Cat why bring back Emery? I know he came cheap but if he was a good goalie to them why let him go the first time - I dont get it
Mason was pretty much the worst starting goalie I've ever seen that could stay healthy. Was awesome his rookie year and then he had a lobotomy and hasn't made a confident save since. Emery was a smart pickup, durability is still a concern. Finished last year with a groin issue. LeCavalier contract is going to be troublesome but might be fun for a year same with Streit. He was looking to trade Coburn too. Somebody has to take the keys away. I'm expecting a good year out of the Flyers after the long summer and minimal roster turnover, but their depth at the blueline is pretty bad to say the least and it will eventually catch up with them.
I agree everyone keeps saying two good goalies - more like one. Mason sucks. I dont like the Vinny signing but it is what it is, stuck with him now. I see his first year going well and after that not so good, alas Gratton. Ive said my piece on Emery. Striet I havent looked at the deal but he'll help on the backend and better to be ready to log some serious minutes. hes not the most responsible defenseman but he can put up some numbers on the other end. pair him with someone who looks after their own end and he will thrive. getting a little long in the tooth though
coburn needs to go and pair guys who can play with the other and they will be ok. streit will be fine. vinny too. on offense - i don't care how young sean courterier is - this is his last chance. all this supposed talent and last year was a disaster. one more bad year and no one will want him via a trade! he will stuck here. trade players when they have value and not when they stink!
shero- "win today and we will walk together forever!" some clown on cbs said yeah and montreal squashed the flyers in 76 in 4 straight and ended his goon teams. i bashed him as classless.
it was pretty easy in 1976...Bernie and macGliesh were hurt and could not play. GAURANTEE no sweep with bernie in net. Not saying they would have beat "les habs" but no way a sweep with those two playing............
I always thought the Fog was already in there. what a shame he shouldve been in years, no make that decades ago
Just FYI Streit is 35, LeCavalier is 33 (his age should be higher due to wear and tear), Emery 30 (an old 30).
2 years for 3.25 for Couturier, with a 1.75 hit next season. another solid deal by Homer. I know a lot of people are down on this kid but I think too much was expected too fast. remember Joe Thornton was thrown to the wolves right out of junior and he sucked his first two years. give this kid some time big guys like him sometime take longer to develop as they fill out a lanky frame and get their confidence up. he'll be solid I think. I still cant believe Hextall was brought into an assistant GM role - hes one of the only players the Flyers had I cant stand other than Brashear
as a player he was nerve racking to watch. as an assistant gm-he got a ring and that's more than clarkie and homer got in their current roles. as for courterier....to me this is it for him. if he regresses even more than last year he's got to go.
I hate that Couturier was brought up right away, I think it could have been among the worst things for his development. I like that extension though, didn't think Homer knew how to do that. I like the Hextall hire alot, but I'm surprised Cutter doesn't like him.
yeah to me bob hexy built himself a nice career in LA as a scout and then later as assist gm. hell, he has a cup ring, so how much worse can he do from homer?
I really like Hextall as a hire catfish. I think Homer is among the worst at managing his contract slots and development pool. Hextall will be able to fit Homer's decisions into the prospect pool, the affiliate, cap limits, etc. and he should help keep Homlgren from making so many of the mistakes we've seen year over year. He's going to know off the top of his head about how many moves each player has, how the affiliate is hurt or helped (individual development and team construction), and he's been around one of the best drafters and prospect evaluators in the game (Lombardi). It will probably take a couple years to unravel the mess, but even when Hextall gets his own team, he will have fixed much of what is completely broke in my opinion. I thought it was PHI's best move in the last 2 years given where they're at and where they want to go.
