MLB - NEWS & NOTES

Discussion in 'MLB General Discussion Board' started by Willie, Mar 7, 2015.

  1. There is no position where offense should be weighed less heavily than catcher.

I think Molina will get in the HOF. I just think his offensive numbers hurt him and makes Pudge better. Especially in HRs. He has 2 HRs so far this year? I don't think hes a bad hitter but that Pudge is better, which pushes him over Molina. I saw Pudge play. He was good also.....

  3. Pudge was amazing, he's a sure fire HoF guy.

PUDGE holding onto the ball as a Marlin catcher when he got rolled over to win a playoff game or clinch a playoff spot was my most memorable pudge moment.

Molina is good also. I think he'll end up in the HOF also. Cervelli (Bucs catcher) was voted 3rd for the AS game behind Posey and Molina.....

im a stat guy and think molina doesn't have it for the hof. not a 2000 hit hitter or even 1000 rbis. his stats are way lower than you think.

  7. Ever look at defensive stats?

besides ozzie smith, name me 1 guy in the hall of fame for defensive stats? show me 1 hof plaque that mentions defensive stats on it? you won't find any. i don't think his offense gets him in. sorry.

I feel the same way about Bill Mazeroski. Wasn't great offensively but was defensively and even though he hit the HR that won the 1960 WS for the Pirates, I think a player should be great on both sides of the ball to get into the HOF........Maz kind of got in the way Smith got in, with his defense. I put more emphasis on offense mainly because it's soooo hard to hit a ball. The hardest thing to do in sports, they say? 1 out of 3 times at bat gets into the Hall with half decent defense.......

Catcher is a bit different considering your always handling the ball and Molina could be the best at throwing runners out plus his lifetime average is around .284, of course a catcher needs a pitchers help in keeping the runner close.......

i dont think ozzie smith for his fielding should be in the hall of fame. sorry. one side of the ball doesn't cut it for me. gotta have batting stats too.

It's the "Hall of Fame" not the 'Hall of Stats'. :p

u need stats to get in....

I disagree. Plenty are in with out the backup of stats... thats what makes these discussions interesting i guess.

I agree with Fish. People shouldn't get in just because they can catch the ball more than some other guys. You should be able to hit also. Thats how I would vote for players if I had a vote. In some ways I'm more stringent and in other ways I don't see as much a problem with letting PED users in. Pitchers were doing them also. So it only makes sense for the batters to do them to make it fair. It's an era. And MLB didn't even have the stuff banned for most of the time the players were doing them. So it wasn't against the rules. Then your going to keep players out like Bonds who we know did them by looking at his head. But he was never caught and there is no proof. So if your a voter, your making your own judgement call to keep him pout with no evidence, which is biased.......

I have no idea what you are talking about...

Never mind Will. Will take too long to explain.....

I was watching the futures game yesterday for a bit to get a look at Josh Bell and he hit a 2-run homer *DANCE* They also have a guy listed on the U.S. team from the Pirates thats a catcher. The other catcher won the MVP of the game, as they only had 2 catchers on the team. Never heard of him before either...... *SCRATCH*
