Rumors are that Deshawn Watson is unhappy and might seek a trade, he of course just signed a huge contract and will cost a huge ransom of draft pick capitol. So you are now the Kevin Colbert, would you make this move?? I would not, I know draft picks are a hit and miss, but over the course of the next few years we need the picks to get younger and to back fill free agent losses. One of those positions is going to be QB and it would be nice to hopefully have a rookie contract at the franchise QB position for a while to build the team. Not to go from one max contract to another.
If you could assure me that the Steelers would have all the pieces to win a SB in the next two years, I would say fine but the team would probably be a dumpster fire for a while after. If the Steelers draft a QB, it better be a blue chip guy ready to go. They can't hope that some 4th rounder is going to shock the world. In the end, that is in their long term interest because their money could go elsewhere.
correct they can’t afford to gamble with a late round pick, as far as qb’s go anything after the 2nd round is considered a late round pick. The cap pretty much is going to hamper the Steelers chances of keeping everyone for that SB team. The one thing the Steelers are good at is reloading through the draft.
