http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article203014489.html Getting a player like this would ease my mind considerably... as long as Pace doesn’t go full retard (slim hope there).
I want a player like that but not via a trade. The Dolphins will want draft picks.....we need all of our draft picks.
But wait - he's signing a franchise tag. Doesn't that carry a necessary return, to it? Or is there a technicality that, if he signs the offer with Miami, and then Miami trades him independent of the tag, that the price can be whatever they choose? I love Landry, as a player. Watching him down here the last few years, it's been obvious that he was often the only player worth noting on that offense. Other than salary cap concerns, I can't fathom a reason they would want him out. I would love to have him as a Bear, but would be fearful that his wear over his first few years takes its toll. The guy is so high-energy, and so heavily leaned on / worked... will he be able to sustain that for a new team and a new contract? Or does he come down with "I got paid" syndrome... As competitive as he is, if he can come here with a desire to win, and Chicago can get him thinking this is a team on the rise, not just a place to collect a paycheck, he'll be a complete stud, no matter the price.
Which is the equivalent of a mid 3rd rounder on the draft value chart. There's no way in hell i'd part with a 3rd round pick equivalent for Landry AND pay him $14-15mil a season. I admit the security blanket he'd provide for Trubisky is attractive, but overall Landry is just such a low impact player. He's just not a difference maker, but we're expected to give up 3rd round value and pay him difference maker money? I'm not paying that much personally, in fact i don't even think its necessary. The Dolphins are not in a strong bargaining position at all. They're so up against the CAP that they can't afford the tag number anyway, this is just a desperate attempt to get a draft pick for a player who is gone anyway. All you're actually paying for is the exclusive rights to negotiate with Landry, thats it. The most i'd do is swap 1st round picks and have them throw in a 5th-6th rounder. Or swap 1st round picks and also swap our higher 4th rounder for their 3rd rounder. That would get it done, and given the Dolphins weak position is achievable is Pace is prepared to play hard ball.
Unless they have multiple suitors that can be played off against each other, it wouldn't be dumb. In fact it could bring them within range of the 3rd QB in the draft.... The Dolphins are weak as F in this.
The big rumor now is the Ravens really want him too. However, they have 9 and change million in cap space as we speak, and the bears just opened up a lot of room. But I don't know or care enough enough about the Ravens' most cut-likely players. I believe if they want him enough, they'll pay whatever it takes to get him. And they may or may not beat what the bears can offer. Hopefully Pace doesn't end up looking like a clown if this indeed has traction...... I'd swap 1sts for Landry in a second.
Browns have been mentioned in the race for Landry and they have deep pockets right now to give him the fat contract he wants.
Any team with the cap space will be able to give him what he wants $$$ wise. Its going to come down to who will pay the most for the right to give him that $$$$
Moon Mullen reporting Jordan Howard/Jarvis Landry swap with picks included in talks. Blang may get his "I told you so" yet.....
Reported that’s what Miami asked for... but it’s supposedly already dead. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/03/03/source-jarvis-landry-jordan-howard-trade-is-a-no-go/
Thank goodness. I would've lost it. Even if the argument that Nagy can't do as much as he'd like with Howard holds water, he's got more value than to essentially trade for a guy that has to be traded, anyway.
Fuller gets transition tag. I think its the right move. Not quite as much $$ as franchise tag and lets the market set his price. Bears have the cap space to avoid teams from trying to front load a deal and stealing him.
Good to see you around, AF1! Yeah, I think we're all hoping that, once things kick off in earnest, Chicago will be big players for real talent. Some of us don't think Pace can do it, but are hoping nonetheless (myself included).
I am most interested in seeing what if any influence the new coaching staff, Nagy especially, have on Pace’s roster moves going forward. It seems obvious now that Fox didn’t bring much to the talent evaluation process. I am sure he gave his 2 cents on possible moves but he wasn’t pro active by any means. Nagy strikes me as a different coach. Someone who is on the front lines when it comes to the search for talent that he wants on his team. Granted his expertise lies with the offense but that side of the ball has been the major issue when it comes to evaluating talent especially in free agency. Monday is when deals can start to be negotiated. Here’s hoping things get off to a much better start than last year.
I honestly haven’t been following anything except for the scores during the season. I’m with you, from what I can tell I don’t think he can but I always hope.
Haha! Been taking care of my growing family! Had another son....you know how it goes. I see it’s still tough being a fan of these team. Been bleeding blue and orange for so long, surprised I have any left. I’ve taken a page out of Ev’s book and drink more Scotch or Irish whiskey. Takes the edge off!
