I searched through 8 pages but found no suitable Topic to discuss prospects and team pipelines. This got started on the Scores thread recently started. We can discuss anything about future NHLers.

Igloo, you are free to ignore this, but note that "ignore" and "ignorance" do not just sound similar; they're related. ;)

    • Which prospect look to have promising futures, and what teams have strong pipelines (or not)?[/*]
    • How might a team alter decisions based on the strength or weakness of their pipeline?[/*]
    • What resources rate prospects and pipelines? Hockey's Future does this but I sometimes question their methodology and results.[/*]
    • How do the rules governing where prospects may be assigned affect team's personnel and draft decisions? For instance the CHL's control over all prospects under 20.[/*]

its probably a good idea to have a prospects thread. some good ideas there Dan and we can also keep track of McDavid vs. Eichel, look at future prospects, and people can post about their own team's prospects.

I am copying this exchange from the Ditch:

Hockeybob and I have yet to reach a consensus on how Buffalo handled young Samson Reinhart this year. But, this is exactly the type of exchange that prompted me to start it.

forgot about that, id like to chime in on this.

I think its beneficial for Reinhart to get the small lookey lou at NHL life. Even though the team is terrible he sees what a day in the life is like, the way pros are expected to handle themselves, the travel, the nutrition, what to (somewhat) expect from the opposition, etc..

I don't think spending a month on the '14/15 Sabres will hamper him in the long run. The Sabres aren't as contagious as ebola?. are they?

I dunno, the incubation period is three weeks, so perhaps the Sabers will prove to be just as bad.

I don't think anything really negative can come out of giving these kids their 9 game stint, they gain a little experience and then continue with their development, they play in the world juniors and are better for it. I think it's a rare exception for some like a Mckinnon or Skinner, it all depends on what role you're giving them. After it's all said and done after 5 years, the cream should rise to the top, if they survive it shows great mental toughness and the makings of a captain who could provide leadership for years to come.

Goalies and D's are the most fragile when it comes to bringing them up too early. If they're doing good at 24 all is forgotten about those early years, but in these times everything is handled with a conservative approach in most cases, example is starting two different goalies on back to back games.

Justin Bailey, (#52, 2nd in 2013), signed an ELC today with his hometown Buffalo Sabres. He scored a lot for a pretty poor Kitchner club and won't turn 20 until July. He'll be an ideal 3rd or 4th liner if he continues to develop.

He is the son of former Bills LB Carlton Bailey who played with some distinction. Evidentially Carlton had at least one night of distinction with a townie fan. However, Justin hardly knew his father.

    prospect profile

    Andrei Vasilevskiy, G.
    6'3, 204.
    2012 1st round #19, TB.

First goalie taken in 2012 draft. TB is in a good spot here where there's no need to rush him, as of now anyway. Has been very strong playing in the KHL for the past 2 seasons. Was a star for the 2012 Russian WJC team that lost the Gold Medal game to Sweden 4-3 in Calgary. Currently playing for Syracuse in the AHL.
Im worried that this kid will become great and become the best goalie they've had since Khabibulin. Fuck the Lightning and Fuck the dirty Russians. this kid is good though.

his stick reminds me of The Running Man- "Killian, here's your Subzero, now plain zero."

I'm completely against the 9 game stints, especially if they had a full camp. I see too many red flags compared to positive examples. I think switching leagues is to tough on routines for younger players until they're seasoned professionals and I think the wasted time transitioning offsets the value of a few extra shifts at the big level.

I believe good developmental programs slot their players early and get them into a routine more often than not.

Bob, those are interesting thoughts. You haven't convinced me yet, but I appreciate your logic. I wish we had some reports from teams and prospects that could shed more light on this issue.

I also wish that more coherent agreements were in place governing where prospects may play. The NHL, CHL, KHL, and NCAA etc. all have the right to protect themselves, but some of the rules do not serve the best interests of the individual players.

If we both agree, then there's nothing to talk about, I may have gone months more calling Reinhardt a dman too.

I'm trying to tie more together. Unfortunately most of the examples I'm aware of are high end prospects that bombed out hard within franchises that have really been poor at development for various reason so my perspective is probably biased until I have looked closer at more info from more franchises and more gm/pres types.
Hopefully we'll see more coverage on this in the coming years.

jordon subban age 19 of the belleville bulls in 15 games 8 goals, 10 assists...not bad for a little defenseman

I wasn't trying to be ignorant Dan. This is the kind of thread I was talking about. As Mathew pointed out in the 2nd post on this thread.......He is basically copying what I posted before...... :p

First, igloo, that was a goof.
Second, the exchanges on the Scores thread were goofing. Unfortunately they may have gotten out of control a bit. I regret carrying it over to this
Third, matty added points to consider for the Prospect thread; he was not goofing around.
Lastly, goofs and shit happens sometime.

Okay. Whatever. No big deal! :)

Was just thinking about how crappy it would be if McDavid ends up in Florida or Arizona. nothing against the fans of those teams, just that I think the NHL would be missing out on such a great marketing opportunity. Columbus and Carolina to a lesser degree also.

On the other hand, the only place for the league to really continue decent growth is in the smaller US markets. Boston, PHI, NYR, CHI, DET, and LA have more room to stay the same or drop a little as opposed to improving.
