Ogundeji heading to IR

One roster question just became a bit more clear. 2021 fifth rounder Ade Ogundeji was on the roster bubble this year after the team added Calais Campbell, Bud Dupree and David Onyemata in free agency (on top of drafting Arnold Ebiketie and Deangelo Malone last year and Zach Harrison this year).

His chances to win an opening day roster spot were shot down over the weekend. Ogundeji suffered an ankle injury in practice yesterday, and later tests confirmed that he will need surgery. He is being placed on the Injured Reserve list.

It might be a blessing in disguise though, as 2020 fourth rounder Mykal Walker was a surprise release over the weekend.

The defensive line is still a day vs. night improvement compared to last season. Calais Campbell, Grady Jarrett, David Onyemata and Bud Dupree will have Zach Harrison, Ta'quon Graham and Arnold Ebiketie rotating in for them.

By comparison, last year a collection of undrafted rookies and career practice squad projects (Abdullah Anderson, Anthony Rush, Timmy Horne, Jalen Dalton, Jaleel Johnson, Matt Dickerson) played over 1200 snaps on the line. It was a joke of a line even coming out of preseason, and the midseason loss of Ta'quon Graham made it significantly worse. This year the depth is there, with Horne being the only one of the projects/rejects even remaining on the roster.
