To get excited that football is closer. This is my personal favorite sport and my personal favorite team is obviously the Bears. But.....I just can't bring myself to care right now. And that's sad. I don't remember feeling this way when the team was dreadful in the 70's of the 90's so the fact that they aren't a good team isn't the issue. I think it's the fact that I don't expect anything to change anytime soon because of who owns the team. I keep telling myself we might finally have a young QB to get excited about. But then my inner voice wonders when the last time that worked for this franchise. I keep clinging to the hope that this defense takes a large step forward. But the secondary has to prove they can be at least average and the run defense needs to improve and they have got to friggin stay healthy. Maybe the thought that it's possible Fox gets fired at the end of the season and Jim Harbaugh becomes the next coach of the Chicago Bears can get me through.....or maybe that Virginia McCaskey has to eventually kick the bucket....something. Someone give me something.....
I think it's the fact that I don't expect anything to change anytime soon because of who owns the team. As bad as the ownership is, it has been demonstrated, on infrequent occasions, that a team with a bad owner can still have a good season here and there.. once every 8-10 years or so. It's just the odds playing out. The Bears more or less have fit right into this type of existence since the 80s. The stars need to align, as they did in 2001 for example. Everyone stays healthy, half the team has a career year, get lucky bounces to win games. As bad as we've been the last few years, we've also gotten no breaks. Tons of injuries, off-field distractions, seemingly endless amount of bad officiating in our favor etc. Even the year we got a high draft pick was arguably one of the weakest QB classes in recent memory. I'm an irrational fool because I still care and will still watch. And like the fool that I am, I will still hope that maybe everything crystallizes in 2017. Maybe the D stays healthy and is dominant, maybe Trubisky is the next Aaron Rodgers, maybe Jordan Howard is the best RB in the NFL. Anything could happen this year and we don't have the cloud of Shitwad hanging over it. I'm the only one here who is advocating for an open QB competition because I want the guy who gives us the best chance to win starting in week 1, whoever that is. I want to win now, this year, even though all logic and facts point directly to a 4-12 season.
I'm the only one here who is advocating for an open QB competition because I want the guy who gives us the best chance to win starting in week 1, whoever that is. I think if Tom Brady was one of the QB's in the competition we would not really have much of a chance of winning. I don't think Trubisky will be ready week 1, he is way to raw and inexperienced to take the reigns from game 1. Let Glennon take the lumps in the first few games or however long then turn it over to the rookie when the pressure is off and he can just play. I have no optimism for this team but always get excited for football season. Biggest thing I hope to see from the Bears is that some of these young guys show improvement and are ready to be contributors to the next coaching staff after Fox gets fired at years end.
I would really hope the QB competition is happening organically. The coaches should be deciding who is their best QB and who gives the Bears the best chance to win. That's why it pissed me off so much that Pace called Glennon the starter. Who the fuck is he to dictate who the starter is?
I'm with you here, pass that bong and I'll smoke some too. I know what it is on paper, and that's not good. But like I put in my thread a while back, there's some little things that will have me watching. And damn it, it's still football.
I can't argue with this, since when does the GM dictate who starts and who doesn't? Perhaps he could of helped himself with that statement and provide some clarity and elaborate on the inexperience of Trubisky. I agree with aggie there is no fucking way Trubisky will be ready by week #1, but you don't slam the door on that possibility either.
When your coach is a lame duck dead man walking, you can dictate whatever you want as a GM. Best players should always play, this season is a chance to showcase Glennon for other teams in hopes that he plays well enough to garner some draft picks and then give the future a little experience. This season isn't about winning anything. That was proven by the lack of activity in free agency and the lack of overall improvement to the roster of any veterans.
And if Fox weren't an idiot, he'd play Trubisky week one, down one if he thought he gave them a better chance to win..... Me thinks Trestman has more balls than Fox; at least Juicebox played Clausen when he knew the axe was about to come down on him..... Fox likely is a lame duck, but it also wouldn't shock me if the bears slung together 2-3 wins during the season sometime to keep him around year 4. If Fox is done this year (unless he finds a way to get this team to the playoffs), Pace I expect is doing a lot of homework on coaching candidates. I'm curious if he will test waters again for an offensive minded coach. Hopefully not a recycled garbage coach. The only prior coach right now I'd want is Mike McCoy.....but he has to be paired with a strong defensive coordinator, and well--Trubisky cant turn the ball over the way Rivers does......
I think the real story of that play is the CB that typifies our secondary, though I'm glad to see that out of Trubisky and the WR. Also, the OL was horrendous. It got progressively better, from the left to the right side, but that's not saying a whole lot. Was that Cohen coming out of the backfield? He's got quicks. I'm interested to see what he's able to do.
If you were starting to feel better, this should sink your hopes. http://deadspin.com/why-your-team-sucks-2017-chicago-bears-1797391407 Best line: When referring to the reaction of Bears fans at the draft when Trubisky was selected: "The fucking Javits Center on election night was a happier place to be."
Second best line: "You guys used to have one expensive, shitty QB. You now have two. Oh, and they signed Mark Sanchez too! Amazing. Beautiful. UNFUCKINGREAL. Why not grab Sean Salisbury from the local Chili’s and suit him up while you’re at it? Hell, bring Cutler BACK! Chicago could just become one giant shitty QB convention! What a fucking disaster."
LMAO...don't look now.... YOU ARE WORSE THAN THE CLEVELAND BROWNS, we actually improved in the off season (edit) You just had to go there, didn't you
Sonny, the Browns always improve in the offseason. Then when the games that matter start they go back to being sh_tty again. Its just what they do. Also, there is no such thing as "worse than the Cleveland Browns" unless you're the 2008 Lions. That is the only known exception.
We'll see, keep telling yourself that...I'm not a troll, I'm leaving your thread alone now. I would have never even posted if he didn't take a dig at the Browns. But, you are high on something powerful if you believe the Bears will be better than the Browns this year. They will be vying for the #1 overall pick in the 2018 draft...It will be a race between you guys and the Jets.
