So far the word is that x-rays were negative. The ankle injury is a sprain. More evaluations are being done today, but ESPN's Vaughan McClure has reported that it's apparently not all that serious. So Matthews may miss a little time, but apparently the team will be expecting him back fairly soon. Eric Weems was active but did not play. He was the only player on the 46-man active roster for either team that did not participate in the game. The coaching staff wanted to get Gabe Carimi some work, so he had actually rotated in at RT before Matthews was injured. The interesting decision was to flip Carimi to LT and put Holmes back in at RT rather than moving Holmes to the left side. While Holmes has worked extensively on the left side, it was basically a new position for Carimi. He struggled a bit (PFF graded him extremely harshly), but for the most part he held his own. When you consider we were already down two left tackles and had essentially thrown him in cold on the left side, he did okay. Actually practicing at that position this week should help in case the team needs him to play there again.
It was a good win for the falcons. The offense is going to be fun to watch all year. Devin Hester, impressive. Of coarse the defense, which we knew would be a liability. All spring and summer everyone wanted to know where the pass rush would come from. We still don't know. TD needs to find a pass rusher, I know easier said then done.
