Thank you for creating this new board Tim, I really appreciate it! I'm always curious about what people do in their down time for stress relief or to challenge themselves. I just named a few things in the title but I invite anyone to add whatever their specialty of favourite workout is as well. I teach yoga, tai chi and qigong for a living. I'm also a big nature enthusiast and I hike, run, snowshoe and x cross country ski almost everyday. What do you do to stay in shape and to work off stress?
Good thread BF. *THUMBSUP* I still lift some weights, hike and ride the bike but my favorite way to grind it up is still hitting the heavy bag and speed bag.
Oh boxing huh? Yeah that's a great way to work up some sweat and speed. My husband used to box quite a bit and I did a lot of kick-boxing when I was at university. I love riding my bike. I do this crazy ride in the summer that's about (takes a minute to figure out how to translate kilometres to miles) 15-20 miles long and by the time I'm done I'm really done (exhausted) ... so I ride the bike straight over to a friend's lake and I ride as fast as I can towards the shore and try to jump off my bike and land in the water at full speed. This invariably doesn't work out the way I think it will but it's usually a lot of fun. And painful.
Just joined a gym - tonight's my first time back in a dozen years or so. Weight-lifting will be primary; also want to do some cardio (swimming, bike class) and maybe some yoga.
12 oz curls & a finger rolling routine. As soon as I finish my finger rolling routine I do my cardio routine. Sometimes I do squats during the cardio which increases the effectiveness of the cardio and finger rolling routines.
Wow Axe, that's awesome!! I've been a gym rat for years but in the last 5 years I've concentrated more on martial arts/disciplines. That's what I do for a living, teaching yoga, tai chi and qigong. I love that you're considering doing yoga. Yoga gives you enormous bang for your buck, because everything you're talking about doing (strength-training and cardio) will work better for you and you'll see greater and faster results from if you do a regular stretching routine, which is essentially what yoga is. I hope you have a blast at the gym and don't forget to warm up really well before you do anything too craaaaazy!
LOL Gidion. You're absolutely crazy ... that's funny. I knew it was just a matter of time before someone brought up doing those famous 12 oz curls ... although the finger rolling routine is a bit original. Are you doing the squats to pick up your weights? LOL God you'd be funny in a gym ...
That's just what it says on the bottle. And I was too drunk at the time to convert 750ml to 25.4 ounces.
Bloody hell. I can't even convert that without looking it up. So now tell 'us' what you do to work out Bww. In detail coz it's interesting.
shape - walk 4 miles a night when the weather gets nice. i try and get 5 - 6 nights a week after work and on weekends. i drink lots of water too. will try and break in some exercises after the walking at home. crunches and stuff. stress - i write my own screenplays as a hobby, so although it's work, it calms me down creating characters, scenes, locations and dialogue.
I'm a big fan of walking and running too. Because our snow is so deep it means I'm only walking about 3 miles each day but it's a lot more work than when I'm out on a clear road, that's for sure. Walking is one of the best moving meditations that I know of (except maybe for a tai chi Moy set) which gives you the stretching and moving that your body needs as well as the calm that your mind needs. Writing is a great way to get things into perspective, that's really cool that you write screenplays! Is it potentially a source of income for you?
This isn't exactly very detailed ... but you certainly get your point across. Do you consider the eating of bacon as part of your workout? Maybe I should modify mine to include that I eat Kale ...
You're just as horrible off the Bears board as you are on it. So here's something new ... Yesterday in my yoga class I introduced the idea of doing handstands to my clients. They all tried it and succeeded but they need to continue working on their upper body strength. When I did my handstands to demonstrate I actually did a pushup and put my forehead on the floor. No one was able to do that but I promised them that they will ... someday.
my dream is for one of my 7 screenplays or the 5 more i want to write gets discovered and made into a movie. i watch a ton of movies via netflix and the 98% of the majority suck and i can't believe they get made. i have original ideas and screenplays. i only wish i get discovered for my writing to make some cash!
i once met a person who didn't like bacon and it wasn't a religious or health thing. he just didn't like it. i looked at him like he was an alien! bacon is one of the greatest things on this planet.
That's pretty amazing. I wish you the best of luck with this. I have to admit that I find it difficult to even watch half of the stuff on Netflix or tv. I love a good movie, something that has the power to steal me away just like a good book will. That just doesn't seem to happen very often.
