Just finishing binge watching The Wire for the second time. I think it may be the greatest show ever. Maybe I'm just in the moment with it. However, I put it up there in my book with Breaking Bad and The Shield. What's your opinions on best show ever? Side not Best sit coms. All in the Family and Seinfeld.
This one is impossible for me. I've been around since before television so I have seen every advancement in both technology and content. The advancements in technology are pretty straight forward but content involves advancements in social morays over time (what was taboo years ago is now mundane). If I had to pick one show . . . I would choose one that has stood the test of time: The Late Show with Johnny Carson.
Carson was my favorite night time host of all time. Have to put some thought into it if I can’t pick a citcom.
SPRESS. I loved the Wire for mainly season 1 and all of the characters in 5 seasons overall. I wasn't a fan of season 2 and the Docks or Season 5 where McNulty starts inventing deaths. Just dumb. When I see the actors in other movies, i'm like "that's Omar or Bunk Moreland or Stringer Bell!" Amazing actors and writing. Shocked none of them won an Emmy Award. talked to a buddy on Facebook who just watched it and didn't like it. He didn't like McNulty at all, so that was his downfall for not liking the rest of it. He liked parts of it, but he didn't think it was as good as Breaking Bad. two different kind of shows to me. When the last season of the Shield was airing, I binged watched the entire series on Netflix to catch up bc I never saw it before while I watched the last season live. Odd I know but I didn't want to add the last season to my watch list. The Shield was amazing and the best cop show ever IMO and top 3 show overall. I wasn't happy with the ending and his partner going to jail and Vic working a desk, but wow, what show. If not for the Sopranos, it would've won so many Emmy Awards. I miss the Shield and their characters. To me I like a ton of shows, but the 1 show I watch every night via reruns from 7-8 is MASH. Great storytelling, writing and acting performances ! in no particular order, some of my favorites: The Sopranos The Wire The Shield The Americans-hated the finale The Killing Ray Donovan House of Cards Fargo-season 1 especially Mindhunters Rectify Copper Dexter-hated the last 10 min of the finale. LOST-minus the last 3 seasons! First four are fantastic ! Justified Deadwood Sons of Anarchy Luther Gotham Turn: Washington's Spies Hap and Leonard Rome Mad Men-hated the last 2 seasons MASH Seinfeld Cheers NYPD Blue Hannibal Hawaii Five- O-modern day Mini-series-the Hatfields and the McCoys Mini-series-the Men who Built America Mini-series-the People vs OJ Simpson Mini-series-the Night Manager Mini-series-the Night Of
that's covering 38 years Gid. I watch a lot of TV. Most of these are newer shows. They're making better tv shows now and in the last 15 yrs than ever before. more ways to watch them too. I don't even have Hulu or Amazon TV yet ! I like mostly dramas and crime shows. Although I've seen many episodes, no FRIENDS or Big Bang Theory for me.
They made better comedy in the 60’s and 70’s and 80’s. The shows you like you couldn’t pay me to watch.
?? none of them are comedies though besides Mash and Cheers. Why wouldn't you watch them ? Many are award winning dramas. Many are among the greatest tv shows of all-time ? Why wouldn't you give them a try ?
That’s what my family watched was comedy when I was growing up. But the crap that they call comedy now is just garbage.
im not calling it comedy. i don't watch comedies. i watch dramas. nothing on that list besides cheers and mash are comedies.
ok 1 more show. jeez be ticky tack. u said comedy now is garbage. seinfeld came out in 1990's ! it was funny back then. if you're not watching the other shows, i recommend watching them !
agreed. i don't watch any. i watch dramas. the #1 comedy i think is the Big Bang Theory. That stopped being funny 5 yrs ago. It's the same show and jokes over and over again. Even Kaley Cucuo lost her cuteness factor by now.
The last good network comedy was 30 Rock. I get a kick out of The Goldbergs, but it's certainly not going to make my list of all-time great TV comedies, either. I haven't seen some the big dramas, or only a few episodes at best, but with that qualifier Breaking Bad is #1 for me and I would have trouble fathoming anything topping it. Andy Griffith would be my top comedy (and was my #1 overall show before BB came along).
Andy Griffith beats out MASH, Cheers, Seinfeld, 30 Rock, Friends, Big Bang and anything else ? Wow. I didn't know they were that funny.
Big Bang was/is terrible, I've tried to watch it a few times but it's just not funny at all. I would never allow it into a conversation of all-time great comedies. Friends had its moments, it was a pretty good show. 30 Rock might sneak into the back end of the top 10 for me, it was really well done. Seinfeld, MASH and Cheers are right up there in the conversation for the top spot for sure, but for me Andy Griffith was the best. I got no quarrel with anyone who feels otherwise. It wasn't as good after Don Knotts left, but I'm still a sucker for its combination of humor and heart. That's just a show I can watch any time it's on, even if it's an episode I've seen a hundred times before.
I loved it until the last 15 minutes of the final episode Sons of Anarchy-but didnt like its end Like many that have already been mentioned here are a few I didnt see Married with Children (hey they predicted Bruce Jenner being a woman (marcy was mistaken for Bruce Jenner several times during one episode, they also predicted the Cubs Steve Bartman as Al was banned from Wrigley for fan interference which cost the Cubs the game which had they won would have sent them to the world series, there was another one that they predicted but I cant remember what it was). 24
