Whew! I need to drink more. That was a hard fought, ugly, game. And we won! Cudo's to Jabril, he gets the game ball. Cudos to Chubb, Duke and the O line, for making the run game stick. Cudos to Freddie for making the adjustment at the half, to emphasize the run, and bail out his QB, from a day when he just wasn't on. Cudos to the recievers who caught everything within reach last night. The questionables. Mayfield was not sharp, especially early. The first TD seemed to influence him to take shots the rest of the half, to the detriment of the team. Freddie calmed him down by making the run game the feature in the second half, and Mayfield settled in, and made some good throws and better decisions after that. Penalties: I'm not sure I agree with the Cousins call (not technically, but having it flagged), but it was a huge momentum change. We should have been off the field, instead Denver goes on to score. Callaway! Dude what are you thinking, or am I giving you too much credit (for thinking). Tackling: Ever heard of it? The open field tacking was piss poor, and looked like a number of our D backs were uninterested in participating. That was the worst of it IMO. The length of time our D was on the field in the first half particularly, worried me, being in the thin air, but they survived, and did much better in the second half when the O started to make some drives, and give them some bench time. Don't recall anyone mentioning it, but it seemed like we "spelled" our D line more than usual. A good strategic move. I'm thrilled that we pulled this one out. Sometimes an ugly win is a very big deal. You aren't playing your best and your opponent is decimated by injuries, but you can't put them away, but you keep grinding, and make a few plays, and walk away with a hard fought W. That's a big deal, for this young team. What did you see?
