Well, this will be a real test for Rod Marinelli. Austin was a second-round draft pick who has clear first-round talent. But he's been characterized as lazy, unmotivated (he apparently loves the music industry more than football) and -- even worse -- a bit of a finger-pointer. A low-risk, high-reward investment. If Marinelli can't get him going, we'll drop the malingerer. If Marinelli CAN light a fire under him -- then this will be an absolute steal.
There were A LOT of Dallas fans on the CBS boards who were banging the drum to take him in the 2011 draft. I gotta cop -- I was one who was intrigued by his upside. Didn't realize he had so much dog in him, though.
Axe, this isn't pertinent to your thread. But have any of you in the loop heard that the Cowboys are shopping DeMarco Murrary? I saw it some where last week...didn't follow up! Thanks
Didn't hear that they were "shopping" Murray, but I DID see a report or two (unverified) that surfaced saying that Cowboys brass has quietly admitted that, because of his running style, Murray is never going to be the full-season, 16-20 carry a game RB that they envisioned. He has the speed, has the vision, and has the size -- but he runs too upright. I don't know if anything will be done about it this year, but I have a feeling the team is going to have to make a play for another RB, either in the draft (fairly high) or in free agency, where we could do a running back by committee (think Ray Rice-Bernard Pierce or Arian Foster-Ben Tate) where if "A" gores down, we wouldn't miss much if "B" had to play.
