How will management fuck this up?

I’m fully anticipating an absolutely retarded, completely nonsensical hire.

I don't think it'll be some off the wall, leftfield type choice just cos Trestman was that and it blew up so spectacularly that it nearly gave the un-killable Ginny a heart attack.

Other than that i aint got much to say except im very meh about the whole thing. Who's the "nice man". The guy who won't rock the boat, the guy with the best polished shoes. Thats probably who it'll be.

That plus a guy who doesn't use the f-word and one who brings in some JV high school team philosophy: HITS, "Be You". Georgie eats those up.

I’m halfway expecting Drew Petzing because he made Kyler look halfway competent and Poles, confidently, albeit stupidly told everybody at his presser the other day his pick will be “someone nobody is expecting and is outside the box.”

Looks like Vrabel is off the board. At least the Patriots knew what they wanted.

It pisses me off that this team had over a month since firing Flus to figure out what they wanted and why and narrow their search accordingly. They've done the exact opposite. Too many candidates, too many people in the interview room, too many morons calling the shots.

I’m alright with Vrabel not being the guy here. Never saw the appeal, didn’t want him.

The guy crashed and burned with a talented Tennessee team (even after trading away AJ Brown,) going 6-18 in his last 24 games and those who want him never really could explain what he’s learned or why he’s going to do differently. He's just “tough,” whatever the fuck that means/is worth.

The whole wide net, including flying Ron Rivera out to Halas for an in person interview—is exhausting. Do you even know what you want? How does a wide net and all these perspectives provide that? Wouldn’t that method muddy the waters?

This was the time to be direct, not try to give the appearance you’re trying.

It's hard to find what you're looking for when you have no clue what you're even looking for.
Maybe it's a clever tagline to buy into? like "Be You" or "Hits Principle"
What is the prototypical hat size for an NFL head coach anyway? because I'm sure Poles is all over that.
Who has the highest GQ ranking? When it comes to the Bears, the qualities of a head coach may not be so much what they bring to the field as what they bring to the camera. This organization is about the optics.

So Jerry jones was just being a prick, never negotiated a new contract with Mike McCarthy, and now says they are moving on. Starting midnight Tuesday into Wednesday this week, his cowboy contract is up and teams can talk to him, per Schefter/Rapaport

    Fuck…Just fuck.

The saints apparently really want to talk with him still. May they have all the urgency in the world.

I also am expecting someone like Petzing. Someone who had a brief glimmer of success. Poles and the McCaskey's love the longshots, bet on that 99:1 HC candidate.

I read the Bears are still interested too. I could see this or Pete Carroll still happening.

The one thing I am sure of, it will not be one of the big names, Johnson/Monken (and Vrabel was off the table the minute the Pats decided they wanted him).

But don’t worry, because they’re dumb and they’ll keep the 4-3 ‘cover who,’ Mike Zimmer is probably the DC hire who can help the new, outside the box HC be a “leader of men.”

At this point it has to be a real concern that any serious candidate would see red flags in how the Bears are going about their search and would turn down an offer from them.

The just keep adding candidates. Packers OC Adam Stenavich to interview.

Schefter confirms McCarthy interviews Wednesday. Fucking no clue what that fat fuck brings to the table at this point.

I think they feel like they're the best job in town. If you felt any sense of urgency - like you might lose "your guy" - you wouldn't be interviewing the entire neighborhood and their cousins. I don't mind interviewing a lot of people - sure, have your options - but understand that if you lose a good coach to another team, it's your own damn fault. The good coaches aren't going to sit around waiting for you to make up your mind, and you'd know that if you didn't have your head so far up your own ass. Georgie can't get anything wrong, in his mind. He couldn't just admit it in his press conference, even when pressed on it multiple times.

Also, is it Poles wanting to interview every human being over the age of 18? Because if so, fire that fucker now. And if it's Georgie boy wanting all these interviews, just fire Poles now, too - if you don't trust him to make a hire or lead a search, do us all a favor and send his ass home. It's just so fucking dumb that we're here again for like the fourth time. The worst version of groundhog day.

Also, I don't think there's a coach in the running who is going to fix this team, so I don't care. Until Georgie boy and Poles are gone (not just one - both), it's just putting a band-aid on an open wound. It's not fixing the problem.

This tells me he doesn't have a specific vision for this team and has no idea what he is even looking for. He may want it to appear to Warren that he is being diligent, but we all know he is in over his head.
Poles is thinking, hmmmm if they only had a Head Coach Combine.

Dude calm down. They haven’t even been able to interview most of their candidates due to them playing this past weekend in the playoffs. There are new rules that stipulate when candidates under contract can be interviewed. I hope they aren’t urgent in their search right now because that means they are serious about Caroll/McCarthy/Rivera who they could hire any time they want.

If you are like me you want one of the OC’s still in the playoffs. So this is an important week where initial interviews with teams that played this past weekend can happen. All interviews with candidates still employed whether in playoffs or not must be virtual until after the divisional round of the playoffs is over. So all the “if they were serious they would bring them in in person” stuff is BS.

Now I get the whole wide net thing being viewed as a bad look. Hell I thought so myself until I read up on interview rules. If, and it’s a big if the Bears top candidate is actually Ben Johnson he isn’t going to be available for a while anyway. All the people they are getting to know could be candidates in the future for open positions so how can starting a file on them hurt? It’s like scooting players you know you won’t draft. You never know when or if they will become available to you later on.

This is the Bears so they will probably get a sense of urgency now that McCarthy is available and a FA. Which is exactly what we don’t want them to do. Calm and steady is the course we want. No need to rush.

Completely disagree. Slow and steady should have been the plan 3 years ago before Eberflush got hired. Now they’re flip flopped to where a gm with no success in 3 years needs to take it slow and the guy in his first year made the decision in 2 days, the mark of a football retarded franchise.

I don’t know how Ryan Poles sold everybody that this team is ready last spring for a leap (the vignette of him and Waldron in the draft room when he took Odunze asking him if he’s got enough firepower or if he’ll have too much, before the Chicago bears website releases a press memo days later with the headline saying ‘Waldron eager to take over with a “stacked offense”)—but now he’s got to sloooooow it down, because he can’t make a decision in haste when picking a coach.

He should have been fired and he wasn’t, but we’re to believe in his plan, right? We’re also supposed to believe in the plan in how he’s constructing the roster? How Eberflush didn’t meet the standard which is why he was fired and the answer is a coach who can!

How can some teams like the commies get it right in 1 year but now, year 4 of Ryan Poles, they’re still lost in the wilderness with 5 wins as a season best?

A sense of urgency for Poles should be non-negotiable. Or is everything resetting and being “slowed down?” Beat reporters say he’s got 2 years left on his deal/got a 1 year extension, so how is there no urgency for a guy in Poles’ shoes?

Who hasn’t he been able to interview that’s a playoff coach? They were able to virtually meet Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn this past weekend/Friday and Saturday. Who are these “most of their candidates playing this past weekend in the playoffs” and when do the interviews happen? Why have they only met two? Last I checked, you’re correct—they must be virtual as a rule, but no team can block guys from a promotion.

Any coach that was part of the wild card round of the playoffs cannot interview until 3 days after their game has ended and must be done before divisional round of playoffs is over whether they advanced or not. The Chiefs and Lions coaches were able to interview in the window between 3 days after the season ended and the end of wild card weekend because they were on a bye.

Once the divisional round of the playoffs is over teams can start in person interviews with anybody not in the championship round. The bye week before the Super Bowl teams are allowed to perform second interviews only with coaches in the superbowl and they can be done virtual or in person but cannot be hired until the Super Bowl is over.

I hope this cleared it up.

    My wish list is

Ben Johnson. Initial interview done. Have to wait until after divisional round if they are bounced or Super Bowl by week if they advance for second interview.

Joe Brady. Can be interviews for first time this week.

Todd Monkin. Can be interviewed for first time this week.
