so when is the axe falling on the head of gm ruben amaro jr and coach charlie manual? i mean enough is enough already! these two ruined the team with bad deals and catering to old and aging ball players from the 08 WS team. It's Sandberg's time to manage and it's time for a new GM!

How long are they going to keep Darin Ruf down in the minors once Howard comes back? I mean is this another Phillies trend of keeping players down in the minors till their mid-twenties like Utley and Howard? Find a spot for him or trade him then! Don't waste his talents in the minors.

Sad news indeed. Hate to hear about these things. Wish the best for him and his family in this ordeal.

Your Phillies are at .500 and only 6 back. There starting to play better ball. Tough to catch up, but, stranger things have happend. I would count them out just yet.

Good luck the rest of the way, fish. :)

thanks will. there's a few problems though. their bullpen stinks, they just lost their cf for 6-8 weeks, howard is out for 6-8 weeks and i can't see this team beating anyone in the playoffs. even with lee and hamels pitching games 1 and 2. they don't have the firepower or smarts to play smallball to win. they need some major moves but amaro won't do them bc he thinks they're in contention, so he won't do it. this team even at .500 isn't scaring anyone in the nl or al come october. i say - sell, sell, sell! rebuild and contend in 2014 or 2015 and get rid of some of these contracts.

Since mid-September 2011 the Phightins are 138-143. That's more than enough of a sample size to tell me the team is now just middle-of-the-road.

Jettison Papelbon, Rollins, Michael Young, and bring in prospects.

Phils put up a 13-spot in the first game of the series (I believe only the second time all year the Phils scored more than 10 runs in a game), they get a run in the first inning of the second game and what happens...? Cole Hamels promptly gives the Mets 3 runs in the bottom of the first.

    What a momentum killer.

The the Phils get a run back in the 5th, making it 3-2, and Hamels gives it back in the bottom half.

    Brutal. Just brutal.

and how long is he signed for? ugh. terrible year.

  10. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

He's been the victim of some terrible run support, but let's face it -- his ERA is WAY too high, especially for someone considered to be an ace.

Hamels went through almost this exact same thing in 2009, where he had this "woe is me" mentality. Dude is capable of great things, but sometime you really gotta question his mental toughness. Seems to check out at times.

1000% right! he says he's a philly guy! yeah right. that photo op with him and his family in 3 piece white suits in a ballroom dining room with their new adopted baby in january in philly magazine was a joke! that's not philly at all and ive been in philly and surrounding suburbs for 41 yrs! he doesn't have the heart to get through a tough game or a slump. he was worse before when he would mope around the mound after serving up a HR, which he still does, but not as much. He's shocked someone took him deep. Pitch smarter and not harder! Greg Maddux barely threw over 92 mph. 4 Cy Youngs and 355 wins later and he's trotting to Cooperstown. Hamesl doesn't get it and never will!

Except for the Braves, the division is garbage. Looks like things are back to normal in the NL east.

they lost hudson last night. lets see how they will do.

the phils...john mayberry should never be allowed to play again. that dive for the ball with the bases loaded was so bad he missed it by 3 feet! two weeks without revere and still no CF help. thanks amaro! and his press conference last night was a tota joke of how no one is giving up top talent? texas gave up olt for garza, so don't tell me that! make it happen! it's your freaking job.

Even with Tim Hudson down for the count, it shouldn't matter for the Phils. They've shown in the past couple games against a true World Series contender (the Cardinals) exactly what they are: an out-classed, middle-of-the-road team.

    Time to start re-tooling.

Deal Papelbon, deal Jimmy Rollins, deal Michael Young.

  16. Catfish Guest

axe-paps and lee's contracts are preventing them from being dealt unless the phils take on some of the money.

young, utley and ruiz are free agents.

rollins has 1-2 yrs left on his deal.

im with you though - trade everyone on the team but the phillie phantic! it's over. they could've won 1 or 2 more world series and didn't. time to rebuild!

  17. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

I think Paps' credentials are good enough to get him dealt without having to eat salary. A vet like Young will also be appealing to a real contender.

I'd keep Lee and Utley. Ruiz...eh, I'm not sure about.

Rollins would be tougher to deal, but I'd make that move. Howard, too, although NO ONE is going to touch that salary.

Oh well, I guess Brandon Beachy is coming back at the right time. He was pitching better than anyone in the NL before his injury last year.

So having the biggest division lead makes the Braves garbage? Axe you need to figure out what garbage is.

  20. Catfish Guest

yeah but beachy is banged up so can atlanta count on him.
