 11th. We play five on this list still. We play three games against teams in first place in their divisions. Ravens twice Falcons One team in the wildcard/division race Bengals We have to finish with a top five pick to get Carter. I don’t see that happening. Tomlin will have this team fighting even if we are eliminated from the playoffs. The last season we were eliminated from the playoffs was 2006 before we got to the last game of the season. We still fought hard to beat the Ravens that’s the Steelers way. We ran a fake punt in the game for a 90 yard Touchdown to scare the crap out of them. We tried to stop Jamal Lewis from getting 2000 yards but failed to do it and lost by one score. We still played punishing football until the last whistle of the season. That’s why fans of the Steelers are fans of the Steelers, because the Steelers don’t quit.
Steelers Depot has an article you should read. Basically Florio said there are grumbling that their 20 million dollar pro bowl RB dances too much. Watt is a generational player they are going to win 6 games. There are 3 DL players in the draft worthy of a top 15 pick but it falls off after that. Always look at depth Ed up fwhen drafting. Steelers traded up for Coughclough in 2004 because the their CB board was thinning out. But they missed out because they left too big a gap between pick 75 Max Starks and A LB who never even made the team at pick 145. Had they held their ground Keion Ratliff was available and Bob Sanders was taken by the Colts in their 2nd round spot. In the 4th round the pick they gave to the Colts, notable players available : Jericho Cotchery, Nathan Vasher, Jared Allen.
I read it after I started this thread. I really believe mainstream media has dropped the ball when it comes to the Steelers second half of the season. Our schedule is easier and we are healthy heading into the last nine games.
The Steelers are currently ranked at #3 on the waiver wire list and the Chargers just released, DL Jerry Tillery, so should the Steelers consider going after him?
