There is going to be a large changeover to the forums in the near future with all team related themes being removed for one basic theme for all users. The main reason for this is the extra strain it puts on the server making for increased load times and a higher cost of operation. One of the things that has remained consistent throughout the time that this site has been in operation is the fact that the money earned here is returned to the site for various upkeep, maintenance and advertising. In order to continue growing the site and improving everyone's enjoyment with the time they spend here this change is a necessity. For those of you that have been a part of our community since the beginning, you know how much work has been put in and how much this site has improved since we first opened in 2012. None of that would have been possible without the suggestions and feedback from each and everyone of you. For that, I wanted to take an extra moment to say thank you and I will continue to do my very best to make sure that I am making the improvements that you request. With that in mind, I would like to start taking suggestions again to see what I have missed and what new ideas have come up. Please post any suggestions or ideas that you may have.
the one comment i have is the same one as before -- if the last comment is over a month old - just remove the entire thread and that saves space for more threads. There are so many dead threads, that they can be taken down now. I hope that helps.
I wish it were possible to see who is leaving the "thumbs down". I brought this up many times. It's people that know they can do it just because they don't like another person and can't get caught. Or even another persons point of view. If it's not possible or costs more money then thats okay also......If it were possible, I think it would bring the people on this site closer together......Just my opinion.... Edit: Or just have a "Thumbs Up" would be nice also. I don't like people hiding around leaving negatives just because they disagree with someone else's opinion......And knowing they can get away with it!
I can probably remove some old threads but there is a lot of information on some, even smaller ones, that people go back and refer to in later discussion. There's really no issues with saving space. I put the money earned from advertising back into the site in part to keep additional space for users/threads. Thanks for the input and if you have any other ideas be sure to post them.
When we first opened up the boards we had a discussion on the karma and whether or not to have both positive/negative options. The main reason for keeping both was the idea of someone being able to give a quick opinion on a post by simply clicking one or the other. We had to keep it anonymous for several different reasons, all of which involved the coding and the layout it would require to change it. I've previously considered removing the karma altogether and simply sticking with the 'thank you' option. I'll give it some thought when I have some time to look at some analytics that go with it. Thanks for the suggestion and if you have anymore be sure to post them.
there's so many on the main board that no one goes too. they are taking up space. just remove them. i hate seeing old threads as my name is the last one to post on them months ago.
And actually Boss, if you remove the karma button that would probably motivate some people to do more posting and less grading. I'm not sure what value the button has, it seems to incite more hostility on certain threads especially from the members who take it very seriously. I would get rid of it. It always struck me as a cheap shot anyway. I like things evenly balanced. I'm Canadian and we don't like fights. When I'm reading on a thread and see that someone has gone to town 'negging' any particular poster constantly ... I reverse the karma for them. I just think this gives certain people a way of bolstering their egos. If they can't discuss or debate with maturity and responsibility they hit the thumbs down. I just think it's silly.
I'm still thinking about an idea that I broached to you a few months (years?) ago. It something that works on FB. If you highlight a member's name this shows up in their notifications and draws their attention to a specific post or thread. Have you thought about this anymore Boss?
[notify]babyfan[/notify] Forgot all about this baby but here you go. The way this works is you type in the @ symbol, then follow it with the start of a username. It will prompt a drop down list and you select the user you want to tag from that list. There is a notification at the top of the page. Try it out and let me know what you think!
Well I LOVE it!! I've already done it 5 times and I'm working on doing it again and again and ... Ad nausea, ad infinitum.
I think BF hit the nail on the head, Tim. I just noticed you took the "THUMBS DOWN" off while I was on.......Thanks Tim! *THUMBSUP* I think the main theme in her post was ......It's nothing but a cheap shot, imo.......
If you truly like "evenly balanced" shouldn't you support both an up vote and a down vote? Seems to me this has been enacted and is quite Libtarded in a safespace sort of way.
