it might be easier to list all the cuts here . discuss who we should maybe pick up or should go . Teams have until Tuesday afternoon to get their rosters down to 75, and the Browns are going to apparently do it a little at a time. The team released four guys Monday, getting them down to 84 players. The guys in question were defensive back Vernon Kearney, defensive lineman Dave Kruger, wide receiver Cordell Roberson and linebacker Tommy Smith. That leaves them with nine more moves to make, and apparently they wanted to get one more day of work out of those guys before sending them packing. I was mildly surprised to see Roberson get cut this early . maybe they are trying to sneak him through as a early cut nobody ? i was hoping Kruger would have at least made the practice squad .maybe later ?
Honestly, I think he had little to no chance to make the final 53 anyways, so this doesn't surprise me all that much Josh Gordon Greg Little Travis Benjamin Devone Bess David Nelson Not to mention Norwood and Cooper, too many WR's and Roberson didn't show enough to surpass any on that list IMO
Gordon is suspended for the first two games .Nelson has done NOTHING but ride a bike all camp long .i would have cut him instead of one of the rooks .if he can'y get healthy see Hardesty hit the bricks .
David Akers is a solid, respectable, veteran kicker, which is fine. That doesn?t mean that the Lions aren?t a little less fun with him kicking field goals. According to the team?s official website, the Lions cleared the way for Akers by releasing kicker Havard Rugland, better known as ?Kickalicious? from his trick-shot video. While he came to camp a curiosity, he?s made a name for himself with a strong leg, and has shown well enough in the preseason that he?ll likely get another chance somewhere.
Browns waived FB wen Marecic, LB Kendrick Adams, OG Dominic Alford, WR Dominique Croom, DL Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, OG Ryan Miller and TE Travis Tannahill. One of ex-football "czar" Mike Holmgren's numerous failed draft picks, Marecic was made expendable by Chris Ogbonnaya's emergence at fullback. Miller was a 2012 fifth-rounder.
Browns claimed P Colton Schmidt off waivers from the 49ers. It's unclear if Schmidt is intended to push presumed starter Spencer Lanning, but he's likely just a caddie for the final few days of the summer.
Browns claimed LB Paul Hazel off waivers from the Jaguars. An undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan, Hazel should get some run in Thursday's preseason finale before being cut loose again.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the signing of wide receiver Jordan Norwood on Wednesday. Norwood had been released by the Cleveland Browns on Monday, as Cleveland made its cuts a day before the deadline. Norwood cleared waivers on Tuesday and was snatched up by the Bucs on Wednesday. To make room on the roster, Tampa Bay released defensive end Aaron Morgan.
Is this just Browns cuts or all NFL cuts? Former #33 pick 2011 draft (4 picks above Jabaal Sheard) Ras-I Dowling was cut from the Patriots. Browns claim Eric Martin, LB from Saints. To make room Browns released Trevin Wade w/ injury settlement.
Quew any and all cuts . some may be able to help the Browns . every year we go through why they did they cut this guy and i wish they would have picked this guy up . The Browns waived cornerback Trevin Wade today and were awarded linebacker Eric Martin off waivers from the New Orleans Saints, the team announced. The Browns reached an injury settlement with Wade, a seventh-round pick in last year?s draft who had been sidelined since Aug. 17, when he suffered a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder while diving to intercept a pass during practice. Wade appeared in 13 games last season, compiling 11 tackles on defense and another six on special teams. "Going to miss my GREAT teammates and great fans," Wade wrote on Twitter today. "Got to get back healthy! Best of luck to them boys!" The 6-foot-2, 250-pound Martin is an undrafted rookie from the University of Nebraska who signed with the Saints on April 28 and was waived by them Tuesday. He appeared in all three of the Saints? preseason games and tallied one special-teams tackle. Martin is expected to be available for the Browns' preseason finale Thursday night against the Chicago Bears. A first-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior, Martin led the Cornhuskers with 8.5 sacks.
Seneca Wallace is retiring from football. It was apparently Wallace's call not to suit up in Thursday's preseason finale. "He felt strongly about it," coach Jim Harbaugh said. "I don't talk people out of that. I've never seen it done on game day, but I wish him well." A 2003 fourth-rounder, Wallace hangs it up with a career 81.3 QB rating, 59.2 completion percentage and 31:18 TD:INT ratio through 764 passes. Wallace hasn't played since 2011.
Seahawks preparing to release Antoine Winfield. Offered as trade bait. I suspect a trade or two today.
Browns released WR David Nelson. Nelson's one-year Browns deal only included $25K guaranteed, so he was never a lock for a roster spot. Nelson couldn't get over the hump following a 2012 ACL tear. The Browns appear poised to carry Travis Benjamin, Josh Cooper, and Davone Bess as the top backups for Greg Little and suspended Josh Gordon.
Too old for the Browns, there has been a youth movement. I would love to see this type of player (about 6-8 years younger) for one of the glutton of D-Lineman we have.
i think your right . there will be movement amongst all teams between today and next Sunday .i hope the Browns pick up a veteran guard / CB / make that two CB's / FS / COP running back
Redskins waived CB Chase Minnifield. The Minnifield cut surprised Redskins beat writers, who'd expected him to make the final 53. Washington is hoping to stash him on its practice squad. would love to see the Browns pick up Minni . he has the bloodlines .loved his father when he was here .
Bengals waived FB John Conner. Terminated. It's a surprise because "Terminator" Conner out-blocked Orson Charles in Bengals camp, but the organization is higher on Charles' upside in the fullback role. Conner may generate some interest at his $630,000 cost. interesting . he can block thats for sure . he can block better than Oby
Morning Irish..yes we have a log jam at D Line . the Saints are one team that comes to mind that need help there . swing a deal with them for a CB/ G/ our secondary scares the hell out of me . if the pressure doesnt get there they are TOAST ..McFaden looks lost out there .Skrine has improved leaps & bounds but he is better in the slot .Owens hasnt played much .
