Beat me to it. Thanks again Parkey and Pace... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...inator-vic-fangio-away-to-be-next-head-coach/
It was pipe dream, that he wouldn't be hired elsewhere. I think we were all kind of holding onto it, but a pipe dream nonetheless. It makes too much sense, it being Denver. When I heard that that was a potential spot, I knew it was the likeliest - personnel fits, they don't have some young franchise QB to adjust to, and I don't think Elway cares that Fangio is a bit of a hardass. Real bummer, losing him. I'm interested to see how he does as a head coach - wishing him all the best, especially it not being our conference.
Apparently Matt Nagy has been in contact with Todd Bowles and Bowles has the option of joining Bruce Arians in Tampa Bay....he was Arians DC in Arizona....or possibly coming to Chicago to fill Fangio's place. If Bowles has an eye on becoming a HC again....coaching a unit primed for success like the Bears could be really attractive.
The report right now is that if he isn't promoted...he's gone and could end up with Fangio. Donatell is not under contract.
Bears should have no issue getting someone good. Outside of every still open HC spot....the Bears DC job has to be the most attractive job open. You inherit a really good defense....the HC isn't gonna interfere with you much at all. It's ideal. Bears don't need to rush this.
Buddy Ryan once departed the Bears and while they were initially okay...they were never as dominant again. Ron Rivera was basically fired and the defense didn't recover. This isn't a great feeling today.
I I agree the talent is in place , it's a desired job for sure , don't rush make the right decision .
Not the end of the world. D is still as talented as anyone in the league. We have to expect a little drop off even if Fangio had stayed given that the takeaway volume was unsustainable. Bowles is off the board as he going to Tampa. Marinelli turned the unit around from 2010-2012 after Rivera left.
Yeah that was after Bob Babich and Lovie Smith himself couldn't fix it. Not exactly ideal. Not saying that would happen again. Just sayin.
Did he make that decision today because current reports on twitter and elsewhere have been down to a decision between TB and the Bears.
We also had a shit ton of injuries those years. Urlacher, Brown, Harris, Vasher (which he never recovered) all got hurt in those years and our depth sucked. Lovie and Babich thought guys like Adam Archuleta could play. But yeah definitely not ideal.
Former Jets coach Todd Bowles, who was fired last month after three straight losing seasons in New York, will join Arians in Tampa Bay as defensive coordinator, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...alizing-deal-make-bruce-arians-new-head-coach
