Its being reported (On Steelers Depot) the Steelers have hired Karl Dunbar to take over coaching the DL and Tom Bradley as the DB coach.
On Steelers official website as well http://www.steelers.com/news/articl...ks-coach/233451fd-a1d6-49b5-95a5-59b4114e2813 http://www.steelers.com/news/articl...ne-coach/53216274-c906-474e-a2a7-f46181d8d0c4 Mitchell to remain assistant head coach
Mitchell has been a top DL coach for much of his career, didn’t even know they were looking for a DL coach. Not sure about Bradley, don’t believe his time as DC for UCLA went very well. Then again it’s hard to say Lake did much of anything the past few years either.
His time in Penn State was pretty good and it makes you wonder if he is being brought in to push Butler or be the new DC if the D doesnt step forward next year. His fist year in UCLA was pretty good.
That eases my concerns some. Maybe he does push Butler, but if this past season wasn’t enough to get him fired makes you think what will it take? I rarely ever call for coaches to be fired but even I felt Butler should go...It’s maddening because they started out so well, and then by the end it was just horrible. I’m hoping Mike Mitchell is gone and they draft a good replacement in April. Or Wilcox pans out and still draft a Safety early.
I could understand Harrison a bit more than Wilcox. Harrison had Watt, Dupree, Chickillo, and Moats ahead of him, with Watt, Chickillo and Moats all having major roles on ST. That said, I felt they could’ve sat Chickillo and dressed Harrison and had him play 10-20 snaps a game, especially down the stretch once Matakavich could contribute on ST after his injury. Didn’t feel Chickillo was doing much on D and felt his ST could be replaced. Wilcox had a few bonehead penalties on ST, but they put up with it from Shamarko Thomas a few years and he couldn’t contribute anything on D. Mitchell was obviously hobbled much of the year, and should have been sat down a couple more games to heal. Wilcox was a viable option to spot start, or spell Golden if they went that route...
You can change the carousel all you want, this defense overall, including the secondary......will NOT improve unless Dupree starts playing like the 22nd overall drafted player he was brought in to be. He should be a wrecking ball for us at OLB at this point. And yet...............he only REGRESSED as last year went along to a virtual NON-FACTOR in any facet of the game the last month of the season.
This draftnwill be a key one to watch. Tomlin is a 4-3 guy both of these hires are 4-3 guys pending on how draft and free agency goes it could indicate a move to 4-3.
