Rumors circling he may not be ever returning to the Bears and that the reason may not be football related. Eberflus wouldn't even comment on whether Williams is still employed by the team. Braxton Jones to IR with a neck injury. Fields blamed his robotic play on coaching. Great day at Halas Hall.
Hard to imagine how this could be worse, two games in. Your potential franchise QB looks like he's never played football before, and is outright blaming it on coaching - which makes perfect sense, when you look at how he's regressed. The roster is garbage and the few young, key players that the team is counting on (whether they're any good or not) are out with injury. You've got coaching drama unfolding and a team that's not willing to be at all transparent on even what the plan is going forward. Meanwhile, the GM is sitting in the box looking dumbfounded after giving a smiley presser with his pal just the week before. It really is a complete clown show. The team as it is, right now, will not win a game this season. Let's see what changes, if anything.
And just to speculate, with this Williams thing: it must be some off-field drama, because his performance in week one definitely wasn't worse than anyone on the O side. Or, Eberflus sees it as a useful scapegoat because he knows he can take over the defense, but can't do so on the offense. But I would figure that would be handled differently. So I'm guessing this staff is just as dysfunctional behind the scenes as we have all assumed.
Could be a very personal situation such as an illness or marital issue. Although given that Flus didn't comment I'm wondering if it's a personality clash between him and Williams. He's only making it worse on himself if he comes out lays another egg on Sunday, he needs a huge game and a win to not make himself look worse. Now he'll have "lack of accountability" to add to one of his many shortcomings.
I think Justin is really feeling the heat and doesn't seem mature enough to own up to the problems he's had on the field. Yeah, coaching is bad, but Fields has been just as bad. He can't fix the coaching so he should shut up about it publicly.
I don't know. He's never been the type to make shithead remarks to the press so I don't really have a issue with what he said today.
If I suck at my job, I'm not in a position to point fingers at others, even if they suck just as much. You don't last long in a work environment with that mentality. You gotta be accountable for yourself.
Might be a situation where he's suspended pending investigation. I don't even know if the details being shared are legit. One report said Charles Tillman, who works for the FBI, was one of the first to call the Bears organization and tell them something was going down.
I don't think what Justin did today was just point fingers though. He was asked why he is staying in the pocket so long and he said it's what he has been coached to do. That's an honest answer. He also said missing open receivers is 100% his own fault. Listen to all his post game and midweek comments and pressers. He's not deflecting blame. The guy has stood up in front of his teammates more than once and apologized for not being better. He has a lot of issues to work on....I don't think accountability is one of them.
Peanut works for the FBI? Didn't think it was possible for him to be any cooler. I haven't listened to them all, so glad to hear he's not deflecting blame. I see a tweet about him saying "coaching" as a reason for his struggles and I assume the worst.
I still think he should've avoided mentioning "coaching", even if it is true and even if Getsy agreed.
Yeah, I figured it was something bigger off-field. The indicators were there. You get instructed to say NOTHING about those situations, and that's what the Bears are doing right now. I don't know if the raid reports are true, but I'm sure this is something legal / criminal / etc. It's likely gonna get uglier.
