Max Scherzer (13-0) vs. Derek Holland (7-4) and the Rangers tonight. Hopefuly the Tigers bats can keep it up for Max. Tigers (51-41) need the win to continue to stay out in front of the Indians who trail by just 2 1/2 games. A closer race than I would have thought at this stage of the season. Miggy likes hitting against Holland...he's just five RBIs shy of 100, is hitting a major league-best .418 against left-handers. He's 3 for 3 with two homers against Holland this year. This ought to be a good game tonight...the pitchers better be on because these two teams can bash a baseball.
Max didnt get any run support tonight. He gave up 4 earned runs through 6 innings and struckout 6. Still, even if the Tigers dont come back...13-1 is pretty good. A late inning rally would be nice.
let's see if i can get away with some hotlinking... brothers? ps: since i know *I* have trouble identifying pictures, i'll specify that the first one is actor edward burns.
Justin Verlander held Texas hitless until the seventh inning, and the Detroit Tigers backed their ace with three home runs in a 5-0 victory over the Rangers on Sunday. Tigers holding onto a 1 1/2 game lead on Cleveland. That outing today should have racked up some points for you You can always count on Verlander to stop a slide and get the Tigers back on track.
The All-Star break will play good and bad roles for the players. Victor had been lighting it up this month and I am hoping this doesn't cool him off much. The bullpen outside of Smyly and Benoit could use a break to maybe get their heads on straight.
I agree...Victor certainly is heating up nicely. I think the break will do him some good though...atleast for healing up anything that might be ailing him. He's sure got the hitting going and it really helps keep that lineup dangerous. Good protection now for Prince. That bullpen worries me too. They better get things right ASAP. Good divisional races going on at the break right now. Should be an exciting race down the stretch. Tigers need to put some distance between them and the Indians. Too close for comfort.
I agree here. While I don't think the Indians will take the tumble they have the last 2-3 years, I wonder if the pitching will hold up for them. I fully expect the Tigers to go out and get some kind of bullpen help. As I stated earlier, Benoit and Smyly have been the only consistent arms in the pen. The rest have been cabbage, especially Coke.
Max Scherzer has been named AL starter. He will be dualing against Matt Harvey of the Mets Tuesday. Leyland has a pretty good lineup to deal with. Miguel Cabrera will be hitting 3rd. Davis with his 37 home runs bats clean up...37 dingers, wow.
yeah but only very earned his. what had burns ever done that was so great? the brother mcmullin? please!!
I do too...and I think they will and just basically have to. This is the season for the Tigers to go all in and try to take advantage of the opportunities they have. The window to go to and win the World Series doesnt stay open to long in these days of parity. Not sure who they could sign though...I will follow closely and see what happens. I would think if their going to make a move, it would be real soon.
The Tigers signed right-hander Jeremy Bonderman to a Triple-A contract Sunday, marking his return to the Detroit organization. After being designated for assignment by the Mariners on Monday, Bonderman signed with Detroit and will report to Triple-A Toledo for a game in Buffalo on Thursday. Good luck to Bondo...
