DeMarco Murray

Interesting observation on ProFootballTalk: with all then news flying around about free agents ready to sign contracts with other teams (Suh, Maclin, Maxwell, Gore, McPhee), it was noted there hasn't been a PEEP about DeMarco Murray.

Zip, zero, nada - nothing. No rumors about a team like the Jags or Raiders (who have tons of cap space) preparing to make a run at him. Nothing about the Colts (who are a contender, have ample cap space, and need an RB desperately) getting ready to make an offer he can't refuse.

That's great news for us. I have to think that Dallas will be prohibitive favorites to at least make the NFC championship game if we are somehow able to sign him.

DeMarco Murray has deleted all his Cowboys' references on his twitter account. I don't think this is big news. I think he considers himself a free agent, because there is no agreed upon contract or talk of a contract in over a week with the Cowboys. Therefore he removed the Cowboy references. He is just making his availability known to the Cowboys and other teams. If you want him, he is available to negotiate.

Tyron Smith's contract was restructured to free up 8 million in cap space. I think that could be to make DeMarco an attractive offer or to sign some much needed linebackers. If we can get Murray and our linebackers signed, I definitely would project us to be one of the top 3 teams in the NFC going into the draft.

I think it's a bit of posturing, but hell - that's to be expected on both sides.

I would think that's a sign that Dallas wants to make sure they have enough room to address any offer Murray might receive. Jerruh said he doesn't have a number in mind - he has a range in mind, and within that range he has "serious flexibility."

Out of McClain, Durant and Carter, we're probably going to have to accept that - at best - we're only getting two back.

  6. Garrett met with Murray last night......very interesting.

Personally, I wouldnt pay more than 6 mil a year for 4, not sure on guaranteed money either.

Draft that kid from Indiana in the 2nd round....his measureables are better or just as good as Murray and hes a burner.

    Draft, draft, draft!!!!!!!

Heard that, too - met at a hoops game, then continued the discussion later at another site. I like hearing that - keep communication going, and keep him from visiting the Jags and Raiders!

Coleman's a bit smaller than Murray - 5'11 - 206, but their overall body types are similar, and their game is similar. Even if we re-sign Murray, I wouldn't mind grabbing Coleman.

Two down - Mathews signed with Philly.

Mathews is hesitating signing, because of Philly's interest in DeMarco Murray. So he hasn't officially signed. DeMarco is expected to sign in Philly before the end of the day. His family is tweeting that he is going to Philly. It may be posturing to get Dallas to guarantee more money. Looks Jerry is not worried about losing DeMarco at all. He must really have a good plan B, that is just as good as signing DeMarco.

I think there's some definite "play them against each other" tactics on Murray's part...just as Dallas is waiting to see what the Birds' offer will be to see if we can match (or get close).

Oh, I wouldn't say he's not worried. Who's the "Plan B" - CJ Spiller? Trading away a bunch of draft picks for Adrian Peterson? Ignoring a DE or CB in the first round because we now have to take an RB...? Some combination of the above?

I think Dallas planned all along to bring Murray back (or, at least, make a VERY strong run at him). I DON'T think for one minute they envisioned division rivals Philly making such a hard play.

Also, keep in mind, that in waiting to see what offer(s) Murray would get, we've let guys like Dwayne Harris, Bruce Carter, and Justin Durant walk out the door, and we've missed out on talking with DT Stephen Paea and CB Antonio Cromartie.

This is taking too long. Tyron Smith's contract was restructured to free up cap space. If we ended up saving a little on DeMarco's contract or even saving at all now that Philly is in the mix, how will we be able to get any quality free agents anyway? Players are on the move and signing left and right. I'm just trying to understand how is all this waiting benefiting the team? We still don't have a starting running back, Spiller may sign soon, trading for AP would mean giving up draft picks, we need a couple of linebackers and corners, Carr hasn't taken a pay cut, and we still may end up paying Dez that huge franchise tag. The draft is only 7 rounds with on average only 3 players giving us some good production as rookies. Jerry must be hoping AP will be released, but then the whole league will be after him? Just a few questions, that I'm hoping to get answered in a timely fashion. Lol

I think we were waiting on DeMarco, thinking we'd get him back in the fold; that waiting hurt. Some good free agents have now signed elsewhere.

BUT...I remember thinking last year we didn't get anything in free agency, and some signees actually played pretty well.

    No need to panic yet...

  16. Draft draft draft boys......Gurley or Gordon will be there at 27.

  17. Heard this on espn dallas on the possibility of picking up Darren Mcfadden & going with ryan williams & drafting someone.

If mcfadden can stay healthy I think he could run wild behind this line.

Gurley or Gordon is a possibility, but if a quality DE is there at #27 (think Owamagbe Odighizuwa, Preston Smith) we could go there first, and swing back for Duke Johnson or Tevin Coleman (who has been compared to Murray) in Round 2.

McFadden has my interest, as does Stevan Ridley and Knowshon Moreno. Maybe even Ahmad Bradshaw. At this point I wouldn't go expensive at RB UNLESS we could somehow get AP at a reasonable rate. Between a seasoned vet, an impact rookie, and Ryan Williams, I think we'd be okay.
