?No, I think that kind of hit was something confined to that series. That hit showed how desperate Canada became while that series was unfolding, particularly after the disaster in Canada. How desperate Canada was to win that series. Of course, the Soviets wanted to win that series big time. But they weren?t desperate because there was no expectation for them. If they had have won, it would have been terrific (for them)? They had switched their team around. They had brought in a lot of younger players. They had themselves well covered if they didn?t win. And of course, no one expected them to win. So, Canada was pretty desperate and I think what the Bobby Clarke hit showed was Canada?s desperation. They were at the point that they?d do virtually anything to win and as I said in my book in 2007"

My favourite story is when shayne corson goes into pat burns office to complain about his ice time. Burns ends up whipping an ashtray at his head and misses by a couple of inches.

I'm sitting in central park next to a hobo, I look at him and say "Do you know who I am?" and he responds, "yeah, you're a drunk homeless guy sleeping in the park"

when i was 12 yrs old, my older brother (the nice one) brought me to my very first Flyers game at the Spectrum. It was pre-season, but I didn't know the difference. They were playing Boston and it was 1983. Now I grew up playing street hockey since i was 5 and played against my 3 older brothers, so keep that in mind. For some reason I didn't know at 12, they played less hockey and fought the entire 2nd period and most of the 3rd period! After a while, I was sitting there bored. Meanwhile my brother was chanting and being loud and loving the fighting. My brother finally notices and asks me what's wrong. I said "I wanted to see goal scoring like I did in our driveway, not a bunch of guys fighting BECAUSE THAT'S NOT HOCKEY TO ME." He said "oh shut up and eat your hotdog!" the fighting stopped and play resumed and the Flyers scored. Then I was all happy. My brother said "this is the last game I ever bring you too!" haha!

Real hot one today, I saw a lady walking her dog, so I asked her if it was a female. The lady says yes, so I said you're lucky your dog isn't a muslim she would have to be wearing her niquab today. She was laughing her head off lol.

2 yrs ago i saw a lady who looked like this

walking her golden retriever. she was on the sidewalk. the dog on on a grassy patch of grass in between the curb and the sidewalk. the lady yanked the dogs chain and the dogs neck snapped back to her to face her. she did it again to get the dog of the grassy part and onto the sidewalk. mind you there were no cars coming and the dog was never in danger of being hit. i pulled over and rolled down my window and said:

    "excuse me..."

she said "how may i help you?"

i said "how would you like it if someone pulled you around by the neck and pulled the leash so hard your neck snapped back twice you old hag?"

    she said "huh, excuse me?"

i slowly pull away and YELL: "ASSHOLE!"

i laughed the rest of the way to work!

im a hardass in life. got it from my Father, who was an old-school Irish Catholic who served in WWII as a Medic in the Battle of the Bulge and won a Bronze Star for dragging a guy into a foxhole and patching him up. He was tough as nails and had little empathy for anyone.

When it comes to animals, im an old softie. I despise animal abuse and abusers. I think they all should serve time in jail! i am a cat owner but love dogs too. im on 5 free animal sites on Facebook of animal shelters around Philly and the tri-state area. I love reading the stories of cats and dogs being saved and hate the ones of abuse. makes me so mad at the abuse some people do to harmless animals. so seeing that old bag do that to the dog pissed me off. i had to give her a piece of my mind! glad i did.

do you guys have any animals?

my middle name is Francis after that Saint. My Mom needed a middle name and there was a book with St. Francis on the cover surrounded by animals next to her bed as she rested. She liked it and she picked Francis.

There are 88 saints with the name francis in them, the one specifically that spoke to animals was of assisi.

yeah he was on the cover of the book as it was him and some animals on the cover.

im going to tell a funny story for you all..

so i was born and had no name. My Mom told my Dad to go home and ask the 7 kids what should the name be. My Mom's Father wanted Fredrick as their was no Fredrick in the family except for as a middle name. I already have 4 brothers-James, John, Thomas and Joseph, so those names were out. I have a ton of cousins, so many names were used.

So my Dad asked my siblings names. My older brother, who bf I was born was the last child, said "Barney." My Grandfather wanted Fred and in 1971 the Flintstones were popular, so my brother said "Barney" like Fred and Barney from the Flintstones. The other choices was Michael. So my Dad goes back to the hospital and tells my Mom. She shakes her head in disapproval. She asked "who said 'Barney?' " He said "Joseph did." She said "i figured!" She then said "John (my Dad's name) Barney?" "Barney Francis Burke?" My Dad said "yeah, I like it." She said "that's from a cartoon- Fred and Barney the Flintstones." My Dad had no idea what she was talking about.

She then told him to go home and she would think of it on her own. She went through a list of all the cousins in her head and so many damn names were used already. The 1 name that wasn't was Robert, well sort of. Her nephew was born "Robert" but went by "Bob or Bobby" since birth and he was already 10 yrs old and still called "Bob." So she made her decision and it was Robert Francis Burke. No Barney Fredrick Burke. Could you imagine that name? Barney Burke? OMG I would shoot myself.

    hahaha.

My youngest brother is named robert, my parents got the name from my moms cousin in new rochelle, everybody called him bobby.

Bobby Burke is like Bobby Brady-no thanks. And none of my brothers went by the y as a nickname, so no Jimmy, Johnny, Tommy, Joey and certainly no Robby or Bobby. Although we do go by Burkey or Burkie a lot which drove my late Father nuts. He hated that.

My favorite Nun in 4th grade Sister Virginia called me "Bobby" once and I corrected her and she was devastated.

In HS another Nun made us fill out index cards with the name we wanted to be called in class and we could use nicknames if appropriate. She would shuffle the index cards and pick one and that's how she picked out kids to answer questions. One day she called out "Bobby Burke answer the question." I said "Sister Mary-Jean, what is the name on the card?" She said "Rob." I said "that's the name I want to be called." The class went "oooohhhh." She said "fair enough, Rob, answer the question."

When I use my credit card, the recipient almost always says "thank you Bob." The name on the card says Robert Burke and I signed my name that. No where does it say "Bob." wtf.

With my 3 brothers and my one brothers best friends they sometimes call me "Rocky" as when i was a kid as i was supposedly stubborn being the youngest of 8 and getting picked on and they started called me "Robby the rockhead!" Once the movie Rocky came out it got shortened to Rocky. Now they just say "Rock." haha

My 1 friend made up the nickname "Catfish" from a personal story that only him and I know and only he calls me that or "Fish." I told the story on Cbssportsline once as people wanted to know why my CBS name was Catfish. Thankfully my 4 older brothers don't know the story! haha

That's funny, my brother would always get pissed off when we called him bob. My older brother always used to tease him, but the name never stuck, some of his friends call him robby. His grade 1 teacher asked my mom if she could change his name to bob, my mom got offended and said, no, his name is roberto, that's how my parents call him, but only them and the older relatives.

  17. Catfish Guest

haha. so what do you call him ? Bob, Bobby or Robby?

  18. skinny123 Guest

I call him just rob, some of his friends call him robby or they gave him a nickname riggs.

  19. Catfish Guest

fair enough. i like riggs. reminds me of Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon.
