Ideas for a Rb before trade deadline to tighten up the run game??

It's been reported, that we could have a good chance to make some noise this season. Our defense is coming together. There is still some opportunities to get much better against the pass on defense. Our main concern is having a healthy run game to take pressure off our $100 million signal caller. I believe a strong run game will alleviate some of the bad decisions made by Romo. He is clearly one of the best passing quarterbacks in the league today, but everyone has to realize our need for an effective run game and a balanced defense to have any chance at winning big games. It just ain't going to happen without an effective run game. We are in a passing league, but I believe ball control and a balanced defense is the key to getting over the hump. We know we can pass with the best of teams, but can we win time of possession and stop teams on third down? These two elements along with winning turnovers is the recipe for winning big games. Clearly, throwing for 5 touchdowns, 500 yards and putting up 48 points is just not good enough.

Getting help for the running game won't be easy. The best course of action is the draft, but we are in the middle of a season now. I've heard Maurice Jones-Drew's name surface. He hasn't been healthy and has a hefty salary to be paid. There are a handful of prospects in the next draft, but we need help now. Sending Romo out week after week without proper support in the run game, is an accident waiting to happen. I think Demarco Murray is a great change of pace back. He is not a bell-cow, because just when we think he is ready for big time he ends up on the injury list for multiple games.

After three consecutive seasons of seeing Murray get hurt (and for long stretches, at that), I hate to admit it but we should probably be looking elsewhere for an RB. If Murray could stay healthy this wouldn't be an issue, because when he's in he's shown he can be very productive. Latest I've heard is that this is a Grade 2 sprain (not a Grade 1), and as such Murray might miss another few weeks.

I've heard MJD's name thrown around, and Darren McFadden's. I'd be curious to see how we'd fit Jones-Drew in our cap. Given McFadden's injury history, I KNOW I wouldn't make that move. It's pretty slim pickin's for RBs -- look at the Giants, picking up sloths like Brandon Jacobs and Peyton Hillis.

Interesting piece. But I wonder what else it would take to pry AP away from the Vikes? Let's face it: an RB who can't stay healthy and a WR2-3 who can't stay healthy aren't going to make the Vikes jump for joy.

AP is the best back in the league, no doubt. He'll make Dallas better, no doubt. He'll also be 29 before next season starts -- how many years of being ultra-productive does he have left? 3 more?

  5. I doubt AP will be going anywhere, but I would prefer McFadden over MJD. MJD has been an injury mainstay for the last few years and McFadden catches more balls. MJD has 1-2 catches max per game.

  6. Don't know why we need to trade for anybody...DeMarco is not hurt that bad...ride what we got ( DeMarci,Randle and Tanner) for this year then draft a R.B., already in cap hell...a huge contract doesn't. Help!!

McFadden might be a better receiver out of the backfield, but he has a FAR more extensive injury history than MJD.

I think I'm with Utah on this -- we're going to be facing cap issues, so I think I'd rather ride it out with DeMarco for the year and look to the 2014 draft.

Starting to hear see reports about us targeting McFadden. Anyone else hearing the same?

Hope not. Just another injury-prone back. I'd think we'd want to get away from that.

  10. Guy is older than DeMarco and always hurt....let's just hope Murray can last the year and draft a running back lots of them in late rounds!!

Sorta wish "All Day" would have been on our bench Sunday. Well not the bench!

Yeah, getting "All Day" to don the Star is a pretty nice wish.
