Fox told reporters today after practice that Trubisky got some first team reps in practice today and that the plan for Tennessee is to have Glennon start and play the first half with Trubisky starting the second half with the first string offense hopefully against the first string Titans defense. If Glennon shits the bed again I think we could see Mitch get in earlier than planned basically earning the starting job going into the season. I suggest you try to watch the presser. Fox was as uncommitted about Glennon being the defacto starter as he has been all offseason. At the very least Trubisky will continue to get some first team reps leading up to the game. As close to a competition as we can hope for I guess. Also Carey is out 6 weeks with wrist surgery. And Leno gets a 4 year contract extension.
Great news! Though I would prefer Trubs gets in a series or two before halftime so we can see him against the Titans starter. You're right, we may be getting the competition we wanted.
Rich Campbell @Rich_Campbell Bears QB Mike Glennon says he senses "deja vu," having been in Tampa when James Winston was drafted first overall. 2:15 PM - 23 Aug 2017 ========== Interpreted: “yep, I know I suck!”
I don't really know how to take that. I couldn't find the presser but I found an article about it. http://m.chicagobears.com/news/arti...starters/09aed893-6268-4813-a496-d6789a34c733 It also states there is no change in the depth chart. Trubisky is still 3rd. I guess I'm glad Trubs will get some first team reps but right now I'm not holding my breath for anyhing different than the plan. Also, Leno got $38 million over 4 years. That's a tad much for Leno.
Interpreted: “yep, I know I suck!” Glennon probably feels he's going up against another stacked deck. Well if he was in Tampa, he's not here. I think he might be able to help himself if he didn't play like complete crap every week and played closer to his best, which he's not close to doing now. The clowns made him starter when he'd done nothing to deserve it except getting overpaid. And they're sticking with him now. He's being given every chance to own it this season.
Also, Leno got $38 million over 4 years. That's a tad much for Leno. I tend to agree but my first thought about this is if they wanna extend someone what about Hicks?? He's also in the final year of his deal but if he plays like he did last season Hicks is a guy who will get PAID. I could see him not on the team in a year which i don't like. Leno's contract must put him at/just outside the top10 in the league? No way he's been that good. I've never been a fan of Leno admittedly, but he has been getting better. He went from very bad his first year, to bad and then prob just about average last season. So i don't think he deserves this much, but i guess you weigh it against the lack of high quality LT's in the league/Leno in the final year of his rookie deal. But he needs to keep getting better. Would've thought the Bears could've got this done for a few mil less tbh, both in terms of the guaranteed and overall number.
I think they majorly overpaid for a LT that has probably already hit his ceiling in terms of talent/performance. This move by Fox sounds like it's more to appease to the fanbase than open a competition. Just my opinion.
Leno's contract puts him 16th in terms of average salary for tackles. Good signing, good money for a 25 yo LT that gets the job done. Hopefully Hicks is next if not franchise tag is always an option.
My thoughts? Start Trubisky this week. Game 3 is the most "real" game of preseason. If he shits the bed, controversy over. Glennon is the starter for Game 1 and Trubisky sits and learns until he is ready. If he comes out and crushes it again - in a near real game scenario - Controversy over. HE is the starter. Now, I know this is a relatively simplistic view, but it make sense to me.
