I was just thinking about the future a moment. About when Ben retirees and Rudolph replaces him. Then I said to myself “ self Dobbs played pretty good in the preseason this year and that pass he made against the Ravens for the 2nd and 20 pick up was a really great pass. My point is we may wind up with a really good QB battle when Ben retires. To the point we might be able to fetch a 1st rd pick or two by trading the one who doesn’t become the starter. I know neither of them cost us a first round pick, but a lot of QBs taken in other rounds besides one have been traded for multiple first rd picks. This could wind up being a good problem.

Dobbs never had a QB coach at Tennessee. He has a bright future.

Beach, he doesn’t have a QB coach right now either. I don’t say this as a critizism. It’s just funny. I believe he has made strides and if a legit QB coach is picked it will help even that much more! Would be an awesome situation to be in!

and I hope that bright future is here in Pittsburgh. We had this conversation before Jones was gone ... Dobbs is the right choice for b/u. Considering he never did have a QB coach @ Tenn. but his physical skills alone propelled him in to the draft. He has an over abundance of QB traits; arm strength second to none on the team, the best QB legs we've seen since Kordell and obviously fearless in times of crisis, as a b/u. It can't be easy to enter a hot game as cold as ice, throw that 20 yard pass about 12 seconds after entering the game. There I give you the final and most important of his QB skill/traits ... confidence ... In that moment, we were all just living in his world ... and he never hesitated to make perhaps the most important connection of his young career for his team. Impressive, IMO is putting it mildly and that's who I want to see in the game if Ben isn't.

Love me some Mason Rudolph, but he'll need to wait. I need to see more of Joshua's resume.

Agreed... but as has been said Dobbs didn’t have a QB coach in Tennessee but I’m pretty sure he had an OC. Having a dedicated QB coach is different. Fichtner is focused on a whole lot more than the QB room right now. However, I also feel that he is all in when it comes to football now compared to when he was becoming a rocket scientist.

    The skies the limit!

I agree. I should have said, "He had Fichtner last year (as a dedicated QB coach) in what I believe was the most important year for his development."

When the Steelers cut Jones this is what Ben said to Dobbs,

“I told him, ‘You need to prove to everybody that you deserve to be here,'” Roethlisberger said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I’m not talking about on the field. He’s proven that. … But what he needs to do is prove he’s as valuable as Landry was off the field — in terms of film study, when I have a question [and him] having a good answer for me. When I come off the field after the play, ‘Hey, what did you see here?’ and he can give me an answer. That’s where he really needs to step up. He’s all for it. He said, ‘Ben, I’ll give you everything I can,’ and I trust that he will.”

I noticed Dobbs talking to Ben on the sideline during the 4th quarter yesterday. I think Dobbs told Ben, this isn't rocket science Ben! Throw the ball to the guys in white jerseys.

All joking aside I think Dobbs is in good hands as far as coaching. Fitchner is the OC because Ben wanted it that way. Ben and Fitchner are the guys making the game plan now. Guaranteed the QB meetings and film sessions are beneficial to the two young QBs.

Boy do I ever agree with this, and I wasn't all that sure of the reception earlier in the season. Ben and Fitch are driving this train and I can't see how the two young QB's aren't just soaking up all this, so far, 2018 season. I hope that Rudolph is taking it as seriously as Josh, (whom I am very pleased is apparently well saddled) in being able to answer Ben's inquiries of specific plays. Even if he never gets the opportunity to actually game time talk with Ben, be prepared, be prepared, be prepared to... next man up is no joke and i think this years team is proving it week in and out...
