    So...

Will Brinson of CBS(ucks) has put out his annual NFL Starting QB rankings.

At first when I saw it, I thought the guy was on crack. Not specifically because he had Cutler at 19, but because of who he thinks is better....

    Here's his list:

    1. Aaron Rodgers, Packers:
    2. Tom Brady, Patriots:
    3. Peyton Manning, Broncos:
    4. Drew Brees, Saints:
    5. Eli Manning, Giants:
    6. Matt Ryan, Falcons:
    7. Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers:
    8. Tony Romo, Cowboys:
    9. Joe Flacco, Ravens:
    10. Cam Newton, Panthers:
    11. Matthew Stafford, Lions:
    12. Russell Wilson, Seahawks:
    13. Andrew Luck, Colts:
    14. Colin Kaepernick, 49ers:
    15. Robert Griffin III, Redskins:
    16. Philip Rivers, Chargers:
    17. Josh Freeman, Buccaneers:
    18. Sam Bradford, Rams:
    19. Jay Cutler, Bears:
    20. Ryan Tannehill, Dolphins:
    21. Michael Vick, Eagles:
    22. Alex Smith, Chiefs:
    23. Matt Schaub, Texans:
    23. Andy Dalton, Bengals:
    24. Christian Ponder, Vikings:
    25. Jake Locker, Titans:
    26. Carson Palmer, Cardinals:
    27. Brandon Weeden, Browns:
    28. Blaine Gabbert, Jaguars:
    30. Geno Smith or Mark Sanchez, Jets:
    31. Matt Flynn, Raiders
    32. EJ Manuel or Kevin Kolb, Bills:

I think the names that stick out to me and make me scratch my head are:

    Tony Romo
    Cam Newton
    Russell Wilson
    Josh Freeman
    Sam Bradford

And Ryan Tannehill is only 1 notch below?

    He says this about Cutler:

"Some will probably argue that Cutler should be higher, and maybe he will be after Marc Trestman actually allows him to sling the ball. For a long time, Cutler's been hampered by playing under a defense-first organization that liked to focus on the run. He's also got an offensive line that won't do its best running-of-the-bulls imitation in 2013."

Now, when you watch him play, and see his talent throwing the ball, you would be an idiot to rank him at 19. You'd be an idiot not to rank him ion the top 10 - easily.

You'd be a bigger idiot to rank Sam Bradfor above him.

Now, don't get me wrong, Cutler did regress statistically last season. But here is where I stand on it.

Cutler is the best QB we've ever had in Chicago. And his physical ceiling is probably as high as the top 5 or 6 guys on the list.

But ranking him below Cam Newton and Sam Bradford is a slap in the face. You see how he notes Testman and a new line and has removed those as excuses. I think this is just the start of the "Jay has no excuses" media frenzy. This could be a very tough media year - even here in Chicago - for Cutler.

Emery not signing him to an extension tells me that he's not sold on him, and this season will either be Cutlers last as a Bear or first of many where he should receive pro-bowl consideration.

I think it is unfair, but his head will be on the block.

#19 seems way too low because we see what he can do every week, but the numbers are not there to rank him any higher in these type of things.

On paper the offense is better, but I see depth concerns all across the board. On both sides of the ball.

Talent wise.........he's much better than 19.

And he obviously makes the team better when he is on the field and you have to take that into account. Just look at any game from the past couple seasons that he didn't play.

But as far as stats go...........19 is probably fair. We live in a fantasy football, big numbers equal success, type of world now adays. That's why Stafford is 11............because if you throw the ball 700 times and rack up a crap ton of yards and score a lot of fantasy points...........actual wins and losses no longer matter.

    Fair.

Stats wise, last year was a definite regression. But then why not include Wins and Losses in your stats? Aren't they the most important?

This assessment seems to go back to the same pathetically retarded logic/stats used by any average high school kid boasting about his QB being better than yours... Yardage.

Wouldn't you expect a little more from someone who does this for a living?

    Sam Bradford? Really?

That is why as far as I am concerned, we re-sign him and continue to surround him with weapons.

BUT his decision making needs to improve. He needs to start looking off Marshall this year. The supporting cast should and has to be better.

    Damn front runner...

Imagine Joe Namath in today's game. Or Terry Bradshaw.

QBs that didn't have impressive stats but knew how to win football games. Today's fans would tear them apart because they wouldn't be putting up 300 yard games all the time.

Preaching to the choir Mongo. These type of rankings are based on stats, but when I watch the Bears play, I want Jay Cutler under center. His W/L record is very good.

Too lazy right now, but can you look up his record compared to all other QBs since he was traded to the Bears? I am guessing top 10...

I say, pile on the pressure! The more pressure he is under, the better he will look if he comes out of it good.

If he doesn't and he buckles under, then no thanks. You don't win championships with guys that buckle under the pressure. Look at Flacco? Usually the guy is average, but he goes on a run under pressure and now has a ring. Look at Te'o? Buckled big time.

Hell, even Ray Finkle was run out of town when he buckled!

No, I say pile it on, let Trestman set him up for success, use that o-line to their strengths (if they have any) and let him come out smelling like a rose.

Remember, we didn't draft a QB and though Emery not extending him is a sign that he isn't sold on him; not shoring up the #2 QB on the roster with a draft pick (and some good ones were there) means that he is probably leaning on keeping the guy.

    Just my 2 cents...

We addressed this in another thread. What do we do at that point?

QBs don't grow on trees. I mentioned selling the draft for Johnny football...

I don't see how the Bears could find a better QB than Cutler.

If the guy buckles under pressure; he is worthless in the post season. Not trying to get someone who won't is worse. You can't just keep a guy that can't handle pressure. You have to move on.

Personally, I think he can handle it...but if he doesn't, we have to move on to someone else. Whether we think in the short term whether it is better or not, you have to move when you are in a dead end.

19 is way too low. Where they have Romo is crazy. He's the 8th best qb in the NBA? On what planet? Also lets see what happens with the new golden children aka Wilson, Kap, RGIII, and Newton, as the defenses adjust to the read offense.

If Cutler can't handle it, we may not have to sell the draft to get Manziel. He may be available when we draft...

  14. Mongo_76 Guest

That would be a remarkable feat...

I see where you are coming from in theory. I just have seen no reason to question his ability in the clutch/playoffs thus far IMO. There is no logical reason to question his toughness.

This is a big year for Cutler.

  16. I wonder how this guy ranks his daily priorities? Oh, wait a second...he works at CBS.

  17. AmericanFlyer1 Franchise Player Bears

Believe me, I am not questioning his toughness. Just having to look at all sides of the coin should he falter.

Trust me, I don't want him to.

  18. Scotty Guest

I hear you. I have went down that road and I don't like the options...

  19. Go Bearsssss Franchise Player Bears

If I remember correctly, this ranking system was not exactly a straight up 1-32 ranking. He grouped the QBs into categories.

If we just assume this is a straight up ranking, I don't have too much of a problem with it. The only ridiculous ones are: Russel Wilson, Sam Bradford, Tony Romo, Cam Newton. Now I might disagree with some other ones, but those 4 are the only ones that he REALLY missed on.

  20. I don't care for these kind of rankings... Too many factors in play that affect any given QBs success or failure, primarily the OL. Troy Aikman was a very good QB, but HoF? Absolutely not, he was very fortunate to play behind the best OL I've seen in my lifetime.

That said, as a Bears fan, I can't be objective. 19 is absurd.

Maybe it's my age, but damn I despise posting from my mobile.
