http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/stor...go-cubs-fire-manager-rick-renteria-one-season Obviously this has been in the works a week. But no more Ricky. Best of luck to him.
Ricky did nothing to lose his job, but its what is best for the organization. Maddon has a proven track record and is one the best coaches in the league. I wish Ricky all the best. Theo said its best. Im paraphrasing. You can be loyal to a person or you can be loyal to the organization and whats best for it and they believe Maddon is best for the organization. For the Cubs to win, no one man is bigger then the organization.
For as critical as I've been of Epstein, and trust me--there's likely more to come when some of these prospects start busting--smart move. And to all these jag offs saying 'its classless,' notice how all of them are Cardinals fans. Shut up. Time for this team to act like a big league club again. Spend some god damn money. Make me believe the worst 3 year stretch of baseball wasn't the most pathetic display ever....... Cant wait for KB to school the kids again on baseball stuff again like the old days now that the 'rebuild' is over. When we all loved Hendry and had a great team. Or are we not supposed to like Hendry? I forget.......
Why is Hendry still being brought up? The guy did his best and fell short. He has nothing to do with the present day Cubs.
I forget you're not a meatball sometimes...... Actually he has much to do with the present day cubs depending on how you look at it.
This is going into year 4 with Theo. Thats like saying Bush is still responsible for all of Obama's actions. I liked Hendry. He was a good GM no matter how people try to spin it. He worked for shitty ownership and got dealt a bad poker hand with the Prior and Wood injuries. He gave it his all. I appreciate the run he had. But, its over. This isnt a Hendry vs. Theo. This is the Cubs. The players will fail or succeed under the new regime. They will get the praise if we win. They will get the blame if we lose. Lets focus on FA. Reports all over are the Cubs are going hard at one of the top pitchers. You wanted action and proven talent. LEts see what unfolds.
Not exactly the euphemism I would use. The actions of one affect the actions of the future would be the one I'd use. Hendry is responsible for much of this team, past and present. No, he's got nothing to do with now. But it seems if I were to bring his name up to any cub fan, the reaction would be quite salty. Only the first part. The only person I've seen slander Theo in Chicago is Steve Rosenbloom. Nobody says a bad thing about the cubs front office. Jon Lester and Markakis or Headley. Signing one will dictate the future of Bryant as an OF or 3B. Throw every dime at Kenta Maeda. I hear the NPB team Hiroshima doesn't want to post him, but likely will. From MLBTR, Clubs will get an interesting chance to see Maeda face big leaguers later this winter, as he is slated to throw for the Japanese club that will face a barnstorming roster put together by MLB. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/kenta-maeda
First off a lot of people still blame Bush for Obama's failures. Second a lot of idiots and fanboys STILL blame Hendry for the complete lack of progress to the Cub$ at the major league level and give Theo a pass for it. Now here comes the part where you whine and cry that no one has ever done that when everyone here knows it is still going on.
Reports also said that the Cub$ were going hard after Pujols, Fielder, Darvish, Tanaka and Sanchez. Now whine and cry some more because I and others won't be dumb enough to get excited about reports until an actual quality signing unfolds. And no, a manager does not count as a quality signing.
It doesn't? Considering that Bochy, LaRussa, Francona, Torre, and Scoscia account for about 90% of the most recent WS victories, I'd say it does. Bet you'd be doing backflips if it was Buck Showalter though? Pat says it's GOOD signing. Salami, me, Silence, and plenty of others. Must be literally impossible for that four letter word to come out of your mouth..........Ebenezer. :-*
I didn't use to feel that way, but other than obvious pitching needs, Headley would be a fabulous signing to me. Not that Markakis wouldn't. I feel Bryant might be destined for the outfield anyways, and Headley should have quite a few years left in him and would seem to work well in the 2-hole, as would Nick.
Let it go, you know what he is and there is to much good things going on to worry about it. Lets focus on FA.
But you have said that all these teams have won WS because of their farm systems. Now it is because of the managers?? Which is it?? I am having a hard time keeping up with the moving goalposts. Heck Maddon isn't even the best manager the Cub$ have had in the last decade. Lou Piniella is. A manager is only as good as the players he is given. They get WAY too much credit when they win and they get WAY too much blame when they lose.
I will be good with Maddon as manager......at least he has a record of success and the experience a large market team should have as a leader, instead of some inexperienced third world putz with a feel good story. It will be one of the few steps in the right direction by this "braintrust", in my opinion, if he is signed. Too bad something as simple as this needs to happen in offseason number four. Still waiting for the 'great starting pitching depth' that FuckStein claims that he made happen after offseason number one that Hendry couldn't place on the field. Or has it happened and I missed it ?
I haven't moved any goalposts. It is an upgrade. Upgrades are always a good thing. Deal with it, give it its proper respect and move on. Can you do that or does everything have to be like pulling teeth with you? Talk about people with fetishes..."Pot". All the managers listed above have in fact been benefitted GREATLY by what came out of the farm and also what they had in the dugout. Is that too complicated for you Ebenezer? *WALL*
You will look back and say that it was a good thing they did or that it wasn't as bad, especially when they add the complimentary pieces around a team of young kids that averages the age of 25 which is still a couple years away. Saddle up big boy. It's gonna get good.......Real good!
With every single post you have. It is irrelevant. Managers are only as good as the players they are given to manage. You can give the greatest chef in the world spam, raman noodles, salt and pepper and it is still going to taste like spam, raman noodles and salt and pepper. Same with managers. I did by pointing out how overrated managers are and how little impact they actually have on a teams record. But the fanboys could let the facts speak for themselves and had to start quoting from the fanboy handbook about how great and valuable managers are.
A good/great manager does not hurt things at all. Maddon would likely bring some intangibles about the game that these young guys need to improve. This team hasn't had one since Pinella. It will be nice not to have yet another fucking retard directing this team in the dugout. If they can ink Maddon and a couple of premier free agents, things might actually start to get interesting. Still hoping Castro gets dealt this winter. The guy is an idiot.
