I like everything I have read or seen of them on the internet. I believe this time we got it right with our future QB. I can see our offense getting better when Rudolph is ready to take over. I want him to be the number two this season. I know he is better than Landry.

encouraging news indeed sk. I believe James will absolutely improve in the first of his pro years with Ben throwing to him. He'll get that 1st class learning curve from a true all-pro QB. Ben may be a dick off the field but on, well, he's as good as we've ever seen in black and gold and Washington should reap the benefits.

here's another gem on Rudolph and Washington. I hope this continues well in to both their careers ...

I think we may still see Landry as the #2 for one more year. Rudolph will have to be really good in the preseason to get the #2 spot.

It will be really tall order, especially since they do not have a QB coach. I doubt Fichtner will be able handle the double duties of being the QB coach as well as the OC. They will probably keep Jones to help Rudolph with the playbook and get him up to speed.

If Rudolph can’t beat out Jones, then maybe we picked the wrong QB.

Not necessarily. The Steelers tend to like their backup to be a veteran. To me that means if Ben goes down in game, Jones comes in to manage the rest of the game. Does not guarantee that he'd be starting the next week.

In Ben’s rookie year did they have a clear #2 behind Maddox before they drafted Ben?

Charlie Batch was the back up, but he got injured and placed on IR.

Perhaps we solved the riddle, so it seems like Ben was slated to be the #3 to start the season but moved to #2 on the Batch Injury. And if I remember correctly Ben was pretty good in the preseason his rookie year. I remember being excited that we finally have a franchise QB but would have to wait a couple of years. I feel the same about Rudolph, we’ll see how he looks in the preseason. As for Dobbs based on what I saw last preseason he’s not the answer. He was more terrible than he was good.

Yet one or two were just truly convinced of Dobbs greatness

I disagree (knowing this is a bold statement)

I think regardless of what they appear to be doing, Rudolph is the heir apparent and already firmly cemented as the #2 in reality. But they may pretend Jones is the 2 for a little while

The opening day depth chart will have Jones as the #2 unless he is injured or Rudolph has the greatest camp and preseason in the history of the Steelers. Like I said in an earlier post, they want a veteran coming of the bench to manage the game in the event of Ben going down. They would likely look really hard at Rudolph starting the next game if Ben couldn't go. I get this line of thinking and it is a fairly safe way to go into the season, and it could start to change the further into the season they go, depending on they see in practice. There is also the slim chance that Jones is traded, but I highly doubt it at this point unless they are offered a 4th round pick which won't happen. With no QB coach, I suspect most of the mentoring of Rudolph will be done by Jones.

And I am one of those who thinks Dobbs could be a decent player in this league, but I am also aware was done as a Steeler the moment Rudolph was drafted, again provided the other QBs end the preseason healthy. They might put him on the PS if he clears waivers, but then you have 4 QBs at practice. Unless you really think the rugby player can turn into a competent football player, it seems like a waste of a PS spot to keep Dobbs. Sad because he did improve with each game, and his mobility added something that none of the other QBs had. But the only chance he has is to beat out Jones on the field and prove he knows the playbook at least as well as Jones, or to have Jones get hurt bad enough to be put on IR.

I agree with everything you said here except that Dobbs can be a good player in this league.
