The Buffalo Bills finished 4-0 in the preseason; no loses in the preseason for the first time ever. BFD, the Detroit Lions once went 4-0 preseason and then went 0-16 when it mattered. Still, there are some positive takeaways: - Ty Jackson should be a solid PS QB. He's massive, with a rocket-arm. I was surprised when he went undrafted, and pleased when he signed with the Bills. He looked extremely raw, to put it nicely, in the other preseason games. But he looked sharp in the Bills three TD's in the final 4 minutes (one TD was a punt return) for the comeback win against the Minnesota Willies. - The Bills D should be improved on last season's #2 ranked D. Better does not mean they have to finish at #1 or 2 statistically; they'll just be even harder to play against. - Josh Allen looks markedly better than last year. His decision making is his most impressive progress. He's behind a vastly improved line, and he has much better weapons. Watch the Bills rookie TE D. Knox out of Ole Miss, a steal in the third round. - Much is made about the 25k plus career rushing tandem in the backfield. That gives little credit to that unit's strength. And, I will not be real surprised if Shaddy McCoy is traded this week. The Bills do not really need him. I'm projecting an 11-5 season. Probably good enough for a playoff spot; they're certainly good enough to be on the playoff bubble.
NFL.com is calling this shocking. I am calling it a twist on my observations above. The Buffalo Bills will release Shady McCoy. Obviously they made trade calls, but why give up an asset for someone you think is getting cut? In some ways this is addition by subtraction. This is not being snide about Shady. He's been, uh, colorful. And, he's had some off-field issues, but he's been great for the Bills. They subtract the distraction of being asked about a very-aging backfield and open a spot for a rookie that deserves his reps. (That second point is the key.) I do like that the Bills netted two late round picks for 2 OLers that were cut candidates.
Devin Singletary was the absolute man, down here at FAU. I mean, he is just a determined, talented, relentless runner. I'm a big fan of this kid, and I'm glad to see him getting his shot and a chance to prove it at the NFL level. I think the dude is the real deal. Frank Gore is still out there tearing it up, too. I'm gonna be watching the Bills a lot this year, just to watch these two South Florida guys. Good call on the "Bills don't need McCoy", Dan. Good insight, man.
Also, here's to Adam Schefter saying that, absolutely, unequivocally, no way will the Bills cut McCoy. Even went as far as to call out other people saying that. Granted, it was a month or two ago, but we don't forget, Schefty. Stop throwing shit at the wall. You're awful. Do us a favor and stay home.
I was hoping that the Billz could’ve pulled that one off. I picked them in the office weekly. They had a chance but the Evil Empire wins again.
Allen was the worst player on the field, 13 for 28 for 153 and three picks. The Bills had a chance only after he went down.
That is a valid point. As of right now, it looks like Barkley will go next week also. Also, I read a headline that said; "Whats wrong with the Patriots offense?" Ummm… Buffalo's defense, maybe.
its also what makes EJ Manuel, Kyle Orton, Nathan Peterman and JP Losman. Josh Allen stinks and will hold back this franchise.
Too early to call Allen a bust though, that game had good D on both ends, not an easy day for both qbs.
