Crazy observation - and possible roster and practice squad lists

The Falcons started the roster cuts today, releasing 12 players. Pat Angerer broke the news this morning, saying on Twitter that his time in Atlanta had come to an end. The other cuts were Nosa Eguae, Yawin Smallwood, Josh Vaughan, Freddie Martino, Maurice Hagens, Jordan Mabin, Pat McQuistan, Donte Rumph, Jacob Pedersen, Adam Replogle, and Kimario McFadden.

Now for the crazy observation: the Falcons also did the final cuts over two days in 2011. And when the team announced the initial practice squad, there were seven signings - all of them from the SECOND day of roster cuts.

(Later they announced that one of the first day cuts, TE prospect Marquez Branson, had been signed to fill out the eighth spot on the practice squad. Apparently they were looking to sign someone else, and it didn't work out.)

This year we have new eligibility rules regarding the practice squad, and the squad has expanded from eight players to ten. Releasing 12 players today brings the remaining roster down to 63, which is exactly enough for the roster and the new practice squad.

Yeah, it's a stretch. But here's how it could work:

    ROSTER:

    Ryan / Yates / DiMarco / SJax / Quizz / Antone / Freeman
    Toilolo / Pascoe / Roddy / Julio / Douglas / Hester / Weems / Roby
    Matthews / Blalock / Hawley / Asamoah / Holmes / Schraeder / Gunn / Carimi / Konz
    Bryant / Bosher / Harris
    Soliai / Jackson / Hageman / Robertson
    Babs / Peters / Goodman / Matthews
    Osi / Biermann / Massaquoi / Maponga
    Bartu / Worrilow / Shembo / Dobbins
    Trufant / Alford / McClain / Arenas / Wilson / Allen
    Moore / Lowery / Southward / Ishmael

    Practice squad:
    Renfree, Reedy, Boldewijn, Ebert, Shuler
    Stone, T.Jones, Starr, J.Smith, Baker

We'll see how it plays out tomorrow.
