BROWNS VS. CHIEFS - WEEK 9

So, do they set out to prove something after getting two guys fired? Or do they lay a big fat egg, with a changing of the guard?

Could this be the start of a new premier passer vs passer rivalry?

What ever the over is in this game, you should probably take it. The Chiefs have one of the worst defenses in the league....but they also have THE best offense.

Hopefully we can keep up ..

Yet somehow they completely shut down Cincinnati last Sunday night....This game scares the hell out of me. Our defense has not played with that same edge since the Chargers game. It can't be ALL because of the Schobert injury. They need to get back into that groove and play that hard nosed defense like we last saw against Baltimore.

Don't be so sure..Schobert was the QB of the defense. They have to get used to a whole new way of getting the play calls. He was excellent at moving players that were out of position.

Mahomes, Kelce, Hunt, Hill and an O-line that's 60% former Browns.

This one will be over in the 2nd quarter.

Need WR's in order to do that. I'm expecting another performance like they had in SD or PITT#2.

It's not going to be due to a changing of the guard. No depth at LB or WR and sub-par OL play are big components. That and the fact they haven't been able to score off of a turnover all year (due to WR and OL issues/OC play calling). They have the same plays on OFF just a new guy calling them. The OFF just doesn't have the working parts to keep up and that will put the DEF on the field more thus tiring them out.

    Browns win 24-21.

Could be, but I think a smarter move would be for the Browns to make this a short game by running the football. We don't want to get into a shootout with Mahomes and their personnel because their skill positions are flat-out better than ours right now.

The Chiefs are averaging 36.25 PPG right now and haven't been held to less than 27 points (Denver). What Denver did in their two games against them was run it 52 times for 348 yards (6.7 YPC). They averaged 28.5 PPG against the Broncos - more than 10 points less per game than their other opponents.

Above all, the Browns cannot abandon the run if they do get behind early.

Outside of Schwartz, they're not good ex-Browns. Cam Erving is still a bum and Austin Reiter is their third string center. To me, that says weakness we should be able to exploit with Garrett and Ogunjobi.

Mahomes is averaging 2.87s time-to-throw... that's 6th worst in the NFL (out of 34 qualified starters). Their success is coming from Andy Reid's concepts and allowing Mahomes to play a college-style game, not because their o-line is winning their match-ups.

You think maybe the worst defense in the NFL is saying "Mayfield, Njoku, Chubb, and Landry"?

    Always the optimist...

It could happen. We did go toe to toe with the Saints and with the Steelers, when we played them in Cleveland...And we beat the Ravens in what seems like 3 months ago....

If the O-line could get it together, I'd be much more optimistic. Browns are getting 8.5 points, and I'm not sure that's enough....Our offense struggled against Tampa, and that is a major concern.

I'd love to see Mayfield win on Sunday in a good ol shootout with Maholmes. I agree that the smart play is to play ball control and work the clock. Try to keep Patrick on the sidelines, but if KC should go up 14 or more, ya know that's goin out the window. I believe if we improve on special teams and stop pinning ourselves deep in our own territory every drive, and eliminate the penalties, that the Browns can compete and possibly even pull the upset....

A big day on the ground from Nick Chubb would certainly help our chances on Sunday. Lets try setting up the run, with the pass. Mix in some first down passing plays. We were getting very predictable , and the Steelers were just teeing off the other day....

KC’s run defense is abysmal. The nfl.com site list Chubb as a must start for FF.

To be fair, Njoku was TE1 for a couple sites last week against Pittsburgh. Zero catches, zero yards, zero touchdowns (and yes, I obviously started him).

Njoku is a must play against the Chiefs too.

    Gotta be!

Call it the Greggggg Williams Effect. He could be exactly what this team needs.

I actually am playing Chubb against KC because he is due for a breakout game. Plus defensive minded HC’s always lean heavy on the run game. I expect Chubb to break 20 points this week.

Well the Browns have shown at times this year that they can play with anybody. Under Gregggg, I'm expecting a big uptick in overall team intensity. They seemed lethargic last Sunday, and they were flat dead against the Chargers...

What does it take for us to just once have a kick return without a penalty for illegal block in the back? How did our special teams coach not get fired? His units have been as bad as can be....

I don't want to get all optimistic and start making bold predictions. The last time I did that was before the LA game....

Which team shows up on Sunday? The one that punched Baltimore in the mouth, or the one that got rolled in Pittsburgh?

We gotta send them a message from the onset that their little trip to Cleveland ain't gonna be no picnic. This game is about attitude and emotion, and it's in the dawg pound. If we let Maholmes get real comfortable, well we know what happens then...

I'm with you SAS, run the ball. Get behind, run the ball. Let's face it,we don't have the recievers to play a wide open game. The two TE set makes a ton of sense to me, especially since both are in fact recieving threats. And now that H&H have departed the building, maybe Duke will get some playing time, which IMO only helps this team.

Callaway can be a deep threat, he can beat people deep, he just can't catch a cold in a bad January. Still I'd send him deep so the safeties can't just crowd the line, while we run the ball.

Winning this game is nearly impossible, but if we can get to Mahonnes and force some turnovers, it could make it a 4th quarter game. Thank God we're really good at pulling them out in the fourth quarter. I like Williams intensity, and hope it infects the O. I hated watching our team sleepwalk through last weeks game.

Higgins returns! I never thought I would be excited about Higs, but I gotta admit, it gives me a narrow breath of hope. He and Baker had some chemistry. I hope the rust isn't too deep.

I like what's been coming from some of the players, practice being more focused, intense, etc....., and I'm sure that is true, but if Sunday looks anything like last week, it will be a true test of Williams and his staff, to keep them up.

Baker is the key. How does he look, is he energized again? Can we clone Ward? Can somebody get Josef a blunt? That boy needs to take a deep breath before he kicks. Who the hell is going to cover all those WRs, and hey Andy, how about loaning us a WR, how about a retrun without a flag, anybody know how to do a rain dance to slow them down.

Can I get an amen for a running game that puts up 200 yds. That would do it, speed up the clock, rest our D, keep Mahones & Co on the sidelines, and wear out their D, allow Baker to survive if not thrive, get the Dawg Pound rockin, and make more of an ass out of Hue.

A man can dream, cant' he?
