Like the title says, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels withdraws his agreement to become the Indy Colts head coach, and will remain with the Patriots.

This coming after the Colts' social media pages spent a good chunk of the day making posts about how excited the team was about hiring him. Haha.

    Thoughts?

Is this a succession plan being put in place? Will McDaniels regret not going to the Colts?

Belichick's not going anywhere. He didn't want to uproot his family.

Then he (McDaniels) is in the wrong profession.

Isnt this how the Pats got their last head coach?

    Likely scenarios:

    A. There was communication that he's a potential successor to Bill.

    B. The Colts suck. I mean, they really suck. He might not have wanted his second head coaching chance to be his last.

    C. This is the guy who drafted Tim Tebow. He might just be awful at making life choices.

I am ashamed for wanting McDaniels as the next HC for the Bears. He obviously hasnt matured enough to take on the position. If you had this much indecision he never should have let things go as far as they did. I mean the Colts have coaches under contract now that were his hand picked assistants. McDaniels is the kid that couldnt stick out a sleepover and ran back home to mommy and daddy in the middle of the night.

Actually is quite the opposite. I commended Bill for standing on his own and turning down the handpicked situation he was being handed buy Parcells. It seems like Mike just doesnt have the balls to say no to Bill.

No, that's the same as "B".

I think "C" applies either way.

Just curious from all the Pats fans. How do you feel about McDaniels coming back? It seems he is the heir to the thrown.

Mixed emotions...I really don't like what he did here, but he's still a very good OC and faced with the prospect of potentially losing all three coordinators in the same off-season (along with rumors of Scarnecchia and Fears retiring), selfishly it's at least nice to retain some continuity on the coaching staff.

Agreed^, an ugly move but the Pats will benefit from it.

Point being their last head coach had accepted another job then quit

I think McDaniels was offered a true mentorship under Belichick and the ownership group didn't offer it until after the Super Bowl. The Pats were dicks for waiting until the day he was going to fly off and sign after he packed. Assistants already signed and everything. The new Colts HC will now have to use assistants that aren't his. The Pats got their deflategate revenge there. They waited until the last moment just to screw the Colts.

Report: Bob Lamonte fires Josh McDaniels

The Colts wanted to hire him, and now his agent is firing him.

According to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com, agent Bob Lamonte is terminating his relationship with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Lamonte represented both McDaniels and Colts G.M. Chris Ballard throughout the process, and it’s was Lamonte’s responsibility to thread the needle and/or land the plane. He failed, either because he didn’t know his client well enough or he wasn’t paying enough attention to the warning signs before telling his other client, Ballard, that everything would be OK.

Regardless, it appears that Lamonte is breaking up with McDaniels before McDaniels can break up with Lamonte. Anyone else who is represented by Lamonte, or who is considering hiring him, should be paying close attention to Lamonte’s role in this mess — and his apparent effort to shirk any and all responsibility for it by trying to pin it all on his client through leaks to the media.

What Lamonte should be doing is defending McDaniels. The fact that Lamonte represents Ballard as well makes that impossible — a fact that should open the eyes of plenty of coaches and General Managers to the rampant conflicts of interest among the small handful of agents who represent the bulk of the people who run NFL teams.
