Getting this started a little early. Eberflus said today that he'll be taking over playcalling duties and that current DC Williams will not be traveling with the team to Tampa. The latter part of that is what interests me - the fact that he's not even traveling with the team may mean there's a more significant change coming than just one game, here. Somebody's gotta get fired after that fiasco in week one. I guess maybe Williams ends up being the fall guy. Maybe Getsy still has a job because they haven't finished tallying up all the fuck ups from week one film, yet?
To anyone who might be optimistic that there are changes on the horizon, I'm reading that this is about "personal reasons". But if the personal reasons are, "We're firing people", that will make me happy. Let's hope Getsy and Flus are on the block, too.
Your second post makes this make more sense. The team has actually taken a LOT of heat for that game and that performance and its great to see. I can imagine the idiots inside the building being a little shocked at the blowback they've received, which in turn will increase the pressure on them. GOOD! That said, a firing after one game, even one that bad and from a person so inept, would've been a real surprise. Its just not what the culture of this organization is. Tough decisions are delayed and put off as long as humanly possible. They don't ever grasp the nettle earlier so as to benefit themselves further down the road. I'm looking forward to seeing Eberflus call the plays tho. If he sucks ass as bad as Williams then it proves what i suspect which is that time has long since passed by this bum ass system. If things improve and we see better in game calls and more production then it shows Williams is a floating turd. There should be a win one way or the other. At least thats the positive spin im trying to put on this shit.
What's immensely frustrating is how inevitable this was in appearance and flat out predictable when Williams got hired. I wasn't the only one going 'wait a minute, he somehow managed a worse defensive unit than Mel Tucker's with 2/3 future HOF players (Harrison Smith--granted he was a rookie, Jared Allen--in his prime, you can also make an argument for Kevin Williams--also in his prime--statistically even though he's been snubbed a time or two in Canton). And this guy fucked up worse than Mel Tucker figuring out how Lance Briggs was a follower, not a field marshal way 54 was. How regular fucking fans saw this coming, while the franchise just didn't bothers me--especially since the franchise likes to do the whole 'well we see what they're like in meetings/in situations that aren't on TV.' You're spinning your wheels in an outdated system where you can't get pressure and you play soft fucking zone to compensate, the kind of scheme that the packers spent the better part of 60 minutes this past Sunday bitch slapping and backhanding. If Flus can't make Baker Mayfield, who's on his 4th team in 6 years--look uncomfortable and confused as he has his entire shitty career by middling defenses, I don't see why he should continue to be a HC, and I will own being wrong when the story of Poles' final 3 candidates for HC being Flus, Dan Quinn, and Jim Caldwell of my preference. Tampa's all pro C Ryan Jensen is out for the year, Tampa is also starting a 2nd round rookie who's a statue/not a mover from a division 2 school at RG. Matt Feiler at LG got a big payday from the Chargers a year or two ago before they cut him this past winter because he doesn't have it anymore at 31/32, and he's also a statute/not a mover/a better zone pass blocker at 6'6 330 lbs, so Pickens and Dexter should have no excuses, and FLus his his first area to attack the other teams' offense. Wirfs isn't special, but he and Goedeke are solid OTs, but I expect Ngokue to get back on the stat sheet. Blow up the goddamned interior. You pay Edmunds a lot of money, blitz him. As for the offense...Tampa has some defensive playmakers out (Kancey, DB Carl Davis), so keep mentally retarded plays to a minimum please.
Nate Davis is out for personal reasons, a death in the family. Would be nice if Ja’Tyre Carter just take the guy’s spot and not give it back.
So this week we had… Reports of low locker room morale. Justin Fields giving answers to the media where he was going out of his way not to throw his coaches under the bus even though it kinda seemed like he wanted to. Threats of Chase Claypool being benched. A report that Claypool insisted on being announced as a starter last Sunday and then putting in a piss poor effort. Alan Williams leaving Halas Hall midweek and hasn’t returned. Great week. What could possibly go wrong today? Flus in extreme danger of completely losing this team Trestman style.
Personally, I am not as emotionally invested in this game after what happened last week but it seems this team needs a win badly, perhaps this is more important than any game since 2019 or 2020. It wouldn't surprise me for the Bears to bounce back and win ugly. It wouldn't surprise me if they completely shit the bed and make last week's performance somehow feel better. The only thing that would surprise me is the offense firing on all cylinders and winning handily. If we get spanked today it's going to be real ugly the rest of the way, think 2014 Trestman Bears. Not that anyone cares but my one bet on this game is DJ Moore over 44.5 receiving yards. I mean, like this has to fucking happen, right? How can getting DJ the ball not be priority #1?
Im worried about Justin making it through this game. J'Tyre Carter means nothing to me until he shows something. The other interior guys suck ass. Vita Vea is taking the lunch money off anyone he sees. The Bucs still have a good front 7 in general and you know Bowles is gonna blitz the ass out of the Bears. Fields not getting injured will be a pqartial win for me no matter the score.
St. Brown inactive Velus Jones active If wide receivers blocking was a problem last week I’m not sure why you don’t make St Brown active. That’s the one thing he’s good at.
We know they want to run the ball and throw passes at the line of scrimmage. If they arent gonna make him active then whats the point of him being on the 53?
That has to happen. If anything they'll overcompensate. It may cause Jutstin to force throws to him which might not end up well. Either way i will be astonished if he doesnt have at least 8 targets in this game. He'll turn that into 45+yards.
